Excellent talk. I appreciate the reference to our shared responsibility for making art part of our daily experience, like eating, drinking, and breathing, and bringing it into the public sphere by way of murals.

This was great. I am just so in this headspace right now. I am looking at the possibility of being a curatorial assistant at a local museum. I identify as an artist and I feel like we are all artists just as much as curators for sure. The crossover is illuminating. I have been thinking about what it would be like for my local museum to have an artist such as myself working as a part of the curatorial team. I am passionate about these ideas of bringing everyone into a full enactment and employment of their own innate abilities. I think conversation, dialogue and social engagement are crucial to this process. I think in this video the deed of giving someone something was an important aspect. Also the illumination that arises from reminding people that they are already curators. I do that in the context of artists as well. Just as important as the physical gift was the gift of the idea for sure! Ideas are so precious. As a fellow TEDx speaker I really feel the value in these experiences where we are primed for the sharing of ideas. I think what is becoming more and more relevent along with that is the idea of exchange over exhbition which is something that I get form this talk as well. It is less about one person speaking and more about what can we all do. Going in that direction is really exciting. Thanks for sharing! Best

Loved this talk. I've always been drawn to collecting. Items that tell a story. Sibella Court has a book called "Bowerbird" which is a wonderful resource that resonates what Erik alludes too. This year I aim to visit the smaller museums in our city and to write about those things that pique my curiosity and interest. Thanks for a wonderful presentation.

The Nelson-Atkins is actually in Kansas City, Missouri and not Kansas. There is a Kansas City, Kansas though! It can get confusing sometimes.

this is assuming peple do take care of art over time when that's not true. is like kids drawing, is cute until you have too many and then you discard it. The true change needs to happen in the first educational years of high school, schools need to be able to take more trips to galleries, not only science museums or national museums. Public spaces are so difficult to keep in public spaces the insurance is going to be much higher than a museum or gallery space. there are way to many logistics to considerate. Also having art everywhere will just make artists being paid less than what they can need to create art. Is such a tricky dilemma. idk whatever.
