Richard Strauss was there. There was a Strauss festival in London that month and Strauss was flown over. In a BBC radio documentary by John Amis maybe 20 years ago, he described the circumstances and chunks were broadcast. IIRC Beecham and Welitsch did not get on. In her prime here, Welitsch is stunning.

great performance but what happened here between 49:04-49:13? Too hard for Schlüter? By the way your channel is a treasure. thanks for uploading these "clandestine" gems.

Schulter is really good in the 44 Hamburg broadcast. Beecham also recorded the second half of the opera commercially. I recall Klytemnestras screams scaring the pants off everyone

Ah, so is this NOT a studio recording? I found some reference to recording sessions in the Abbey road studios, so I assumed this was an HMV studio recording.

@@hcleskov-fischer6033 this a copy of the broadcast from BBC studios. It was broadcast complete. Later the second half from Orestes entrance was recorded in the studio and issued on 78s

Beecham conducted two concert performances of Elektra before an invited orchestra at Mlad Vale Studio 1 on October 24 and 26, 1947. This is the broadcast of the first. On October 27 and 29 the second half the opera was recorded at Abbey Rd studios since RCA could not justify recording the entire work
