@@stevie it may be a bit of a gibberish mess. Pardon me. I have too many things in my life. I don't want to add something else. I will never be diagnosed. I will not allow it. I'm cool. Oh my God. Are you kidding me. No no no no no. Seriously. I do a thousand things at once. I run around the house, and remember all the things that I walked away from. Is that seriously ADHD? What? Literally I've never looked into this because I'm like no. No more disorders. No more genetic syndromes. Seriously though I have so much on my plate but what? This is really ADHD, crap. A 20 minute dinner takes me an hour and a half. Don't at me 🤣 😂😂🤣 I'm only 4 minutes and 39 seconds in and this is making me quite emotional. Shoot. Like seriously this is how it happens, because it happens in my daily life. 17 minutes and 28 seconds? Can I handle this? I'm laughing I'm laughing right now I'm I'm laughing. Making light of the situation. It'll be okay. Object permanence there's a name for it. I don't want to tell you how many light bulbs I have out, and I only realize they're out when I turn them on. I know this because it just happened. Again what the phk 😟 You can always reach the toilet paper from the counter you know. Oh my God. But I have to admit I get really excited whenever I actually put a roll on. Oh my God. Close piles. What? What? You know whenever I first met my husband he never had a clothes pile. He still doesn't. God love him he brought me a a rolling laundry basket so pretty so nice what has a huge pile on top of it and then I have a few other ones you know just a few. They're in my room where the door is shut so nobody sees them. And I don't hang out in my living room so it's nice and clean. No piles. Although there's some boxes in there.. 🙈🤔 I just bought audible last night what the actual hell is going on what was the universal lining saying you really need to watch this because watch it. There are a few books that I want to read and I'm having a lot of trouble getting through them, all three of them yeah because who reads three books at one time? Me. Okay so what if someone hyper focuses on many things. And not just one thing? I bet you know that I don't accomplish a lot in a day but guess what, we have a week that turns into a month and you know. It gets done. oh my God I can't believe this. Oh my God you have ehlers danlos? I'm hypermobile and vascular. That's what I meant in the beginning of my comment I have a lot on my plate no reason to add something else in there. I feel bad cuz I interrupt people a lot too. I have to mentally tell myself to be quiet be quiet be quiet and then I'm like pay attention to what they're saying did you hear what they just said. Please don't ever ask me to memorize your name in the first year that we meet. It takes a good year for me to understand your name or learn it okay. Okay I just took a break and I spoke with my husband. I was like holy crap I have never ever investigated a DHD look at that I said it wrong whoops talk text. So I said holy moly I truly think I have ADHD, my husband says Jesus out of 21 years you finally realize that. I said wait a second you've known the whole time. He said yes why do you think I lie to you so that you can be on time. Why do you think I go ahead and fix everything that you don't fix because you forgot about it. Why do you think I allow you to interrupt me because you need to get that mind flow out or else you'll forget about it and blame it on me later. Because it was so important which nine times out of 10 it really is so I think it's precious you interrupt me just to get out what you have to say so you can get it out of your brain. He's like darling I love you so much. Sweetheart you have ADHD and I've known this whole time. He started naming off different things that I do, he laughed and said I bet you any money there's a link within your connective tissue disorder. I said oh my God I'm watching a video right now where a woman had just brought that up. My husband, so sweet and endearing. He says, darling I love everything about you. But to be honest with you, I would love to see you focus on one thing. I laughed and I said there's a girl on here that says oh my God people can actually just focus on one thing. No joke it's impossible for me to meditate. I mean I can shut things down whenever I go to sleep. That's why I have to listen to scary stories when I sleep. It helps my mind go quiet. Oh my God. I'm shook. I am seriously shook. I wonder if my son knows too. The whole thing on finding things moods everything. I'm 14 minutes and 41 seconds in. I'm flabbergasted. I can't believe this. I just thought it was hyperactivity. Like you couldn't sit down. I had no idea it was all of these things, in a hens basket, with a goat and a cow, and the kite. Taking a ride on Puff the magic dragon. Don't forget to pass, it's un- polite to puff and not pass. So in school. I couldn't understand in first grade why they dropped off our lesson in science, and picked it back up in third grade. That was a hypocrisy to me. They wouldn't let me take out the third grade book to finish the lesson. So I convinced my grandmother to write a check, yes I'm not old. And buy me the book so I could finish the lesson. I would finish all the lessons before everyone in the class I already knew the answers and a lot of times I didn't have to study for them. Always above level. So above level they didn't know where to stick me. When we would get taught a lesson I would be like why are you dropping it and not picking it up next week we're going on to a whole another subject oh don't worry you'll pick that up in third grade what? Like if you're going to build a castle you don't do it on quicksand. Why give me a fractal bit of information that I have to hold on to for 2 years and not know the ending. You're crazy. I guess that's hyper focused huh. Holy crap. I'm 44 years old and I'm just like realizing this. I mean I got chills. They're multiplying. Yeah I got that song stuck in my head now. What the actual heck? What? Medications don't work well with me because of my EDS? Yeah I'm kind of scared of medication. Kind of slows down my digestion and I don't want to get gastroparesis again. I'm actually really proud to say that I have EDS hyper mobile and vascular and I'm not on anything. Besides Puff the magic dragon and my delicious kratom tea. But like do we actually have to take medication to actually be able to focus? But I can focus but I can't focus. Sh hhhhh.... Oh I will finish a series in a day. I just put it on fast mode and listen. My husband's like how can you absorb any information. And blah blah blah blah tell it to him and he's like whoa you can actually understand that. Yep. I'm a good girl I never ruin things for him though. I like people to have joy in their lives. I promise you I won't tell you what happens. But I won't promise you that whenever I'm sitting there watching it with you that I'm not going to yell and talk at the TV. Or the movie screen. I can't promise that. Unless I'm chewing hubba bubba, or bubble tape. That's practically the only way you can really get me to shut up.. I love blowing bubbles and snapping my gum. I found that out years ago that my husband would always have a whole bunch of gum for me to chew whenever we would watch a movie together. I find that so sweet. But I had no idea that all these methods to my madness or actually a reality of ADHD. And I'm not self-diagnosing anything but God damn I hit every single thing in this video. I'm okay I'm okay. No I'm not no I'm not. What the hell? This is me selling off the edge of the Earth but actually finding out that the ocean just keep going and going. Go figure. Well Rome wasn't rebuilt in a day. That's my excuse for everything. Shoot. How can you rebuild it if you can't focus on it.?! Your video just gave me the biggest smack of reality. I don't even know where to go with this. I'm a little wigged out right now. Like one of those fluffy wigs that you buy from Amazon you're so excited, it only cost you $10. It most certainly looks like a wig, you wear it for a day, and you wind up looking like a person that has been struck by lightning, with hair growing out of their forehead, and no part to be had. Oh my gosh. Frazzled. Well, I'm going to go brush my fro out, and melt it with my flat iron. These are all euthanisms euphemisms. There that's better. Talk text, cheers. I reposted this on your name just hoping that you would see this. You have flabbergasted me. And bless my husband. I had to call him. Oh my goodness oh my goodness. I'm shook I'm so shook. I mean everything to a tee even your EDS. And I don't mean your tea I mean everything that they were explaining. I had no idea. Absolutely none. You may find my comment and comments, but I was really hoping that you would see this. I'm not trying to self-diagnose or anything like that but oh my gosh. I had no idea I had absolutely no idea. I thought ADHD was all about hyperactivity. 🙈🤦🏻‍♀️🤔🤭🥴😅 Please forgive the comments that have no flow because I was watching it as I was writing it. Called my husband in the middle and then finished it off. I'm sorry it's so dis-conjointed. I try to rewrite things but this one I'm just letting all the bladder out. Whoa is... me.... Little ol' me. Complete and utterly mind blown. I can't wait until my son wakes up from his nap. Don't fret he's not a child he's a young adult soon to be 18. I wonder if he knows too.

