I'd say it's heavily implied at least that Witch of Envy showing up now (and not prior loops) is due to his talking about return by death in a very open conversation with Echidna, without the ability to interfere and stop him from within the dream world. Envy is still supposed to be sealed away, but this appearance made me wonder if Subaru (and/or Emilia) provides loop holes around that somehow.

Honestly considering the author's stated that Satella would probably provide a good fight for Reinhardt and she apparently had some trouble catching *Garfiel* here, I'd say she's probably significantly weaker here, and not actually unsealed.

The exact titles they used for the ones that sealed the witch of envy are "the first Sword Saint, a Sage, and the Dragon". There are a lot of similar titles throughout the show, so it's important to be specific.

I love the chaotic nature of the witches, even while doing good they cause chaos: -Minerva heals by beating you -Daphne solved world hunger by creating man eating monsters I like this take on the nature of the sins instead of making them outright evil.

Daphne didn't solve anything, mabeast meat tastes horrible according to a character that appears later and probably isn't fit for human consuption due to the miasma in it, and the own mabeasts are just as hungry as their creator and are never full, so Daphne, like every other witch, tried doing something good only to end up hurting everyone involved at the end. Minerva also caused way more destruction than she healed people, but you'll learn more about her and the other witches later, they're really interesting

Think of Return by death as a secret between lovers. Subaru sharing secrets meant for the both if them makes Satella jealous and angry. Also if you noticed when she was grabbing Subaru, you saw flashes of rem and Petra. And if she was heading to the mansion it probably means she doesn't like any girl in his heart

I'm going to explain some cut content that would have been in this episode, so Pseudo Spoiler Warning: Echidna explains that witch factors need to be compatible with their host, else they cause dissociation and personality splits. She had to alter Subaru's mind with her tea in order for him to be compatible with the sloth witch factor he got from Petelgeuse. According to Echidna, Satella and the Witch of Envy are effectively two separate people, that are one entity, with 2 vastly different personalities. Satlella was not an envious person at all, so when she got the envy witch factor, it broke her mind after a while. The result was the witch of envy. The two effects of Subaru's Return by Death are a reflection of that. Satella would be the one rewinding time and allowing Subaru chances to save himself, while the Witch of Envy is ensuring nobody else knows about their intimate secret.

One of the more under-talked aspects of this is the unique takes on each of the sins and how each witch embodies them. There's so much to discuss even without all the info on them revealed yet, so I'll just quickly state over my own interpretation. - Greed can be about hoarding everything to yourself, but the core issue it stems from is transaction. By viewing through a practical standpoint, you discard anything emotional significance in your exchanges. - Pride can be about being arrogant and self centered, but the core issue it stems from is responsibility. Believing you hold more control of a situation, even bad ones, leaves no room for change and unpredictability. - Wrath can be about throwing an uncontrollable rage, but the core issue it stems from is tunnel vision. You get so caught up in fixing what's in front of you that you don't see the big picture and it backfires. The other three I'm not too sure about but I have a vague idea about still. - Gluttony can be about eating for as long as you want, but the core issue it stems from is indulgence. - Lust can be about having sexual desire/pleasure, but the core issue it stems from is unconditionality. - Sloth can be about acting lazy and not doing anything, but the core issue it stems from is free will. I suggest reading up their lore and powers because it all ties in so damn well with this.

Here are some Interesting translation notes that may provide some additional context for everyone, Sub or Dub The witch of envy tells Subaru "Aishteru" repeatedly this episode. While the literal translation is "I love you," as shown here in the dub and is also what the sub says, Aishteru has a much deeper and more impactful meaning that English has no proper match for. It is a confession of love that has such deep passion and emotion behind it, most people never say it out loud, save perhaps for emotional moments like a final goodbye on a deathbed or at a wedding. The only other time we have heard Aishteru used so far was from Rem to Subaru in the From Zero speech. Additionally, while both the sub and dub refer to test in the sanctuary as Trials, the word used in Japanese is shiren. Trial is the correct translation of shiren, of course, but what's interesting is that shiren is the same word Petelgeuse used in season 1 to describe the cult's attack on the mansion, or more specifically that Petelguese said Emilia would need to endure. However, in season 1, shiren was translated to Ordeal, which is also technically correct. As the guys speculated here, it appears that Emilia has been possessed by the witch of envy. If you recall, Petelgeuse explained that the purpose of the Ordeal was to prepare Emilia to become the bodily host to the witch, as explained by the Gospel. No concrete explanation on this exists, since a Gospel can only be understood by its owner, but it is interesting to note the connection, especially since the author uses shiken, a different word for trial (in what will hopefully be season 4) in another situation related to the witches. The difference between Shiren and Shiken is that shiren is comprised of the kanji for trial and training, and shiken is comprised of trial and test. Shiken could also have been used to describe the Sanctuary Trials, so the distinction and decision to use Shiren may be noteworthy.

