I think it's fair to say that red dots/ holographics are faster and easier for beginners and people who don't do a lot of practice and dryfire. You should, and that will certainly help level the playing field with LPVOs, but especially from awkward positions you can get awkward aim with a scope. You should try both and know your intended use, but generally a red dot is superior if it's actually only for CQB. Also, reticle illumination / battery life is something to consider. I like Holosun and Olight (Chinesium, i know) because of the ease to keep them running.

Well at least I know I wasn’t completely off the path when going through my decision of which optic to throw on my 11.5 & I’m beyond happy with the 36 yard zero and the simplicity of the reticle and point of aim/point of impact from point blank out to 300. Very very satisfied with my Eotech 512
@hudsonjacob943 жыл бұрын
I've run both on my 11.5 and off a timer I'm almost identical. It helps that I've done a lot of dry fire with the lpvo but it feels better to use it under white light than red dot for me. Decision really came down to with where I live, which is very rural, so if something happened the gun will fill the jobs I need it to close or out to a little range. For reference I run the steiner P4Xi and the dot is perfect in the daylight

I'm in the same boat Aaron. I use a Dot because of NOD compatibility. But I would 100% switch to an LPVO if NOD's weren't apart of the equations. Only real down side I see is the increased weight. Any who, great vid, as always!
@superdacoolman2 жыл бұрын
Weight and reliability. The scopes have had to have been sent in for repair. The T2 will just work and if it doesn’t you have co-witness irons. I have been going back and forth on a Armageddon .556 setup. Red dot and fixed co witness irons win so far. Keep a Leica Monovid Monocular 8x 20mm in a pocket for id’ing targets. Not gonna engage target +3-400 meters. Need a sniper rig for that work anyway so that’s when you bust out the rig out of your snipers bag.
@Goldenwithaleash3 жыл бұрын
I’ve tried a 1-4 and a 1-6 on my home defense 11.5” AR because I like the versatility. I ended up going back to a simple red dot mostly because I can leave the dot on all the time. Longest shot I have in my house is 40’ and the dot is just easier for me.

@mantis_toboggan_md Жыл бұрын
@Jesse Robinson In a CQB type environment, you can essentially just box your target in through your optic, even it it's dead. Also, most CQB type environments aren't really going to warrant the use of the optic too much. In close enough quarters, you should be able to basically just aim down the barrel.

@@FalloutNewVegasMods44 False. I literally highlighted several advantages. Awkward positions, low light, night vision, weight, durability. Go shoot a brutality style match where you have to shoot from awkward positions. Go to a range with a v-tac barricade and compare LPVO and red dot side by side, it's definitely doable with an LPVO, but it's easier and faster with a red dot. LPVO's start becoming advantageous past 100 yards, but red dots are capable of making easy hits out to 400 on known targets. The biggest advantage of an LPVO is target identification at range. I use an LPVO on my 16" competition gun, and a red dot on my 11.5" home defense gun.

Always appreciate your detail and perspective. For what it’s worth 😆(probably not much): When I put an AR together last year. My first since 1976; my end product, excluding brand name, was the exact same configuration. This was based on: Vietnam era Marine infantry experience and Hunting experience. But mostly “OG” physical issues. ie; bad eyes, bad joints, can’t move for shit anymore. So ultimately working with a home defense/coyote gun in a 1-10 ffp, LVPO and a 45 degree offset RDS gave me the same results. Even shooting off hand. For comparison btw I use a 36yd zero on the LVPO and a 25yd zero on RDS. That gives me a 4x6/2x4 hit using a 12 o’clock hold on anything indoors with either optic. Used your videos switching from irons to a RDS pretty much exclusively. Thanks for the helping the “OG’s”!!!!

I’ve tried 5x with a rds on top, lpvo, 3x and 6x magnifiers, almost the whole 9 yards. People should definitely try out their own gear themselves for rock solid ,”this is for me/this ain’t for me.” Far as the topic of your video; red dots get the job done better imo, if it’s strictly cqb, but it doesn’t mean a lpvo is inferior. Once you have to get outside cqb distances; you’re gonna wish you had a lpvo on many occasions. If you have the luxury of having multiple setups and knowing your scenario…pick the right tool for the job… I’ve settled on primary arms’ 2x prism. I really enjoy the pros and cons, compared to other setups, and my realistic expectations . 1x red dot is master of cqb, while lpvo is jack of all trades.

