I don't know why but seeing someone just kicking someone else repeatedly is just funny to me. Like they don't need to do anything else, kicking is sufficient because the other person is so weak right now.

While I really liked this show the first time I watched it, it wasn't until I re-watched it that I fell in love with it. Besides having a better understanding of the plot, having a better understanding of who these characters are and their motivations makes the show an entirely new experience during a re-watch. While re-watching you really get the sense that these are fully-formed characters from the moment they're introduced, and that the author had a clear vision of the story he wanted to tell.

Like Maylie was set up way back in the Ulgarm arc! She's the one who showed the "puppy" to Subaru, and then at the end of the arc there's a brief blink-and-you'll-miss-it line between Ram and Roswaal about one of the kids going missing. I like their guesses about Roswaal's motivations, but he very clearly expressed back in season one that he wanted to "kill the dragon", so that's clearly part of his plans. Also I like how their discussion relates heavily to the Greed if alternate universe story.

Yeah, with more watches i've gone to appreciate things more and more. The only thing I don't like is how stupid Subaru was in the first few episodes of S1(not figuring out he was resetting) and then the Royal Selection freakout, ugh. But yeah, Roswall is AMAZING, Sub and Dub.

It's a great way to subvert expectations, because last episode it seemed like he was determined to face hell and learn everything he needed to break out of this loop. Once Subaru starts viewing the loop (and his own life) as expendable, absolutely everything goes to shit. It's a good wake up call for the audience and Subaru that's it's the wrong way to go about this (something the next two episodes hammer home).

But I don’t think having your ass eaten through is much worse than having anywhere else eaten through. But even aside from that: - Realizing the true challenge of saving Beatrice, as well as her real goals - First time he watched Beatrice die - Learning about Meili - Petra and Frederica dying - Cut up a lot - stabbed in the eye - Emilia going insane with him unable to help her - Having to admit Emilia doesn’t love him - Watching Ram and Garfiel die - Roswaal beating the shit out of him - Eaten by bunnies - it’d be really cold because of the snow - Slow and agonizing death In terms of physical and psychological traumas, I don’t think another life compares; episode 15 from season 1 and episode 8 in season 2 are probably the closest.

This episode finally establishes for Subaru that he is being forced to make a choice. If he leaves for the mansion then Emilia goes crazy, if he stays in the sanctuary the girls in the mansion die, and regardless of what he chooses the bunny is coming. Is a very sadistic take on the “you can’t save them all” trope.

@@itsjoesantos9553 It's the entire point; Roswaal's view on fate and what things have to happen for a better future clash against Subaru's and it's Subaru's goal to defeat those ideals through applying his own. Resolving this dilemma in a way that saves everyone is the main conflict.

Two things to make note of for this episode: 1. While Roswaal did suspect that Subaru was looping through time, he does not know about the exact method Subaru's using to do so. He doesn't know about Return By Death. It's why he was beating the sh*t out of Subaru but refusing to kill him. He was trying to convince Subaru to do another loop but didn't know that Subaru has to die in order to do that, and Subaru couldn't correct him because he can't tell anyone about Return By Death....which if that doesn't just perfectly describe Subaru's terrible luck throughout this story, I don't know what does. 2. It wasn't explained as well here as in the novel but the state Emilia was in was because someone stole the letter Subaru left for her, making Emilia think he'd just up and abandoned her, possibly because he was fed up with her, and so she threw herself into the tomb's trial over and over again in order to try and break the seal around the sanctuary and go after him. But because she can't pass the trial, all the attempts basically just mentally broke her.

I also love how much Emilia's state this episode mirrors Subaru's back in Episode 18 of Season One. Like you said, she likely tried clearing the trial over and over again, which was just like how Subaru progressively lost hope more and more during his loops in Arc 3. Finally, she reached her breaking point and decided that Subaru was all she needed, kind of like how Subaru said that Rem was all he needed as a way of running away from his problems back in Episode 18.

15:07 well that's the thing, Roswaal does not know Subaru returns by death, he just has a vague idea that Subaru is doing something that messes with time. The book itself is Roswaals guide, everything that he does or has not done was because of the book. In season 1 he mentioned to Ram that his ultimate goal is killing the Dragon so the book must have laid out some sort of path that will lead him to achieving that.

