People love how the shoes turned out. The problem is they won't stay like that. Leather flexes, and paint can't adhere, and will flake off. What you did, was paint over leather. The reason people dye leather and not paint it, is so the color goes *into* the leather, and not on top of it. When you paint over it, you cover the leather texture, the little bumps that make leather, well, leather. I mean, they are your shoes, do what you want. However, you seem to be promoting this as a tutorial; and this is a really bad tutorial. As the shoe naturally wears, scuffs, and scrapes; this paint will wear off and expose the color under it - whereas with actual leather dye it will not. Like, just change your title so people don't find this trying to actually dye their fine leather shoes. This shows a lack of respect to the work that went into making that leather. You can paint anything, leatherwork takes craftsmanship.

This is terrible. So if you scuff your shoe how are you going to fix it? The black will show through and then you are stuck with black scuffs unless you are going to repaint it.
@RatmirMishkin3 жыл бұрын
Hello! Every time you scuff leather it has to be painted again. And no matter what color your leather is. It becomes darker or lighter. And you need to bring the color back😁 so you paint(dye) it. The difference is only in what you are going to use.

Complete waste of time, and very misleading title, and the thumbnail is even worse (Doing impossible??? Really?) You didn’t dye the shoes, you painted them leaving it no different than a pair of plastic tennis shoes. I can only imagine how the paint will handle creasing. Poor leather. Will breathe no more. Fact: There is no way of dyeing brown a pair of leather black shoes. Is simply not possible, regardless of what the title and thumbnail says.

I've been using acetone to try to strip the walnut color off two pairs of shoes. I like the color of the leather when I strip off much of the walnut dye. But then I hydrate the leather with Saphir reconditioner, and then put on a neutral colored shoe cream, and those two things together darken the leather to almost what it was before I stripped off the dye. Very frustrating.

Look, beauty is in the eye of the beholder so whether someone likes them or not is irrelevant. You’ve got to admire coming up with the idea and the skill involved in doing it. It’s clever, even if it isn’t someone’s cup-of-tea. To condemn it outright is just plain bad manners.