@@rosieblyther444 no joke I just got off the phone with my husband. I don't subscribe to this girl she just popped up in my feed my thumb accidentally touched it. It's like the universe just came together hello hello yes my dear you must watch this. I asked my husband, do you think I have ADHD? He laughs and says oh darling you don't know that? You love the human body, you have a protocol for cirrhosis of the liver, and hepatitis. You help so many people. 21 years of marriage and you didn't realize that you had ADHD. Everything that these people were talking about and doing in their videos I do. He's in trucking every time he comes home he fixes all the lights in the house. I don't understand why someone can't just reach for the toilet paper. Although I get really excited whenever I put it on the roll. Piles? Clothes? I plead the fifth. And they're behind closed doors so you can't judge me. Boxes, all those too. I'm flabbergasted. He laughed at me and says sweetheart do you know how many times you start, and it takes you a bit to finish them as you walk around the house going oh I was doing this oh I was doing that oh I was doing this. Dinner that'll take you 20 minutes to do will take you an hour and a half. We've been eating European hours since I met you. And I said you don't know that I might have been born in Europe in another life. And I'm just stuck on that time zone. He laughed and said no darling, things just distract you too easily. I said you're okay with that, he said of course I love you, and it's okay that you always interrupt me. I know you're just trying to get what you need to get out of your head when you're thinking about it because if you let go of it you won't remember for a while and sometimes they're important details that you must get out. I said sometimes. Hahahaha 🖖🏼😏 I'm a little flabbergasted right now. This young lady in the video said it may be connected to her ehlers-danlos syndrome. I have EDS hypermobile and vascular. I mean like you couldn't check these boxes off, what am I kidding yeah you can check every one of them off. I actually joined audible last night. I'm just in the start of my free trial. Yes I have three books going on Kindle. I thought to myself maybe it would help me if I listened so that I wouldn't kind of drift off and want to jump into something else and then something else you know who reads three books at one time I realize that. My husband says to me see darling, it's okay I've always known. I'm shook. Absolutely shook. I'm 44 years old and this stuff has been around forever, and I'm just realizing this. I mean this is like Twilight zone for me. You can totally do a skit off of me. I keep on going wait no oh wait no oh wait oh oh oh... Golf clapping turned into check out this beat. He he.... ADHD tiktok motivated me to see my doctor only to find out I have been diagnosed since 2013 and my doctor not only didn't tell me but threw me on every anti-psychotic and SSRI to deal with my associated depression and anxiety and never actually addressed my diagnosed adhd. So if you're wondering if you have it, go to the doctor and advocate for yourself ENDLESSLY. Be insistent. You are your only advocate and cannot count on the medical system to operate within your best interests.
@job5236
@job5236 3 жыл бұрын
I have a chronic illness and strongly agree with the part about the medical system. Doctors are humans. They don't mean to make mistakes, but they make A LOT of mistakes. Always trust your instinct and your body more than what doctors are telling you. If something feels off, GET A SECOND OPINION. I know seeing a second doctor costs a lot. But just think of how much trouble you might save yourself! If your doctor was wrong, you'll struggle for years because of a wrong diagnosis. But when you finally get the right answers, you can also get the help you need.

