I am a believer in signs to show of a passed loved ones presence. The stunning sunset was Francesca's gift to you. After my dad passed away, mom and I saw the most vibrant rainbow we had ever seen and figured that it was his gift to us. Some people will think that this is strange. The seed was like an ethereal being floating through the duck hatch and then exploring your home. Thank you for sharing the beautiful villages you visit and the nature that surrounds you.

When my beautiful sister Sandy passed away very young, I saw the brightest of stars in the night sky. I kept going out into the garden to catch a glimpse of her. That was 25 years ago, and I still see her in the night sky. I miss her dearly. Your friend will be in your heart for ever and ever. My deepest condolences to you. ❤️

The sky always answers. When my sister lost her dog, three days later I lost my beautiful old spaniel too. I was so used to the routine of walking my old boy every morning that two days later I had to just go and walk at the same time that we used to. Just around the corner from my house, I looked up. In the sky, clear as you like, the clouds had formed into the heads of our two dogs, ears flying, mouths open, playing. I didn’t have my phone with me to capture it. But I can recall it to mind whenever I think of it, because it was so clear. It made me cry but I was so happy to see it - the sky was showing me that they were together again and watching over me. 💙

In a world that's losing it's collective mind, your videos are such a blessing. All the things you show us, in nature, the quaint villages, things you spot on your walks... all of it is special. Whether you realize it or not Vanessa, you are a gift to all of us. The birds, the thistle seed, everything you saw around you... God is speaking to you, and letting you know... you have a purpose, and that's to show us the wonder and beauty of God's works, in the special way that only you can. That's priceless really, when you think about it. The beautiful sunset you featured at the beginning of this video was God's way of letting you know he has your friend, and all is well. Carry on.

I’ll even have a feather. It’s just been a year and I need those signs. Believe in them as they will help you because each day they are gone is one day. We are closer to being with them again.❤

I am so, so sorry to hear that your daughter passed away. There must surely be no greater pain than losing your child. Francesca lost her son when he was just a toddler and she set up a garden called Butterfly Meadow for other bereaved parents to visit in order to find some comfort in nature. She has helped so many to try and come to terms with their grief. The way that your daughter is still there for you in music, dragonflies, butterflies and feathers is truly beautiful.Thank you so much for such a kind comment. Take care 🌻🦋

@@themindfulnarrowboat Cemetery reflections for those who deserve to be remembered... (Greenwich Catholic Newsletter) British funerary monuments have always fascinated me. They tell us in part, both of the progress and failure of Christianity in the UK. By the early Victorian period, burials in London and all the major cities had become a significant health hazard and a public scandal. The historic church yards could no longer cope with the demands brought by the industrial revolution. Seven Magnificent Cemeteries were established on what was then the outskirts of London. First came Kensal Green (above) in 1833 then shortly; West Norwood, Highgate, Abney Park, Brompton, Nunhead & Tower Hamlets. They are still lovely contemplative places to visit. My own family has burials at Nunhead (on Dad’s side) & Highgate (on Mum’s side). I remember my Father’s Mother had a photograph above the fireplace, of a monument. It was an image of her first husband’s grave. Charles Ryan had a pub along the Old Kent Road called “The Magnet”. Long since gone, he died prematurely for uncertain reasons related to the “Great War”. It showed a grand stone column with a square capital on a pedestal beside a main thoroughfare. Sometime around 1992 my father and I went to find it. The image seemed so imposing it would surely be easy to find, but no sign of it. Only by applying to the office were we later able to discover the location. The column had disappeared but the kerbstones & inscription were still visible. It was concealed under decades of bramble & soil deposits. With garden tools we cleared the site, gradually revealing that all the fallen parts remained, embedded in the soil. That “great column" was little more than 5’ tall. Between us we were just about able to re-erect it complete with the capital. We scrubbed it down & cleaned it up and proudly stood to say a prayer for Charles & first wife Caroline: “God’s Finger touched her and she slept”. Years later I returned to investigate our handiwork… the entire thing had been removed. Perhaps it was deemed unsafe. At Kensal Green as a student I used to meander marvelling at the macabre mausoleums, for the once rich & famous but now long forgotten. IK Brunel is buried here. Having died a pauper, he lies under a simple stone in the grave of his father. Can you believe there is still a dividing wall between Catholic & Protestant burials? The division is broken down now but the contrast of images either side seems to betray some uncertainty across the way: Mary, Saints, Sacred Hearts, Crucifixes, Angels, Celtic Crosses abound on one side whereas, Broken Columns (a life cut short) Doused Flaming Torches (life extinguished) Draped Urns (Greek Antiquity) Egyptology (? - popular at the time) hopeless weeping figurines draped over the Rocks of Ages, very occasional plain crosses, strange fat Cherubs, Shaking Hands (farewell or reunions?) & Masonic symbols. Soon the outer parts of London had their own municipal cemeteries: Along Enfield Highway this poignant image cannot be avoided. It says more about whoever erected it than it does about the deceased. Somebody must have loved this woman very much… Olive Nora ZALA (a Slavic name) died on the day she gave birth aged 44 in Oct 1930; her Son Anthony followed 3 days later. There is no further inscription. 8’ tall, she has stood here serenely with her baby for 94 years. But who meanwhile will remember the mother’s, babies & children who are dying right now in Gaza 100 years from today? Maybe that’s Olive’s job or so she seems to say! “Rest Eternal Grant unto her O Lord…” Bazalgette