As he stated, he follows the book's guidelines to reach that future which he desires so every action he ever took even before meeting Subaru is due to the books contents. Rescuing the demon twins, meeting Puck and Emilia, accepting subaru, leaving the mansion when it was under attack then returning just in time to kill the mabeasts that were about to eat Subaru, etc. You could say in choosing to follow the book Roswaal has lost his free will.

This the 2nd episode since Outside of Madness where everything that could go wrong in a loop went HORRIBLY wrong. - Subaru is hit with the realization that Beatrice lived 400 years in solitude for "that person" and became suicidal and has to deal with how he should best handle saving her from her fate whilst making her happy with her life as well. - He finds out that the girl that went missing, Meili, was the one behind the mabeast attack and has another obstacle to face. - He confronts with yandere Emilia who, after being isolated from everyone to reattempt the trials constantly and feeling betrayed that the guy she shifted her overly dependence on from Puck seemingly left her without warning, has reached her breaking point in sanity. - Subaru is finally revealed that Roswaal is the true main antagonist of the Sanctuary, him having killed Ram and Garf to confirm Subaru's ability, and seemingly want to morph his mindset to be like him to completely prioritize one thing or the other (final reveal in 2x13). Oh yeah, and the last sequence with the kiss of death feels like it's ripped straight out of a horror movie in its presentation, goated ep.

By the way, Apostle =/= Sin Archbishop. Betelgeuse was the Archbishop of Sloth, he had the Sloth witch factor. Subaru thanks to Echidna's tea is an Apostle of Greed, but he doesn't have the Greed witch factor - as far we know this Apostle of Greed title only means he can control the Ryuzu clones.

@@coranbaker6401 They're probably not Apostles of any kind. The title of Apostle is used exclusively by Echidna for her subordinates. Maybe in the future we'll see other witches bestowing Apostle titles, but so far only Echidna does it. Not related to witch factors or the overall story.

So that comment at the beginning with Subaru return by death and his last day, this is kinda of touched upon in one of the IF stories, it will reverse him back to where Subaru can make the decision that the witch of envy desires, and make him choose the right decision. Take Sloth IF where Rem runs away with Subaru instead of helping him overcome his insecurities. In sloth IF Subaru and Rem leave and live a peaceful life, get married have children etc. he is most likely going to die of old age. With return by death being that it’s not the direction leading to a desirable solution he would be returned ALL the way back to that moment when he is at the fruit stand before he decides to run off with Rem

That witch-sound has happened in season 1 when Subaru realized something was off, before. So I don't think it's "witch-powers activate sound" but is instead "feeling a moment of horror, feeling something is not right"

In regards to Elsa surviving the magical attack, I'm not certain, but I'm pretty sure she has a magic(or something) cape that must shield/negate/something either magic, or an attack in general. If you watch all the fights she has been in, its always right after she gets badly hurt or you would have expected an attack to have killed her, suddenly her cape/cloak is gone (I think we even see it dissappear in one of the bar fights?) Im thinking thats how she is always surviving those kill shots, after which, she tends to deal Her kill shots. Hell, maybe it doesn't protect but could be a single use full restore or one off resurrection on death item or the like.

Yes she does have a cloak that can absorb any 1 magic attack before being disposed. I believe she mentioned it in arc 1 of the anime but it might have been novel only. As we later meet her boss, it makes sense why she can just get a new one each new mission.

I think their biggest problem with it was the sound cue, which has only been used (I believe) right after Subaru returnd by death. So they got caught in the sound direction of the episode fucking with them.

@@cassiohenrique6815 I think it's a problem with the way they watch shows in general; they really feel like they don't want to miss anything, so I think they tend to read too much into stuff that a normal viewer might accept at face value. In this case that the sound cue was just there as a fake out for the viewer. Not that it's really a failing on the guys' part or anything, I think it just comes with the territory of being a reaction channel.

While I greatly prefer the Sub, I don't really agree it's ruining it. the Dub definatly isn't FMAB levels of good, but the dub is 'fine' enough for people who hate subs, and is better than expected.
