I'm actually glad you did this one! Yeah, the vocal isn't all that mind blowing, it's Uptown Funk, how can it be? 😂 I saw him in London on Monday and my favourite moments of the whole evening was when he'd take time between songs to chat to the crowd, tell jokes, thank people, etc. He's extremely charismatic and endearing and has a sweet personality and sense of humour. So yeah, I'm glad you got to see that side to him because I think most people just assume he's serious and stoic all the time.

THANK YOU for reminding that music is not just about vocals, thank you, thank you!!! Yes, Dimash vocals are great but stage presence trumps vocals IMO and god I SO agree with you.
@gilad_performer
@gilad_performer 5 жыл бұрын
Cox Fire I actually think that the vocals are as important as stage presence (which is why I’m not a fan of most pop singers who may give a show but can’t sing), but Dimash was able to keep his vocals great despite running around and having fun. That’s why I think it was a great performance!

@@gilad_performer I see what you mean I'll be honest I am not into pop, my bands are more Radiohead, Queen, Queens of the Stone Age, Arctic Monkeys, Hendrix, Led Zep, Blur, Nirvana...you see the style (and probably wonder what I do watching Dimash videos, ha!)And some of these bands have good vocals, but that is not what makes them good, you know what I mean? I have seen some of them live and they are not always perfect vocally but they do engage with the crowd. In the case of talent shows, if one contestant has perfect vocals but 0 charisma, I'd rather take a guy less vocally impressive but better performer. Now for Dimash and what I have see of him he is great at both which might be why he intrigues me so much and makes me listen to music I usually avoid

Hey ! I'm really glad you did this one ! I like it a lot, yes it's fun, and yes he's so good. There is a thing a lot of people don't see, because they mostly see his big performances, on big emotional songs, but in fact he's a very funny guy. And he does a lot of more fun songs. I was at his concert in London, and didn't just saw an amazing singer, but also an amazing perfomer, we laugh a lot and we went by a lot of emotions. And as you said, he's so happy when he's on stage and it's very communicative ! Thank's a lot for the video ! :D

He himself describes his style as neo-classical - mixing contemporary music with opera techniques and even traditional singing styles and even rap - which kind of ensures surprises as you literally can't be sure in which direction the song is going in the next second. This was a competition and it did not allow as much experimentation as his later songs. He even use to change the songs from one performance to another a lot.

You know what, Natalia? A lot of people have given your friend/boyfriend/husband some criticism in past Dimash episodes (which, I won't lie, I do think was mostly warranted, :) sorry :) ) BUT this time he was the one who found positives while the majority of us Dimash fans only found negatives! I was actually so happy seeing his (and your) passion as he got a little fired up. I love how he shows he really cares, how he really wants to communicate whatever it is he's trying to say. He's actually an inspiration! It's not about trying to do insane vocals and touch someone's heart/emotions every time. We should be appreciating more "normal" performances as well. On another note, you guys are right, there still was some fairly difficult singing done in parts of this song. Nothing absolutely phenomenal or "alien" like Dimash sometimes does but it still was probably more difficult than some give credit for...Then again, that's still not the point. As your friend said, sometimes it's just about having fun and getting the crowd to jump around and have fun with you - it doesn't always have to be a technical showcase. Thank you guys so much, both of you! Your friend/partner actually touched me and made me realism how unfairly demanding me and many others are in that we expect every Dimash performance to be some "alien" masterpiece. The guy is only human like the rest of us!!!

I didn’t realize this was your comment, too. Glad you liked my take on things. As a performer myself, I felt compelled to point out how important it is to be a well-rounded artist and to find ways to engage with an audience (and have fun on stage) regardless of the genre and style of singing. I sing rock, I sing pop, I sing opera, and I always look for a way to engage and be connected. Thanks for watching and for your comments!

Something fun like this that you can react to, with a bit more vocal play, but still funky, on a Korean tv show that makes current singers do modern takes of old 60s to 80s songs. Comes with english subtitles. 4 girls (3 vocals, 1 rap) Mamamoo - Wonderful Confession kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZq0i6CoiLOBi80 For your personal viewing: TV show is called Immortal Songs 2, and it pits multiple pro singers against each other. Each episode has 1 old legendary musician that is the guest of honor AND whose music /songs have to be used and re-done by the attending singers. Audience votes on every song, last man standing with the highest score, wins the show. This is the Mamamoo episode (with english subs available, and some really good musical acts, including Korea's "Celine Dion" apparently): kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmW2dJuPZqx9i6s&t This is the Michael Bolton episode, where he was the guest of honor (and every act had to re-interpret his music) : kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6q8qpqHaM-Bbc0 They should do this in the west as well. Really great idea to pay homage to the greats in a modern way. Brings both old and young audiences.

Hello you two, you're just great. I do not know who says that you should not look uptown funk?!? Personally, I think it's great and i love it! If you see on your own what Dimash has for fun on stage and the people around him too. It shows a nice side of him and some complain because his English is not so nice or sounds. But it's not his mother tongue, because he's from Kazakhstan. And when you see and hear his other songs, which he sings in English, you hear that he is getting better and better. There are still so many beautiful songs that I could recommend to you, like "SCREAMING" at the Idol Hits, there he will surprise you as well. There is also a very small PhantaCity movie when I heard the song for the first time, it just filled my eyes with tears. The story is just well done. Or his duet with Wu Tong "JASMIN FLOWERS", with Victor Ma "THE EARTH SONG", with Tengri "SWAN GOOSE", with Wang Li "YOU AND ME" and with Zarina "QUESTION OF HONOR". All very nice songs. Warm greetings from Germany

Hi Guys, Awesome Reaction!! and I couldn't agree with you more, everything you said I have said to some of the reactors who were a bit dubious about this performance. Week 5 of the competition was "Crazy Fun Week" and although this wasn't a showcase for his voice, Dimash certainly had fun, he involved the audience, the band and his fellow competitors. Obviously since "Singer" with all his concerts under his belt and his singles he does show more of his "pop" style and a good one to watch, when you're ready is "Lively planet/Neverland"( it's same song) and went straight to number one in China and is a good pop song. 👌👌😊😊

You might enjoy his duet with Wang Li it is all his baritone register. Unfortunately way to short but beautiful. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIjTamZ6nrONhpo. I liked 5 it wasn’t the best musically but he was 22 and he was having fun. Great to see. You probably gave him a huge compliment with the MJ reference he says Michael Jackson is a huge part of his influential singers. According to what I have heard. He was brought in as a wild card to the competition and had from what I understood almost no time to prepare for the entire competition. He felt he was a guest in a sense on the first show. I fell in love with him originally on Love of a tired swan in Russia. More recent. But I enjoyed seeing him grow from the Singer.
