So... I thought, or at least was under the impression, that 'Return by Death' was something uniquely exclusive to Subaru as Satella has straight up admitted to being the one who gave it to him and set up its conditions as its the means by which she can keep an eye on him and the reason its 'save point' mechanic works as she is Subaru's 'observer'. This Arc has already established this as far back as the prison island bit where he first met Cecilus and got him to join his side when the whole 'save point' issue was out of whack bc Satella lost track of him somehow. But, Al clearly shows a form of RBD. Which begs the question. Is Al really another, older version of Subaru from another timeline who met Pricilla first instead of Emilia? Or is this just a power similar yet fundamentally different to Subaru's power? Then gain, the way he talks about Subaru and what he seems to know lends me to think it's closer to the former than the latter if for no other reason than Occam's Razor as temporal manipulation does seem to be a an element of the plot overall, case in point... The Tea Party and all of Satella's words about Subaru are explicitly in the past tense even though Subaru himself shouldn't have met the actual Satela yet and whose lines when talking to her before leaving are eerily similar to his interactions with both Rem and Emilia.... Regardless... mysteries abound.

well, subaru affinity is shadow, but the easiest color of magic to learn is earth. it is possible that in 18 years he learnt that magic since its more useful than shamak and cant be resisted (sight obstruction, terrain movement, ecc)@@N21464

@@N21464 That's true. Forgot about that. But, that's not rock solid proof that he isn't Subaru though, or at least not the Subaru we know and love. For example, say it is a Subaru who met Pricilla first and not Emilia. That one difference alone opens up the possibility that other things may be different about him too, like his magical affinities. Granted, that's just conjecture, but not one you can outright dismiss without at least considering its plausibility. Regardless, the issue at hand is 2 fold. Who really is Al and whether or not that power is, in fact, Return by Death. If not, then what is it, if it is, then was Satella the one who gave it to him? Or someone else. If the former, then why? If not, then who did it and why? As far as RBD goes, you'd think it'd just be a wholly unique power. But, seeing as Al does seem to have a version of it along with the already suspicious nature of his identity and the pre-existing theory that he is Subaru... you can't just write it off jsut because he can use earth magic. That's not enough to prove anything other than he can use earth magic, not that he might not be Subaru. We need something more decisive... like him talking about his past and seeing if anything at all lines up with the person named Subaru from 'before' he got isekai'd.

Like it's almost too deliberate. Like she even has the same hair ribbon. idk it just seems strange.

I think that is Arc will have more than one perma-death. Because… Ufff… There is a lot of characters here that seems that they will suffer a permanent death. We have: Yorna, Tanza, Todd, Katya, Jamal, Gustav, Weitz, Hian, Idora. Ublik, Goz, Arakiya, Madeleine, Flopp, Medium, Serena, Rowan, the Prime Minister(I hope this old dude actually die) and even Vincent himself.

@@gourmetsx7503 among the people you mentioned? The only ones who actively wants to die are Yorna and the prime minister. Jamal is willing to sacrifice his life for his loyalty to the emperor (and for Katya's future), and Weitz, Idra and Hian want to be useful to Subaru, but none of them have actually given up on their lives. And while the prime minister does want to die, he wouldn't do so as long as the empire still needs him. Only in Yorna's case, death is her dearest wish, so whether we get a good or bad ending to this arc, Yorna is likely to die

No, you'll remember earlier in the chapter Rowan stated he was an outlaw, the reason why he was outlaw was because in the past (i.e before the events of re: zero), rowan told cecilus to kill vincent, but cecilus didnt do that, and instead told vincent, and now rowan is an outlaw. Currently all of the 5 are working together, you will remember that Rowan said he will help Groovy if Groovy pardons him for his crime, thats why rowan is helping.
