Sometimes the cynic in me wonders why manufacturers resist sometimes giving me equipment to test when they know how I analytically test them and put them up against others, if their marketing is sometimes better than the product 🤔🤷🤷👍🏻

It must be frustrating trying to get samples from some brands. Glad I saw this video as I am more impressed with the 245 than I was before and I do love that it is shinnier than the P790. I know it is not chrome like previous models but still looks way better than the P790 which is much duller.

Great video. Closer between the two than I’d expected. I’m getting used to my new 245s. My golf coach has been impressed to the distance, accuracy and especially efficiency numbers for the 245. Working hard on my swing and am now releasing the ball at impact way better than ever in my life which has improved strike and dispersion. All that means it that I can enjoy my new clubs more. Having the right equipment and an improving swing which gives pleasure from playing this game. My scores are coming down each week. Jay, on a separate note can I thank you for another really honest and thorough review. Big thanks for that! It’s so good to hear the opinions of a pro who is not biased by sales margins or other bias. copper plating is usually due to chrome plating requirements (anything that is chrome plated is typically plated over copper or a copper/nickel....car bumpers, hub caps, chrome trinkets etc). Most likely the copper plating has nothing to do with the feel of the club, the plating is mere thousandths of an inch thick (0.005", or 0.12 mm). It's used for 'seeding' so that the other metals (nickel/chrome) will 'stick' to the surface, it's just part of the manufacturing requirements for plating with chrome.

You're results may vary.😜 My swing speed is significantly lower than yours. 72 years old. 12 handicap. I went for a fitting and hit 5 different iron heads. Tested with a 6 iron, swing speed average 72 mph. My results showed that the difference between the P790 v Pro 245's wasn't as tight as yours. With centre hits the two clubs were close to equal. When it came to off centre hits the P790's fell off a cliff. So, with my fitting I ended up with the P245's with LA golf A series 65 2 (A) flex shafts. For the record I also tried Ping, Titleist, and Srixon heads.

Nice video Jay. So no real clear winner then. Love or hate TM, one thing that really isn’t debatable ,is that the P790 since its inception, has been the leader and one to beat in players distance irons. I’m no TM fan boy, I’m currently trying to decide between the latest APEX CB and Mizuno 243.
@AskGolfNut8 ай бұрын
With most to all clubs now within their class it's difficult to find a distinct winner over any other, they are all that good now. Bigger winner here though is the Pro 245 over the 225 as the P790 being honest outshone the 225, now the 245 actually marginally beats it 👍🏻

Great vid fancy trying a mizuno as I’m getting on now the 245 may be an option. Can they also be weakened ?
@AskGolfNut8 ай бұрын
Absolutely, they can be weakened up to 3 degrees I believe, any Forged head can bend 3 degrees in either lie or loft, so 2 degrees in one direction a 1 in the other etc, so if you wanted to weaken to say 243 lofts at 32 degrees fro 7 iron then you'll have 1 degree in lie adjustment also to hand 👍🏻
@michaelocean47887 ай бұрын
I play blades as well. But hitting the same yardage with a 7 iron in a player distance iron vs a 5 iron with my blades has me intrigued. How's the distance control on a player distance iron? Can you hit an exact yardage? And can you tell how far the ball is going to go just from the feel off the face? These are things why I love blades.
@AskGolfNut7 ай бұрын
Dispersion patterns with the Players Distance 7 iron is similar to my 6 iron Blade. The shorter shaft gives advantage, but it's not the same dispersion as my Bladed 7 iron. Loft is always the biggest factor in dispersion. Feel wise it's good but not the same as the blade, the feedback given from the Blade is 10/10 but also on Winter days that same 10/10 can give people sore fingers on a poor strike 😊 Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍🏻
@th62528 ай бұрын
Great review, but maybe you could have gone more into the sole designs as I think that’s the main thing that sets these 2 clubs apart as they are so close (performance wise) in every other aspect. The 790’s tend to have a wider sole with more bounce while the 245’s(and the majority of Mizuno irons in general) tend to have a thinner sole and less bounce. So I’m guessing turf interaction should be the biggest determining factor for those choosing between these two(aesthetics not withstanding).
@AskGolfNut8 ай бұрын
Interesting point, describe in detail for me if you can what you mean by turf interaction 👍🏻👍🏻
@th62528 ай бұрын
@@AskGolfNut basically just one’s attack angle…like how some people tend to be ditch diggers(like myself) and others barely nip the grass. Like in wedges how there are different grinds (all stuff you already know as a pro lol), guess I didn’t do the greatest job of trying to bring my point across initially.
@AskGolfNut8 ай бұрын
@th6252 you did fine, it's just people have different understandings of turf interaction. True turf interaction happens after impaft so how a club interacts with the turf is done after the shot in question. Even when a player gets their low point wrong and hits behind the ball, with common shaft lean (delofting) into the ball the amount of bounce that is actually exposed to the turf is negligible at best and sometimes actually negative. So on this front also the bounce has little to no effect on any turf interaction. Dynamic lie has a much much greater effect on turf interaction and shot direction / curvature.... Hardly anything is ever really referenced about this parameter which is much more responsible for poor 'turf interaction' 👍🏻👍🏻

@AskGolfNut7 ай бұрын
Being honest, a shaft can help launch and spin the ball a bit better but it's outside of the window that you need. To be able to get the flight you need to maximise carry and functional flight, you'd have to look at changing your action into impact 👍🏻

@AskGolfNut6 ай бұрын
Because its a bit of fun, because its KZbin so why not and mainly because in golf you won't have any control over where the Greens Staff places the Pin that day. Normally I would be aligning myself to be short left of the Pin in to more of the heart of the Green..... But its KZbin so no one wants to chicken out 🙂👍

@ebenmarsh98807 ай бұрын
Apples to Apples. Why didn't you run the TM 770's against the 245's I think that would have made more sense?
@AskGolfNut7 ай бұрын
770's are considerable smaller in blade length and dimensions than the 245s. TM offer the P770s which not many other manufacturers offer their standard Players Distance iron in a smaller package. The 243 size wise is similar to the P770s but isn't a hollow bodied head. So that only leaves the P790 vs 245. P770s are also weaker lofted into the Players Cavity sector of lofts where the P790s are basically equally lofted 👍🏻

@AskGolfNut8 ай бұрын
TM has an extra club within the players side extra to Mizuno so the P770 sits kind of in between the 245 and 243. The P790s head length is only 0.2mm different to that of the P790 and near on all other dimensions are very close, the P770 is more down the Pro 243 side of sizings but with the technology of the P790 👍🏻

P770s are the same size dimensions wise as 243. Has the same tech as the P790 but smaller head. The 245 and P790 are built under a similar aesthetic design, plus the P770 are much closer in loft to that to the 243. Marginally different but you know me and shaft requirements 🙂 it personally makes no difference to delivery for me, apart from a touch of lie angle deflection due to CG. But nothing more than a degree or so, so well within the tweaky of the shaft adapters. In a custom fitting absolutely you'd get these things ground down to as close to zero as possible as most amateurs variance is quite large so it needs to be either side of zero to reduce to dispersion and ground interaction potential 👍
@sloswingspeed95358 ай бұрын
Thx.. I see significant dispersion at 1* lie change. Mizuno US is coming very close to hitting their loft/lie lasered on the toe. I measure all. I’m saying for reporting as much excellent swing data as you do, why not go 1 step further and hit the same shaft where possible, on every test head. Obviously not doable when you hit clubs from a ferruled early release set. I enjoy your technical comparisons. Thx much