And it's all thanks to social media and having access to the experiences of actual neurodiverget people. I feel like I actually see myself for the first time. All my struggles make so much sense now and it's such a relief. But I'm so scared to go to a doctor about it and be told I don't fit the criteria. Apparently it's really hard to get diagnosed where I live. There's loads of old stereotypes and misinformation.

Imagine finding out when you are 55 that you have severe ADHD. Wow, that is why middle school and high school were such a nightmare. Once medicated properly your world changes and everything seems to clear up. So much of your childhood also makes sense. And now again without the medication, Docs don’t like to use it after the open heart surgery life turns once again. Symptoms return but they are like old friends you have had around your whole life, in the open or not in the open they have been there. Now retired, some of the hyper focus is less important so you can go weeks in the ADHD state with little or nothing completed. Loved your video, so many truths “they” will never understand. Life at 76 and no meds can be really entertaining. Be well and good luck.

As someone who was only diagnosed with adhd very recently (last month), i love that it's getting more attention. I never would've looked into getting assessed because i didn't present with the "typical" (ie male) symptoms. It was only because a friend got herself diagnosed, and through her research for self advocating, recognized a lot of symptoms in me and suggested i get assessed. Even then, i didn't think about it seriously until my sister was diagnosed with severe adhd in her mid twenties. Turns out i have basically no executive functions, and have just found ways to kind of live a vaguely functional life

Honestly TikTok also has so much misleading content regarding ADHD (thankfully Josie sorted out the more accurate ones first for you so you didn’t have to see those ones) and it was so interesting watching this because (similarly to narcissism) ADHD has a very superficial reputation in being just “unable to focus” and so many people have a very inaccurate idea of what it is. I did too so watching this I was better able to grasp how difficult some of the symptoms can be for neurodivergent individuals. It’s just so interesting and I appreciate you helping further explain how this effects people in their day-to-day life.

