Re-Potting a Nepenthes: WITHOUT KILLING IT!

In today's video, we look into 'SAVING AND REPOTTING A DYING NEPENTHES'. My Nepenthes burkei needed repotting due being in the direct sun behind glass for too long and drying out to the point of dying. I take you through some care tips for Nepenthes, we discuss repotting and I show you the media I use, then how to repot a Nepenthes without damaging the pitchers or the delicate roots.

I know it's been long time since videoing, but 1 tip when repotting is to wrap the mix around the roots loosely then into pot adding as you go. Also if you look up Southwest Carnivores usa KZbin, they have done video showing 50 /50 long fibre sphagnum moss and perlite for optimum growth. I use same as them as to long washing through coconut husks etc ! Life's to short. Anyway great video as always. Peter uk

That’s for the tips Peter. Nepenthes are very accommodating when it comes to putting media, more so than many other carnivorous plants. I would never give someone the ‘optimum’ mix as really think that rather depends on the plant and on the growing situation. But it’s nice to experiment and find out what what works best for you personally. 😁 And I really wish I had more nepenthes. Something with a veitchii in it is the goal right now.

Had - 12 for a few weeks and now 2 weeks later we got 15c...th greenhouse got to 25c. What a pain this season have been so far..

Yeah that’s true. I’ve put even more shading up now as the cool side is getting warmer than the warm side! 🤣 I’m sure winter isn’t done with us yet thought.

nice vid, you can soak the coconut fiber, husk, chips on rain water for at least 15mins to an hour before you wash it for lower ppm.

Yeah I know. I’ve already washed it by soaking for days at a time! Result = still a ppm of 147! I’m sure the nepenthes won’t mind that too much. I’ll keep flushing them.

First when I got my nepenthes Gaya I was used two watering my fly traps and Sundew‘s which needs lots of water and I ended up overwatering my nepenthes gaya I got super stressed and angry at myself the leaves turneded Brown I have cut them off and now the plant is showing new growth .

If you put Neps in a pot that's in a tray of water like you would do for sundews and VFTs then yes you could rot their roots. They definitely don't want to dry out though - that's why many people (me included) hang them up. That way it's easier to make sure they drain through. But you'll still need to keep them moist. Glad yours are coming back again!

You can dry the mix you have leftover and store in a bag or bucket

This is not really a care questions, but what's your favourite nepenthes? I'm curious! For me it's probably the Burkeii, but the Rebecca Soper holds a special place in my heart as it's my first one :) nice video as always!

I think my favourites are the ones I don't have! Anything with veitchii in them - lowii of course, and some of the other species like bicalcarata. I don't know if my wallet will ever stretch to landing any of these!

Nepenthes are very tolerant of various media providing its loose and airy.