Not exactly. Aishteru really means "Love you". The problem is that Japanese is customary that You should use "Like you very much" 99% of the time instead. And Aishteru should only be used when you have a very good relationship with the other party and are really important (eg: going abroad, getting seriously ill). And "Aishteru" is not only used by Rem. Theresia and Wilhelm also use "Aisuru/Aishteru", The last question of Theresia asked Wilhelm’s questions "Do you like flowers?", "Why do you raise your sword?"and"Do you love me?", And Wilhelm's reply after defeating the White Whale: "Theresia, I... I love you."

So the witch of envy would also have return by death I'm assuming. So what if she loves Subaru the same way he loves Emilia. But like Emilia he can't remember why she loves him, because she reset by death. You go around in circles with her because her love makes no sense seeing as Subaru is not from her world and she was sealed away long before he was born. Her and Emilia being the same person is the most obvious thing that would make sense. Although that drags in time travel shenanigans.

Loved mystery in the show,love the reaction faces and loved the discussion. As always few points :- - Emilia and witch of envy look the same,so this was probably witch of envy and emiilia is engulfed in shadows or she just possessed her,but its not emilia emilia - How she broke out of seal is a mystery,but what aaron said is the most popular theory and heavily implied,that she couldn't reach subaru when he talked about RBD in echidna's castle of dreams,Maybe sealing her involved a contract of subaru /someonenot speaking about RBD...? otherwise she can reach you..? Glad you explored concepts of glutonny,the show does too and will more,The one you saw with daphne was just gluttony's take on appetite/hunger. on the other hand in episode 1 of season 2 when Lye devours the whole army and talking about thirst hungers,hes talking about eating people's emotions and MEMORIES,thats why he said he didn't had such a great feast in long time,seeing how everyone had a great battle,so every one is full with all kind of emotions,ups and downs,while rem's memory being tasty of them all. Also good point to explain power system in re zero So brief overview of power system in re:zero,no spoilers The power systems can be categorized into:- 1) Divine Protection/Blessings :- the one felt has for wind,several reinhard has you know it. 2) Authorities :- invisible hands geuse had,the power regulus/lye had in episode 1 of S2,RBD possibly authority as well? and its all related to witch factors,i will not go further but spoilers,but witches power should be considered authorities as well. 3) Actual magic mana,will recommend echidnut's video on this after season 2 is over,but it was touched upon by puck in season 1 you have four basics fire,water,earth and wind then shadow (shamac/support magic)and light ,all of them are categorized then into yin/yang affinities. So interesting thing puck uses fire magic when you see him using ice crystals and when roswaal uses fire balls hes also using fire magic,because fire magic in re zero refers to temperature control,so there are neat twists on magic in re zero its really well thought out and complicated but show usually skips over them since is not the focus. The power of a spell is usually stronger by the word they pre-fix before the spell,so lets say Goa is the fire spell roswaal uses,so the power of spell goes like this. Goa < EL Goa < UL GOA < AL GOA. Anything prefixed with AL is the most powerful tier of that particular one

Hey guys! For someone who has never watched anime before (besides pokemon when I was a child), what would you recommend me? No limits, however I would prefer adult themes when compared to childrens themes.

If you've been enjoying Re:Zero, you might like Erased. It's about a guy with an ability that sends him back in time moments before a life- threatening incident so he can try and prevent it. When his mother is murdered, he ends up getting sent back 18 years into the past and realizes he can try to both save her and prevent a string of kidnappings/murders that occurred when he was a kid. I'm trying to avoid spoilers in the summary since it's kind of a mystery/thriller show. I compare it to Re:Zero because both main characters have a "do-over" power, but Erased doesn't have any other fantasy elements to it. If you'd prefer to stick with the fantasy/isekai genre, I'd recommend Rising of the Shield Hero (a more traditional power fantasy, but the hero is despised by the people who summoned him) or KonoSuba (kind of a comedy/parody isekai where the main character and his party are a bunch of lovable idiots struggling to get by).
