I got an MPC of a 71 GTO out of my collection of unbuilt kits, it was garbage, very old kit, the wheels, engine possibly are salvageable but all I built from it was the drag racing Christmas tree. So I got out the Revell 69 Camaro 427 Baldwin Motion and got it half way built in only two 4 he sessions, goin into paint now. You did an outstanding job friend, building makes us better, love to do a General Lee myself.

I have a "Dukes" version of this kit that I mildly custom built. It was definitely a challenge of my skills. But it can be built into a shelf worthy looker. Yours turned out amazing. Thanks for sharing your hobby with us.

No thumbs up or down. To much talking and not showing how you did it which is what I wanted. Other than that. I love how you do your craft. It shows your skills are super awesome. I'm on same exact kit as I'm posting this. Not as skilled as you. But yes compared to other kits, it's very, make it work as best as you can. Lol. Other than that, you have a lifetime subscriber for your channel. Thanks

The second gen Charger was a stunner as the sales numbers showed at the time. I just completed the Revell 68 version and for fun fabricated the complete exhaust to factory super stock configuration, dumps, crossover and all. I feel kits are a starting point. A blank canvas, if you will. The fun is in adding our own touches, because for most of us that makes the result truly our own. The only frustrations I had were the usual mold issues and some minor distortion...what is with hood fitment on these Chargers?!

I don't know. The hood, grill, rear bumper and many other things didn't fit on it without major modifications.

Good comment, build it the way you want, not how you think others would do it. Every kit has flaws/challenges, that's what makes this hobby the fun it is...overcome them, fix them, modify them your way with your solutions. Great job on this one!

Yes! I just got finished with the AMT/ERTL version of the '69 Genral Lee Charger and it was REDICULOUS!!! A FLASHTASTIC NIGHTMARE! I built it for a friend.... But for some crazy reason I got an MPC for myself to do as a stock car. I think it'll assemble better without the interior or the glass. Your build looks awesome to me.

Ah...the kit bashers dream and I don't mean bashing it against a wall but as you said, long term build to do whatever to turn it into decent looking model. I think you succeeded. It's always good to have a challenge and not let the kit beat you into giving up.

Just came across your video of this build last night. I've been building models of all subjects over the past 47 years and have always felt the same about MPC. I'm very familiar with their car kits and I feel your pain, but you've done an outstanding job.The timing is ironic because I was in the midst of writing my thoughts on building the MPC/ Round 2 Space 1999 Eagle 2 for my modelling page, the first kit with the MPC badge I've ever tackled that fit well. That said, I echo the view that kits like the Charger are what truly test our skill. I've always had great fondness for Johan's kits, mainly because they've tackled subjects that no other manufacturer has (I'm currently building their Javelin AMX pro-stock). They're not much more sophisticated than MPC's mouldings but I've always gained great satisfaction from turning something rough into what I feel is a beautiful finished product. Just subscribed to your channel because this to me is what modelling is all about.

That kit was mastered in the early 1970's using hand-made techniques, not modern day digital one. There's no way it will compare to a modern kit for fit and detail. It will have fit issues and require much higher skill level to complete. But generations a of builders assembled that kit and learned how to build when things are less than ideal. SO it was tough, but I bet you will use some the things you learned in the future.

To answer your "question" Yes, this is the General Lee kit, it's also the original 69 Charger MPC Annual kit that was released in late 1968/Early 1969. So it's a 50some year old mold. I am curious how you got the nose on, my kit has a good 1/4 inch gap if you put the nose over to one side. It's a large enough gap that this kit is now my Auto Paint Mule.

Hats off to you for staying with it and not trashing it. Everytime I go back and build an old kit from MPC I day to myself why are you doing this? But I like the theme of it so I stay with it. The original Dukes Charger had the wrong rear window. It was the Charger 500 roof. I think it turned out fine. Question When you mixed the clear with the reducer what mix rate did you use? 50/50? Or something else

These older kits can be a pain in terms of parts fit etc, but the subjects tend to be compelling and with tremendous effort, swearing or tossing them at the wall then putting them down for a while, in the end they're worth the effort. Congrats for your patience here, I like what I'm seeing here. BTW, I had some issues with the Revell 69 Charger, in that the hood won't close with the carburetor and air cleaner on. Any ideas how to resolve that?

