Having the Witch factor makes you a Witch. It passes on when the person dies. The Witch of sloth had the sloth witch factor, that passed to Betelguese and then passed to Subaru. Something people overlook so much in this show is the Term Witch factor comes from the fact that the 7 women who had them were called witchs and so their abilities are just called witch factors even in the present of the show. Even though the Archbishop of sloth had the sloth factor people still refer to it as a Witch factor. The factors themselfs probably predates even the Witches. The history of this show is a mess because the Witch of Envy apparently "devoured" half the world. so almost no one REALLY knows what happened before that time.

The "desperate" stuff Garf was laughing about was Subaru's desperate attempt to cheer on Emilia by writing on the walls. Subaru was embarrassed because he didn't expect Gard to go in there.

In regards to ages, most characters are between 18-25 ish. When we meet Rem and Ram, they are 17 but a few weeks away from 18. They are 18 at the start of episode 12(there is a month timeskip between episode 11 and 12 of S1). Otto is 20. Subaru is currently still 17 but a few weeks away from 18, (his B day on April 1st, Rem and Ram is on February 2nd).

Emilia said ittekimasu, the Japanese word for when you leave. Subaru didn't say it to his mother the last time he saw her, and got the chance to do it in his Trial. The word before eating a meal is itadakimasu.

Emilia is using the name given to her in the OVA Frozen bond. To be an actual witch you need a witch factor which Emilia does not have. Ultimately it is just a name witch factor holders had back in the day. Tappei(author) has said there is no real difference between the witches and sin Archbishops, only difference is name given to them. Emilia is just taking ownership of a slur used against her. As Frozen isn’t a witch. Also I personally prefere the "Witch of Glaciation" translation

Just a heads up since I don't see anyone saying it when that black orb cracked is Subaru's chest that was him finally breaking his already damaged gate. Felis told him not to use Shamac for a while to let it heal but he didn't listen so now it is broken forever and he can no longer use his own magic ever again. RIP Shamac.

Envy can't be Emilia's mother. Emilia is 50/50 mixed (the barrier affects her), meaning her parents must be pure, pure human + pure elf. The Witch Of Envy is also a Half-Elf.

Garfiel's character reminds me of Bruce Banner/The Hulk. Both have a lot of pain and anger from past trauma. But it seems like the young man is starting to try and deal with it. I am definitely rooting for hkm. He has been a big highlight this season.

Garfiel smelling the witch's scent was a lie you're supposed to believe along with Subaru, RYUZU SHIMA smells it!!! And she's the clone he's the most protective of. She was the one who was there for his trial, and because by going in to help him she also took the trial, giving her some of Ryuzu Meyer's memories because she's her clone, she was no longer allowed as an administrator of the sanctuary or whatever they call it. She's the one against sanctuary being freed because of what she saw. So whenever Subaru ran into her and Garfiel heard about the witch's scent he would also be more hostile. This is why Garfiel knew nothing about the witch's scent in the third loop where they fought together against Satella, or the beginning of the fourth loop where Subaru was certain he must stink more than ever on waking up in the tomb after dying near Satella. Garfiel didn't flip out or anything because Subaru hadn't met with Shima at that point who told him about the scent.

Emilia is reclaiming the insult “frozen witch”, she was called that in the ova that focuses on her and puck by the guy that sold stuff to her! She isn’t an actual witch, to be a witch you have to have a witch factor, and emilia doesn’t have one! There’s probably a reason why echidna called her a witch’s daughter but my guess is that she said that to insult her, or maybe there’s a deeper reason? idk

19:35 “Which witch?!” Yes, good question. It’s good that you didn’t jump to concussions that she’s Satella’s (Envy’s) daughter. Using “THE Witch’s daughter” was a poor translation choice. They should have said, “A Witch’s daughter,” meaning she could be any witch’s daughter. In Japanese, Echidna simply said, “majou no musume” which doesn’t specify a witch. If she wanted to say, “THE Witch’s daughter,” she would have said something like “ano majou no musume” (THAT Witch’s daughter). Japanese doesn’t have articles (a / an / the), so if they want to specify a certain thing/person, they have to use a pronoun such as “ano, sono, kono” (that/this).

16:27 “Itadakimasu” 頂きます is what you say before eating (it means, “I’ll be partaking of this food/item”), but Emilia said “ittekimasu” 行ってきます, which means, “I’ll be going (now).” Subaru responded with “itterashai” 行ってらしゃい which is what you say to someone leaving. That is often translated as, “see you, bye, have a nice trip, farewell,” etc., depending on the context.
