Nice video !! Thanks for sharing this with the world. My radiator transmission cooler cross contaminated just like this one. I noticed a very slight vibration when overdrive was engaged, checked my radiator cap and saw a tiny bit if ATF in the coolant. I disabled overdrive and drove 18 miles to a shop and had them flush the transmission while I walked across the street and grabbed a coupler to bypass the ruptured cooler. That was over 40k ago. Pheeew.

I hate to say this but you still have a problem. Damage can not be fixed by fixing the water in the cooler. Its in the transmission and has started to dissolve the glue that holds the clutch material on. Sorry but it will fail.

@@bradstransmission3846 I believe you, but at 40k miles ago and only the very smallesr amount of water only getting in the fluid for a very short period of time, at 155k miles on the transmission today, it's running very well, smooth shifts even when towing a lot of weight. I'm happy with it for now.

Thank you for your reply Brad! I am tearing into one of these that had the same thing happen with coolant getting in from the cooler in the radiator. I am a Master L1 certified tech but still an amateur trans builder. Your videos will be super helpful! I have a nice clutch spring compressor from Adapt-a-case and three sets of bushing drivers from Snap-on. I have driven bushings in on other units with a hammer and also tried the shop press a couple of times. The arbor press looks so much for efficient and even handy at times for other tasks. I also have the GM low/reverse return spring tool that I will be using. The videos are giving me a nice amount of confidence and I can’t thank you enough. I also have a scan tool here at the shop that is capable of programming the TCM in the replacement valve body! Good stuff Sir! Very helpful!

Dear Mr. Brad at first i want to say sorry because i know English not good and i hope you understand. Thank you for everything that you are doing you and your video instructions are great and lot of thanks for this. I repaired my Nissan Xterra 2005 SE 4.0 4WD Automatic RE5RO5A Transmission using your videos unfortunately i have no money for professional service they are very Expensive and total liars in my Country that's why i'm decided repair it myself. My transmission was burned totally i cleaned everything including valve body inside, changed all friction plates and run without any problems few thousand Miles without any problem but then it's started shifting from N To D position very strange when i'm shifting to D it's like shaking and shifting little bit but after few seconds it's like shifting again but normal it's like shifting in drive two times as two steps first little bit at 20-30% and then completely Shifting in to the drive it was first symptom then after this it started abnormally shifting from 2nd >>> 1st with shock while shifting after this it also started shocking from 1st >>> 2nd otherwise transmission and car at all working very well no error codes other positions working without any problems and normally and also transmission oil looks very clean i removed valve body clean it again check everything but no result oil level is ok fluid is very clean but problem exists can not understand whats wrong and i can not find any solution. Change valve body is very expensive for me i have no money :( any ideas will be appreciated please help you are my last hope. Thanks for attention!

Sorry to say but you need a new valve body. The valves wear the bore out and does not properly seal. that is why you are getting the problems. Sorry. You need a new valve body.

Hello again Brad I can't find my last comment but this is what I found All new fractions and steel are .060" and all are flat I did notice that forward clutch piston does not sit flat but has a gap at the outer edge .130" looking at your video and online everything looks flatter than mine.

PRECISION INTERNATIONAL is the best kit out there, but most the kits have what you need for the over haul. you must replace the valve body with a new one or remanufactured one.

quick question Sir. My 2006 Nissan Titan two wheel drive had a transmission line to develop a major leak while driving one day. I was going no faster than 35 MPH. Once I noticed the smoke, i slowed down to see what was going on. I could tell by the smell it was transmission fluid. So i had to drive to a safe spot to pull over, about 1/4 mile going 20 MPH. Once I stopped, the fluid kept coming out. So I'm sure that a majority of the fluid leaked out. I had it towed to a shop, and they replaced the hose and refilled it with the proper amount of fluid. It drove good for about a couple of days, then one day it would not go into reverse. So I did not drive it. The next day, it went into reverse, but I still did not drive it. I have taken it to a shop today (three weeks later) and they're telling me that when this transmission runs out of fluid like this one did, that it basically destroys the transmission beyond repair. Does this sound right to you?

You don't need to replace the steels unless they are burnt or wavy. The kit is what ever you feel is the best, I have never heard of tramsmaxx. I just use Transtar, That's all that's in my area. You need to replace the valve body with computer. they ware out and that is why your transmission is slipping. Remember that the transmission must be flashed to work. if you don't you will burn up your new transmission. DO NOT USE THE COOLER IN THE RAD!! BUY AN AFTERMARKET COOLER!!!

