The important thing is that they grasped what was going on, even without them; although, I agree that the conversations add depth to the movie. I would suggest that you guys go back and read the subtitles before watching the second film, if you see this message.

My thought was that they didn't show up because they had captions turned on so maybe that turns off the sign language captions? Maybe they are assuming the person who turned captions on can understand ASL (as silly of an assumption that may be)

They had subtitles in the movie theatre. So it was meant to understand everything. Especially since they know not everyone knows ASL. The scene I can never get through is the Dad sacrifice scene. The only thing that bothers me about the movie is not the movie itself. It is people saying there isn't a lot of dialogue. But there was. ASL is dialogue. It's still lines that the actors have to memorize.

Interesting story: I’m not a horror movie person. I scare way too easily when it comes to most horror movie elements and tropes. But I saw this movie and it’s in my top ten as one of my favorite movies and my favorite horror movie of all time. The imagery is gorgeous, the characters shine, and the story is heart-wrenchingly beautiful because at the heart of it all, there’s a father who loves his family and wants to see them thrive. Plus just seeing Reagan (the daughter) and Marcus (the son) snap into action to save their parents is one of my favorite parts. Honestly, it’s one of the best family movies despite its apocalyptic circumstances. 😂 I’m glad you enjoyed it and I hope you react to the sequel. It really expands on the children’s character arcs, Marcus especially. First Klaus and now this? Thank you so much!

Saw this movie in the theater and it was crazy how quiet it got. It's like everyone was a part of the world. People even slowed their popcorn eating down. It turned out to be a wild experience in a different way. One thing I would get extremely annoyed about being in that world is having to redo the sand paths when it rains a few times. That would be HORRIBLE. There are subs for the sign language! Oh no, missed out on so much dialogue lol

I guess you watched this with closed captions, meaning the version intended for people who would know ASL, but not hear the other noises? Kind of funny, but as others have mentioned, the sign language in this is, usually, subtitled. I don't normally go to the movies without popcorn, but I was so glad that I thought ahead enough to skip it when I went to see this. Good decision indeed. I could hear a girl a few rows behind me gradually stop eating hers, as it was just too loud in the quiet theater, haha.

This movie is so great since it's like it's being told by their daughter who can't hear anything and how everything is going on through her life. Also Emily and John are married in real life and have so much chemistry. They're just amazing actors even if they don't act together in a lot of movies. I also liked that John actually learned sign language to be able to talk and communicate with the actress who plays his daughter :) now that's commitment

As someone who really only watches horror movies, it is very easy to become desensitized to certain things. It is so nice to watch a movie that I have seen that didn't really scare or impact me much when I first watched it with people who aren't as desensitized because it's like watching it for the first time again. It's easy to forget just how impactful a lot of these movies are when all you do is consume them over and over again, so thank you for showing that horror movies aren't just about how many jumpscares or how scary the material is. I don't normally do recommendations, but I would love to see you guys react to some movies that aren't monster reliant or supernatural or apocalyptic. One of the better ones I have seen are Midsommar, OLD, and Mother. If you haven't seen them, or you have but not for a long time, I totally recommend them!

This had no business being a realistic apocalypse movie but it definitely is! The interesting part is that the creatures strength is also its weakness because without their hearing abilities they can’t hunt so it’s not an intelligent creature per say, it is just well equipped with super speed and hearing abilities as well as the obvious sharp and deadly body features. It’s also super clever how they showed that only those with hearing aids can figure out that specific painful sound frequency so its not just something humans didn’t think of it’s something they genuinely couldn’t have known if they didn’t have kids with hearing aids

When me and my big sister saw this in theaters, we were the only ones in the room so that was different. Anytime if they accidentally make noise, I’ve been crossing my heart, my sister laughs when she sees me doing that because I get worried, and right where the Dad makes a sacrifice for the kids when he says “I love you” I was like “no,no,no”(in tears). I think one of the reasons this is so good is that it is not just a horror movie. It crosses genres. It is also a suspense thriller and just a good human story. Something that we don’t get much of anymore. I don’t hate the marvel super hero stuff but I think that it is way out of balance. We need more stories about regular people using their non super hero talents to survive. The acting in this has been so under rated. I am not an actor but even I know that acting without words is so hard. Everything has to be comunicated through your face and eyes. Emily and John did an incredible job as well as the children. I remember first seeing this alone at home and when I had to go to the bathroom I paused it and caught myself trying to be quit walking through my house. It messes with your brain.

