Here in Washington state there's the Northwest Time Trial Series. One of their categories is without TT bike or anything aero (no aero helmet, no skin suit, no clip-on bars, no disc wheels, no tri spokes, and not even an aero road bike). The category is appropriately named "Merckx".

Spinaci bars! Banning bar extensions in mass start racing has led to riders draping their forearms over the bars which is quite arguably more dangerous. Modern design technology could potentially allow for shifting and braking from this position as a way to advance on the original Cinelli design. Cheers!

Plot twist: The same reason suspension stems are garbage, altering the handlebar geometry, is exactly what the Specialized Future Shock does. And I'm not talking about the really poor designs like the Girvin which twists the bar rotation as it travels on an arc, but even the later Softride stems that were parallel 4 bar designs to maintain tilt were trash. Even though the Specialized moves on a straight telescoping plane, the travel path of the 4 link designs were relatively straight and not as dissimilar as Specialized marketing would have you believe.

It is less straightforward f you read the study around the higher impact that very high intensity interval has over longer time intervals. In order to have increased gains, those 30 seconds need to be at your absolute highest intensity and having coached many of these sessions in the gym I know that most will never be able to hit 30 seconds at their top level, let alone for repeated times with only 15 seconds recovery.