I have a rifle with EOTech and magnifier and also one with a 1-6 lpvo. Both are great but people forget sometimes the LPVO is etched and never moves. so paralax is kind of pointless.....aslong as your close as you said your going to be shooting good enough to hit the center mass shots. Hell most of the time you could probably take all sights off and just eye down barrel at 3,5,7 yards and hit that mark. I have had a home invasion and had to shoot someone, i did not aim hardly at all just a quick pop up and as soon as the dot on EOTech was roughly in the spot the guy was hit. he dropped and the EMT's said he was probably gone within just a few seconds. and honestly it all happened within just 2-3 seconds. I hated having to end a life, but it shows its not got to be a perfect shot. and for my go to i do prefer the EOTech for close up, but i am sure I could be good enough with my Sig Lpvo. it more comes down to me that your somewhat calm and smooth more than the type of sight. In my opinion one that comes from actual fairly extensive CQC experience in combat and as a CQC instructor with SO unit is that we should train for perfection far as accuracy and everything but in actual combat it rarely matters. Because one you can literally get buy doing the finger pointing trick for nobies like we used to do when using ACOGS in Fallujah. What matters more is movement and footwork and mainly aggression in CQC fighting. Also experience and little tricks that operators develop once they have been in many close contacts. Things like slicing the corners, putting rounds threw edges were enemy are hiding hooking openings make all the difference and being able to keep your head. The point is if aiming perfection at close doesn't matter that much what are we left with? What's important then? longer ranges being able to ID target's whether when leaving target house or fighting out of ambush being able to correctly see targets and engage at longer ranges. So then we come to the LPVO and the longer ranges it provides and we still have the red dot sight for those cooler CQC settings. I am fairly confident in my ability and experience but if this doesn't make since to you hhhmm?

Red dots may not be faster but they are more forgiving in terms of eye box. IMO a shooter needs to be at a higher skill level to run an lpvo as fast/consistent as a red dot. Also bc of the more forgiving eye box red dots may potentially be faster when shooting from unconventional shooting positions. However, unconventional shooting does not = CQB so that’s an entirely different conversation. However even that will vary from shooter to shooter. That’s just my take.

LPVOs are used by SOCOM yes but look at *what* they're putting them on and *what else* is on the gun.

I wish more LE agencies would get on board with LPVOs. Seems like a lot are still stuck on the idea of having iron sights.

Excellent demonstration but it Beggs the question, at what distance do these extreme misalignments place the bullets outside the 4x6 box?

Knowing what your optic is capable of: Important Knowing what you are capable of: Critical

I myself prefer to run a lpvo more so than a dot. I didn't really like it at first, but once I started to practice a lot with it, I am really good with it. The other issue about some lpvo's is the reticle and ffp/sfp. Some have horrible reticles that doesn't lend itself to be decent for fast cqb shooting but excels at longer range and vice versa. Some are ffp and the reticle is so small, it gets lost on target at one power, thus the shooter second guesses where the reticle is and hesitates to shoot. This is why I really like the sfp ACSS 1-6 lpvo's. The donut of death and the Chevron draws my eye in and is quick and easy to place on target. A lpvo I had before was some other brand and it was ffp. The reticle on one power was okay, but very fine and the illumination was easily washed out so it was of no help. I use to think lpvo's sucked for cqb shooting because of my experience with that particular optic. Once I tried the PA with the ACSS and in sfp, way better results and better experience, thus my confidence grew and my accuracy and speed increased as I pushed myself.

Great video. I like the point that a LVPO needs to be pushed to a higher standard.

Wake up babe. New Sage vid just dropped! Also, I ordered a Blue Label Glock 45 MOS and somehow received an MOS5. I can confirm that it’s direct milled for the RMR.
@dhoits22993 жыл бұрын
@Jesse Robinson I think that’s the MOS3. My box says MOS5, and the pistol that came in said box direct mounts my RMR.

I love all my optics... My Razor has a super generous eye box and daylight bright dot but it is a hell of a lot heavier than my Aimpoint lol.

I've ran red dots for years but after seeing your content and wanting to expand my capabilities I'm trying an LPVO

Hello, Sage Dynamics. If you are to choose optic for an urban environment 0-200m engagement range, with potential 300m engagement, will you go with a LPVO with offset red dot, or will you go with a red dot and magnifier?

My greatest fear were nickels how dare you.

The nickel lies to you. It tells you it’s a quarter. It’s not.

I recently picked up a swamp fox arrowhead 1-10 and have really enjoyed it. I use the ADM mount. For the dollars spent I am very pleased. I really enjoyed this video and always like the content from your channel. It’s reliable data.

Pretty decent & thorough experiment. I think both lvpo & red dots are amazing for cqb. Point shooting is also VERY fast (paintball experience only vs live humans) and effective with some practice.

These people would be mad if they had to use a marker with no sights haha that's how the G's do it

Shooting something with a rifle at room clearing range gives you a LOT of leeway for what is called center mass. "I'll never get attacked by a nickle". Perfect.

Holy editing. That video must have been a real pain to edit. Good data, thanks!

Most close contact with rifle or pistol would be instinctive shooting. If you train you will put the bullet within a plate sized area. More situational awareness than looking through any site. When I shot in IDPA the sights were only used when distance called for it. I have a LPVO, but in a CQB scenario I would not be looking through the scope.