This video was the first time I considered myself to be ND (see my comment from one year ago lol). It was a bit of a shock tbh, but after researching a lot I decided to get myself on the waiting list fire a diagnosis. Two daya ago I was told that I'm very neuro diverse, that I definitely have ADHD and should also should consider an assessment for autism pmsl. Quite a bit away from the very neuro typical person that I thought I was pmsl. My diagnosis explains so much and I have this video to thank for starting the wheels turning. Thank you Stevie xxxx

The wild thing for me watching these is that I'm not ADHD but since I've become disabled with so much brain fog, I can now relate to like 90% off ADHD symptoms! I think it's super weird for me because I have always been super organized, always on time, gets to do lists done every day... now I'm like "wait, it's already 5 pm?! I thought it was still 10 am and I had more time to do my tasks!" and more. I definitely think EDS and some of my neuro symptoms are causing it because I never had the diagnostic criteria before. So interesting!

I have ADHD. Diagnosed within the last year... maybe year and a half? I'm 33 now. So a long history of absolute chaos, and thinking I'm just lazy and not trying hard enough 👍👍👍 Super good for my self esteem 🙃 Lol. Now I'm meditated and things finally make more sense. Plus I'm learning tricks to help myself all the time. Struggling to remember many right now though 😬 But one that has helped me a lot recently, with keeping my living space tidier, is bins. Bins for everything. Everything has a bin or a place. So if I still struggle with keeping it tidy, when I go to clean it's not much thinking and worrying about where to put things. Idk if this is helpful or just an obvious common practice. But it wasn't obvious to me lol. Edit to add my age, seems relevant.

I wasn't diagnosed until 24/25, and when I was, I had to take "classes" from my psychiatrist's office before they could actually treat me for it (state regulations, I think). Despite those classes and having a psychiatric nurse practitioner who actually *has ADHD*, I learned more about ADHD and its symptoms from TikTok than from any medical provider.

While better help sounds great, in practice it's awful. They have unqualified councilors (people have been hired without their credentials checked), at times will ignore your preferences to match you with someone faster. My personal experience was my councilor canceled half of my appointments, only held half time appointments and never was available to me during the week like she promised. This service is unfortunately a scam.

Well now I’m going to go get a diagnosis 😅😅 also explaining the tik tok you were confused about (the neat folding/perfectionism vs throwing things in piles) - sometimes you feel aligned and hyperfocused enough to do things but you HAVE to do them properly or heck it don’t bother / vs scramble brain days where you find it impossible to do anything orderly and crap just keeps piling up. For like 2-3 days my apartment will be super clean and I’ll be obsessed with picking up after myself consistently, whereas for the 8 days after I will leave everything everywhere and not give a single fuck (like really do not care at all I would rather do anything else in the world) and then freak out that I am living in such conditions and start the cycle again. Brains are fun!! Love this video thanks Stevie (from a not super consistent but very longtime follower) 💖

The 60 seconds trying to clean/get stuff done one was EXCRUCIATING. I don't have adhd, I'm autistic, and sometimes these things overlap and have similar symptoms (like the auditory processing issues). But that one? Hell no. That made me so nervous just to watch. For all the ways my brain betrays me when I like... talk to people, or have to make a change in my routine - I'm really glad it doesn't do THAT.