The smallest thing can give us comfort when we most need it. When my grandmother died, one of my aunts was understandably very upset. She was talking to us about a butterfly broach that my grandmother used to wear, and as she was doing so, a live butterfly flew along and landed on her coat. It only stayed a few seconds before continuing on, but the sense of comfort and consolation it gave my aunt was palpable. Take care. xox

Watching this lovely video brings back memories of my mother. She died when I was in my 20's - I am now in my 60's, but still think about her. Her dream was to take a canal boat holiday, as she loved watching the narrowboats when she was evacuated during the war, and was near Leamington Spa. Unfortunately she could never quite afford it - but I still think about narrowboats, and want to have a holiday on one some day! Try not to be too sad for the loss of your friend - those that have moved on would want us to be happy for the time we spent together, and for the love and laughter we shared with each other! But I do know that we will shed the occasional unseen tear for them when we are alone... 😢

This video brought tears to my eyes. Your friend's love of sunsets reminds me so much of a friend of mine. We went to High School together, but seldom spoke. She already had a boyfriend, and I was a loner. We reconnected on our 40 High School reunion. She is still married to her High School boyfriend, and I am still married to the woman that made the mistake of dating me twice. I now live 500 miles away from my friend, and she regularly sends me sunset photos from the walks she takes on her farm and trips she takes with her husband. Seeing the films of the sunset on your way back to the boat, and knowing why you were away from the boat, affected my tear ducts more than it should have for a 63 year old man. While we have never met, I hope that you can find some comfort in those that follow your programs. You have come close enough via your mindful program that, in an unusual way, you are closer than just a picture on the TV screen. In a small way, I could feel that you were hurting; and that brought up some emotions in me. I know that you will never completely get over the loss of your friends. But I hope that you realize that they may still be with you, only in a dimension that you cannot see. True love and friendship are not easily defeated by death.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. Losing a close friend is devastating but you're absolutely right, it changes your perspective and every day is blessing. I never took my life for granted either but when my friend died suddenly almost 2 years ago, it shifted everything. I reevaluated everything, where I lived, how I worked, relationships and redesigned them all. You always miss them but they leave us gifts.

The sunset and the seed. So beautiful and the way the seed suspended there. At first I thought the fan was on bumping it but when I noticed that it wasn’t it brought a tear to my eye. I think she’s happy that you are back in your element ❤️ I remember when I lost my sister, I noticed at her funeral that a pigeon sat perfectly still on a gravestone a couple rows behind her resting place and it stayed there right until they started lowering the casket into the ground. I knew then that she wanted to see us all together at that moment. May you continue to find the comforts and little signs in your journey through this difficult time ❤️

Hello Mindful Narrowboater: I thought the long sequence showing the thistle seed was mesmerising; truly magical. People think that miracles don't exist but in truth we are surrounded by them; the thistle seed, the butterfly emerging from the chrysalis, the tadpole changing into a frog before our eyes. There are none so blind as they who cannot see; beautiful close-up photography. Pete Glyde.

Vanessa, this was the most touching video in memory of your wonderful friend. I am sure things do not happen by accident. The amazing sunset, and the very unusual single dandelion seed hovering for a long time, are messages. Your friend may no longer be in our dimension, but she is definately still with you and around you. Keep all your wonderful memories of her close to you. Special friends stay with us, I'm sure, albeit in many different ways. Kindest thoughts to you Vanessa, and may sweet memories of your special friend stay in your heart forever.❤.x

So sorry for your loss. We adults know this is a part of life. We don't like it. But I believe that new life emerges - just as a seed must die for a new plant to sprout. We are only capable of mourning and moving on - we have no other choice. Death reminds us to live on as our time is coming too. Good choice to get back to the familiarity and serenity of the boat. Bless you as you move forward with your other best friend - Zephyr.

I love the synchronicities of life. Today I saw the largest flock of Swifts I'd ever seen, flying all around a tree and my head, feeding up for their flight back to Africa. I love'em they are troopers with their journey they take. I also loved seeing the magical seed and whatever that intuitively means to you is true. I'm loving your content. xxx
