That is also the reason why Ram received a blank letter. It was Rem who wrote that letter however I think it was already delivered before Rem was eaten but Ram can't receive words from a person who doesn't exist. The letter turned into blank instead.

By the way, the reason behind why Subaru was going to tell Emilia regarding Rem's confession had something incredibly important to do with what happened in the light novels and for some reason the anime literally skips over that. Basically after the white whale Fight, Rem makes subaru confess his feelings for her, Turns out human beings are complicated creatures and feelings of affection aren't always so simple, He was in love with both Emilia and Rem, (hints of his true feelings were given right after the fight with the white whale in the anime when he responded to Crusch about how Emilia and Rem are number 1 and 2 in his heart), so after learning of his feelings, Rem suggested to get involved into polygamy and said she'll be fine being his second wife. So Subaru wanted to ask emilia's feelings regarding that matter, whether she would consent to that or not.