Hi. my car pathfinder 2010 4.0 when changing gear from P to D or from R to D, there is always a delay of 2-3 seconds when shifting to D. The rest works very well. What can be? Electrovalve? I have new, original oil. What I use is a drill bit. I take one that is between the max and min clearance and it should barely go in. That tells me I'm with in spec's.

Question the sensor that you removed at around minute 6:00 is what? Is it possible to replace the Turbine Revolution Sensor and NOT the whole valve body? My code reading is saying P1716 ....and if that sensor IS available what would be the part number? Also you mentioned that the valve body's TCM needs to be flashed . Would buying a remanufactured valve body come with the tcm flashed? What exactly is being done during the flash? Just telling the tcm what the VIN number is or is there more to it?

The speed sensors are part the connector plate and the valve body. They come with the valve body when you buy one.

This trans looks like a nightmare to do as far as 6 zillion steps but I guess that's all automatics huh ? Do these hold up pretty well? I already installed an external trans cooler I never trust inbuilt radiator ones so when you said it's common they fail I thought oh damn . Thanks for the video man I love the free education of KZbin. Amazing stuff. I watched this video like it was a god damn movie. Ha. I like doing all my own. I like that the valve body is serviceable without removing the trans. That's a partial miracle !

You can remove the speed sensor by remove the oil pan, disconnect the green terminal by the Manuel shift valve, then by removing the trans axle and extension housing if it's 4x4 or if it's rwd then just remove the tail housing. You'll see the speed sensor right by the parking pawl, use a 10mm to remove speed sensor

Thanks man for these vids. I need to know, I am having problems with my re401/3, it's the 4x4 from 2008 isuzu dmax. I've rebuilt it twice and annoyed, need a new one. I would love to know if I can upgrade it along with the tcm to one of the re5 , 5 speed, using the transfer case from the dmax , which right hand oriented. And have it work perfectly. Will it be possible since the difference is 4 speed vs 5 speed and tcm?

Hi Brad, Thanks for the amazing video! I have a '08 Armada that has the dreaded snap ring failure causing reverse issues. Only about 50 miles on it since it happened. If I just replaced snap ring with double wide upgrade, clutches, seals and gaskets think I would be fine? Any advice you can give? You might be OK, but the valve body have issues that cause big problems. If you don't replace the valve body now you will have to later, and it might cost you more! Since you have never built one I don't know if I would recommend that you do. I've been doing it for more then thirty years and I still fight them. Up to you.

Only when the transmission is at full operating temperature, there is "RPM flare-up" or "delay" in shifting from 3rd to 4th gear. When "cold" there is no "flare-up". I found one instance of someone online that did this successfully from a 2008 G35 in a forum. He stated the bell housing, transfer case adapter, and output shaft (from short to long to make it 4WD) need to be swapped, plus the shift linkage needs to be moved from the driver side to the passenger side (not sure how hard that is to do). He used the old / original TCM and valve body, and the G35 torque converter (I think all the torque converters are the same). I am not sure about whether an AWD G35 already has the long output shaft or not (would like to know as that makes it even easier). I may try this approach. (To clarify, original TCM and valve body from old trans -- not the G35's.)

Can someone help me? I have a problem with my transmission, the gears shift perfectly, but I don't have reverse. At first when I put it in reverse it wouldn't go until I pressed the gas pedal to about 1500 RPM. Now it won't even start like that. I took off and cleaned the valve body, chek out the solenoids, cleaned and inspected all the valves on the valve body, when i put the transmission back together it still behaves the same. Does anyone know what is problem?

You might have a problem with your center support. I've seen them crack so their rev clutches' won't apply. remove the valve body and air check them.

The only thing that comes to mind is that your low on fluid or I hate to say the pump was stacked. You did put a new Valve Body in and had it reprogramed right?

The fluid level is ok and i bought a new valve body but i could not get it reprogrammed by Nissan so I changed all solenoids and the pressure units . Do you think something is blocking the oil pump ?or i have to re-examine the gearbox . Another point is that it slips les in 4th & 5th speed .

Sorry to say but you have to use a new valve body and have it reprogrammed. That's the problem. Put every thing back and find someone to program it.

It all depends on how the transmission looks. If the oil has a burnt or discolored look then I would say yes.

Sounds like you have a valve body problem. Sticky valve or maybe wrong gaskets?

Maybe. you might have a wiring problem. hook a scanner up and make sure the computer is commanding 2nd and 4th and make sure the transmission is getting the signal.

thanks brad.. what about another Nissan trans it's had may same group from JR507E RE5R05A I SAW this tool can't able depress the reverse piston down as u post on this youtube.. i work on infinity G35 2006 and it's the same as show u using this tool.. have u done before which one spring compressor i can use to press it's down..?