People self-diagnosing invalidates people who actually struggle. I suspected it since 2014 and only JUST got my assessments, last one is about a week away. It was VERY in depth and took me YEARS to have any professional listen to me, but I remember thinking back then "hopefully in like 5-10 years people will globally pay more attention to it and taking people seriously, and I hope that's what this all is . (not you, Stevie, but some people who self -diagnose)

6:10 Related to this one a lot. I don't exactly forget my friends and loved ones _exist_ (like I know they're out there living their lives), but if I don't interact with them on a regular basis, the relationship gets... muted? Less tangible? Something. Feels less real somehow. Texting doesn't really help with that much. Talking on the phone or over voice chat is better, but only by a little. Video chatting is probably the best long distance option for making people feel real, but in person interaction is unbeatable by a long shot. Unfortunately, with the way life functions as we get older, hanging out in person becomes a lot harder to do on a frequent basis... Edit to say: it's kinda like the longer I go without tangible interaction with my loved ones, the more they become concepts in my mind than people (which feels like a terrible thing to say). I still love them and miss them, but often don't realize how much until that interaction happens again. (Which sucks cause I'll think about doing it, but it just... never actually happens)

ADHD symptoms are mostly just jacked up normal people things that are super exaggerated which is why a ton of people think they might have it. But there’s much more too it then meets the eye. When I tell people I have adhd they either respond “I could tell.” Or “oh I think I might have adhd!” And I see a lot of adhd symptoms in my friends, but they clearly don’t experience all of the things I do. Or have the insecurities or RSD. I’m not a medical professional.

I might have to remind them again, but of course I don't remember to do it until I remember then I forget again...I don't really get the audiobook one, I've never had a problem with hyper-focusing on a book and I don't think I could deal with listening to a chipmunk voice overriding the characters voices in my head, that would be awful.

So, sometimesI feel like I don't have it and I'm just seeking attention. It gets worse when I see people having these weird things on tik tok happening and i don't relate.Awareness is good, but this is straight up false information and it can really make people self conscious. And writting this I also feel like I'm a fraud.

The more I hear/see people talk about ADHD, the more things I connect to myself but one thing I can't do is audio books/podcasts. I see people talk about them all the time now and it's often put forth as a solution for people with ADHD but I just can't do it. Firstly, sometimes audio books and podcasts remind me of ASMR and I can't stand ASMR, it makes me feel like there's a person standing up directly behind me breathing the words into my ear sometimes, really makes my skin crawl. Secondly, I think my brain is just very visually oriented so people will often say that I should do something else while I listen to the audiobook/podcast but all the tasks they give me are visual tasks like sweeping, doing laundry (chores essentially) and my brain just can't do it! If I'm doing a visual task, that will ALWAYS take precedence in my head over an audio task. The audio will simply be pushed to the back of my mind and forgotten or sometimes it'll even completely disrupt my ability to do the visual task because I HAVE to hyper focus on the audio to actually hear it/understand it which takes me out of the flow of my visual task. However, I can do more than one visual task at a time, like I can watch tv and play tetris on my phone and be able to keep up with both those things. I just can't do one audio task and visual task at the same time, my brain just can't work like that. I haven't seen a lot of other people ever bring anything like that up though. One thing I definitely relate to though is the lack of object permanence! Oh my gawd I've spent years being told I'm an asshole, or selfish or I "don't really care" about people who are actually really important to me, because I'm bad at remembering important dates, or keeping up with people if I don't see them all the time, or I forget someone's favourite coffee order if i haven't seen them in a few days and other things like that. Especially when I know I try SO hard sometimes!!! I'll work so hard to try to keep things in my brain and they still slip away from me, it's felt hopeless for years but seeing other people talk about this feeling, is finally making me feel like I'm not just broken, my brain's just different and that's ok.

I have ADHD and am fine with self-diagnosing to an extent, but strongly believe that people should follow up and have a doctor confirm their diagnosis if possible. It finally clicked in my head that I have it when I read something online with a person talking about their experience, but I got officially diagnosed a month or two later. It really is underdiagnosed, especially the inattentive type, which is what I have. My son has combined type and it was much more obvious because his symptoms are so visible.

Ok I’m really convincing myself I have ADHD. I’ve been trying not to because I know its “so relatable” to a lot of neurotypicals. So I figured that’s what I was doing. But the stuff you talked about with object permanence and that including people and then me having to remind myself every few months to check in on someone because I forgot I hadn’t talked to them for months. And my parents always being mad at me for not bringing stuff down to the kitchen and them not understanding when I tell them that I genuinely forgot it was there even though it was right next to my bed. Or telling myself ok I need to do this after I finish what I’m doing and 2 minutes later completely forgetting.
