@@jbt-qu6lm To make a final verdict, like if my opinion actually mattered at all, I'd need more info on what "blowing up" entails for sure, but the whole situation is so ridiculous and sounds so shitty to be in that I'd get upset for sure. And I don't want to just say "her going to her parents' house for the night isn't as massive a red flag as it would be in most stories like this, because she's on the spectrum", because everyone's different and that statement could be interpreted as downplaying abuse against people on the spectrum, but from my experiences with friends on the spectrum who despise conflict and consider their parents' house to be a safe place to go when overwhelmed, it didn't immediately raise any extra alarms from me. He also could've been horrible and violent, but she came back to him instead of staying with the inlaws, and the inlaws are more critical of his wanting the kids out of the bed than his "blowing up", so I'm inclined to believe he was firmly NTA, as someone whose opinion will never even be read by anyone who asked for it.

The story NL tells at the end about the cross country coach reminds me of a Spanish teacher I had in high school. Before we took a test, he gave us a little impromptu speech about how we shouldn't cheat, and that once we were done with the questions and couldn't answer any more of them to just turn the test in. I hadn't studied at all, so the moment he finished passing out the tests, I wrote my name on the blank test and turned it in. The teacher was surprisingly cool about it and thanked me for being honest.

@CrisesofSanity3 жыл бұрын
My suspicion is that the guy in the last story is descended from a culture that greatly values ties between any family members, even extended family. I used to go to school with a lot of Indian kids, and they all seemed to have waaaaaay more cousins than me or any other of my friends--because they were counting second and third cousins and so on, and always hanging out with them and going to religious gatherings with them and stuff. So it would make sense to me if last guy's parents were immigrants from a country with that kind of culture (which maybe also explains why they're so controlling and anti-dating).