Other than the hood's fit, I think this looks pretty good. I understand that you had to do some adjustments on bumpers and grille, maybe if you put a couple little "bumpers" under the hood to raise the leading edge, it would cover the hood fit issue. Ride height complaints on these replica Chargers I always take with a grain of salt .... back in the day most people raised the rear suspension and it gave the front a lowered appearance. Looking at a stock Charger 1:1 today, I think they all look high in front.

Enjoyed this and part one . I think it came out pretty good apart from the goofy stance . If l was to build this one I'd drop the front end down paint the interior grey primer and the body , wheels and bumpers satin black . This kit is %&$#! It happened to be the very first kit I ever attempted to put together. Bad idea. It had me thinking I was just bad at putting model cars together, until I searched this kit on YT (wishing I'd done that first). Nightmare, it turned me away from ever wanting to do any other model cars. lol Anyways, commenting just to tell you, I saw one guy's video of him building this, he did a trick to get the front wheels to be low like they should. He cut the back piece so they would fit inside more (so the body fit over them). Wishing I'd knew that when building mine. Btw, I carved and carved on my back bumper and it still never fit; and had a time with the black grills (?); carved and carved on them as well. Also, mistakely, I done a video of the one I did (just putting the body on the chasis), thinking it would just go right on. Nah. It was awful! It would not go on nice and smooth. Never again. lol But it keeps me thinking, just maybe I could do it better if I would it again. Again, if anyone is interested in getting this kit to build a General Lee, then stay away! Get their snap kit instead, it is much much better! Their coke-cola snap '69 Charger is nice also with very nice decals! Thank you for making this video!

The car does look bad (that front fender, ugh) but that color scheme with the silver exterior and tan interior looks great. It's an elegant tasteful look. Not looking forward to working on that General Lee I've got now.

The fast setting solution that you use- can it be used on any glue, or is it limited to a certain kind?, and can you give me any tips on sparkplug wires, BTW it looks good- I have a 10' rule,- you have to stand behind the line when you come into my model central

It only works on super glue. I like the 10' rule!! Lol

the good the bad the ugly and then this one, you did a great job on it anyway, any idea of how well the Revell kit is.

I have had my experience with MPC kits over the years, so I feel your pain. Check out the 67 GTO on my channel DMG Scale Models. That was an MPC kit (from hell)

You have done a spectacular job, from what I see. I have this model, I think by Revell and I received it as started, by some one doing the painting of parts (which I didn't know). I was appalled by the sloppy black paint job and my quest a few weeks now was to strip that black paint off everything. Three days in 99% alcohol just sorta softened the paint, not great. I finally used Graffiti Off and that wasn't all pleasant but paint (not plastic) did melt so that a rag could rub paint off. I like your Silver color, I thought of painting silver, but I wanted a "Jolly-Rancher" orange, like the candy, that of a dark pearl turquoise blue. I'll see how it goes. I however first piece together all parts before I glue. I turned my attention to and am currently building an F-14A Tom Cat, because I was fed up with that charger paint fiasco. Funny thing, I had purchased another 69 Charger by Revell, the special edition R/T 2 in 1 kit. I have a nice Pearl plum purple for it. Guess I'll learn from any difficulties involved in this 69 charger. Cheers..

I had a similar stance issue with the the amt 67 Chevy Impala years ago. I had to carve a LOT off the firewall to get it to set wgare it should. I took it a step further and lowered the car.

FYI, the engine bay and firewall on Mopars is body color and the tail light panel would be satin black. Otherwise, nice job.

my 1st 2 mpc kits were a dukes of hazzard car and a 69 daytona and after seeing how they were molded and looked I knew I was never gonna buy another mpc kit ever again (and I have not) imo they are poorly molded with next to no quality at all ,yes with time, patience and skill you can turn em around but they are not worth it at all.with that being said you did do a good build here two thumbs up.