Oh The Quiet Place! I was thinking of Hush when I clicked this. Such an amazing and heartwarming story, I absolutely loved it cause I’m a CODA to a mom who was born fully deaf and chose to get a CI. The little deaf girl has a hearing aid and while she chooses not to speak and sign instead (which is beautiful) the fact is the hearing aid ending up being protection and saving their lives. You CAN be a part of both worlds if your heart is big enough. Love and acceptance makes the world go round. Both ways.

Sorry for my ignorance, what does CODA and CI mean? I love your comment by the way! ♡♡♡
@chaotic7cam
@chaotic7cam Жыл бұрын
@@wayasaunooke3424 CODA stands for Child Of Deaf Adult. Theres also a difference between a hearing aid and CI (cochlear implant). Unlike hearing aids, which amplify the sound of what you can already hear, a cochlear implant bypasses damaged portions of the ear to deliver sound signals to the hearing (auditory) nerve. So to simplify it a CI helps those born deaf with no hearing capabilities. Hearing aids are to help hearing loss. So to be politically correct (I mess up saying hearing aid verses CI a lot and my mom is constantly trying to correct me - which I understand now) the little deaf girl here would be using a CI and not a hearing aid. Thank you I hope my explanation helped! 😄

So happy you're doing this, I'm not a horror movie person either, at all, but this intrigued me bc Emily Blunt is one of my favourite actresses and the concept of her and John starring in a movie together, a movie that John had also written and directed no less, was just too good to pass by and I didn't regret watching it, probably my favourite horroresque movie to this day. I just love the idea overall, the cinematography and the details in the worldbuilding, like all the little things you pointed out that they replaced and did differently because they make sounds even though we wouldn't even notice it in daily life until it's shown like this. Fun fact: Emily wasn't originally planned for the role, I remember her saying in an interview that John gave her the script to read and ask her advice on the actess he was going to ask to play the role of the wife (forgot who it was), but after reading Emily basically said sorry to whoever you were gonna ask but you HAVE to give me the part xD

OMG this is SUCH A GOOD MOVIE!! I saw this in the cinema the same day I saw Infinity War - I saw this around lunch time and IW at around dinner time - and I barely remember seeing IW, I was still that impressed by this movie. It seriously does absolutely nothing wrong IMO, every single piece of the whole is perfect. That moment where the dad is about to sacrifice himself for the his kids and he signs "I love you. I have always loved you." to his daughter breaks me every single time.

I watched this in the cinema with only 4 other people in the room. It was so incredibly quiet it made me stay on the edge of my seat the whole movie and it felt like holding your breath constantly. I loved it!

I cannot blame the deaf girl for the death of the little brother but i think shes responsible for the death of her dad if she stayed in the farm and look out after her mother like her dad told her he would still be alive

I saw the film at a press screening. Can you imagine how quiet it is with exactly 8 people (critics) in an almost empty cinema and how every loud noise hits.....?. After the film, everyone said unanimously: Great first directing work and intensive acting.

23:54 fun fact, the girl actually heard the monster running away for a short bit, hence the look on her face as she suspects what may have just happened

This is still just so good watching it in theaters is so cool seems like other had the same experience of not wanting to eat really or make any noise because of how quiet the movie was and I wonder why there were no subtitles so you guys could really grasp everything since there wasn’t much actual talking but I mean they do a lot with just emotion alone

This movie was so awkward to watch in cinemas, everyone didn't want to make a sound. Such a unique cinema experience.

I know you posted this two weeks ago but I’m catching up on your posts. I don’t know if someone has mentioned this yet, but hearing aids give off high frequency feedback, the whining sound that happens throughout the movie. It happens when sound waves that are already amplified by the hearing aid are picked up again by the hearing aid. Sometimes the feedback is strong enough that other people can hear it, and sometimes only the ones wearing the hearing aid can hear it. But it is a very painful and loud sound, as I think anyone else who has worn a hearing aid can attest. What really sold this movie to me is how much of the little things are picked up on, namely the feedback being the thing to save the day. It wasn’t a huge heroic effort on anyone’s part to solve the crisis, just something that is very normal for deaf or hard-of-hearing people. Anyway, I loved this reaction, I hope Haley isn’t too traumatized😊 it’s not a horror film, but maybe you guys would enjoy Sound Of Metal, a film about a drummer coping with his hearing loss.

By far the quietest the theater has ever been lol I enjoyed it though and damn did John direct pretty good. Love him in Jack Ryan if you haven't seen that series.
