I left Active Duty last May 2022, Joined the Marine reserves, and am now going to OCS-Reserves in May (2023). It's all about knowing your options. So many young Marines do not research their resources or even ask. The SMCR Reserves is a seriously good option if you want to live the civilian life but still be a Marine. I seriously can't explain it enough.

@@User-rj2dk They have a verity of MOS’s there. I was an 0651, which has since been redesignated with the title change to Cyber. I would definitely talk with the Career Retention Specialists and your MOS monitor to see what options you have. Not only do you have Marine only units but you have joint unit options as well as units in Europe and not just Germany.

Concur! Talk to your monitor, Marines. As a young Marine, I had leaders that didn't like me reaching out to them...but let them know and then reach out. If you just take what the Corps gives you every three to four years, don't frown when served the scraps. Watch those MarAdmins for programs you might be interested in. Scared of the HSST? Volunteer early and try to control your path. Good points, brother...tons of opportunities out there to explore. Another good one. Cheers!

I disagree, I was a Cpl and contacted my monitor and got best duty stations the rest of my career (20 years). Japan, Germany, Spain, England, Bahrain. Never leave your future up to your leadership. Close mouths don’t get fed. Your leadership has 100’s or maybe more in their unit, it’s not their priority or on their radar to look out for each Marine’s career but you!

Im joining the marines just waiting to get cleared. 27 about to be 28. trying to better myself by joining and improve my life. wonder if you could explain the chances of going to war. Hey Andrew....not exactly sure what stage of joining the Marines you're at in your life. All I can say is, this world is very unpredictable, and bad things happen every day. Sometimes when they're bad enough and threaten America's best interests...they send us Marines. If you're on the fence about being willing to be put in that situation, it's totally understandable. Be honest with yourself, because people WILL be depending on you so that they can make it back home to their wife, son, daughter, etc. It's not just about you. There are many other avenues you can take career wise to improve your life. Glad you're at least aware of how you view things and I pray you figure out the best course of action. God bless!

I'm thinking about re-enlisting, But how does the tier (1,2,3,4) system work? i have 2 years in just received Marine of the quarter, i have been on meritorious promotions boards, high 1st class CFT and PFT, PME complete !00% MCMAP 96% educational. Marksman on the range (Bad Day). I was told i was a tier 4 Marine ? no page 11's no NJP's. Confused

@@thomasheck1that’s not true. If you are a first term the only person who can tell you your tier is the career planner. There is a whole worksheet that actually calculates it. If your on a second term more than that your tier comes from your CO
