What she doesn’t seem to understand is that the 600lb life patients she swears up and down she’s “nothing like” are actually scarily similar to her; and they lose 50+ lbs a month eating 1200 calories. @polliec8443 serving sizes on stuffed pasta are important. Stuffed pasta is a calorie bomb, eating an entire bag of stuffed pasta is insane and not at all related to marketing. Amberlynn has no clue about serving sizes, she's proven that countless times. Theres also more oil in the pan than she said she added, which would mean she put WAY more than 7.4ml in the pan. After being overfed by an abusive mother, I was put on my first diet by a doctor around the age of 10 that consisted of plain rice (no vegetables, no sauce, just plain rice). Up to this day I feel sick when I just smell rice. There is so much good advice around now. I love your channel John and all the great suggestions you give. I wish that knowledge was around when I was younger. I'm 5'2, I've lost 130 lbs so far, want to go a lot further. Walking 10.000 steps each day. Doing interval fasting, only eating at 12 noon and at 6pm. If I work late (which I do once a week) and come home after 10pm, I skip the evening meal and do a 24 hour fast. For the last two years I've basically lived of cucumber salad and vegetable soup. Menopause was a game changer for me. The hormonal change that comes with it means I now can control my sugar cravings. I never ate a lot, but I could not control my sweet cravings. Obviously, I know my metabolism is completely messed up. If I go over 1200 calories, I gain weight. 50 years of dieting and ED makes you an expert on all this stuff. My blood work is good, by the way. I am actually so grateful to my body that it has kept going and supported me through all this.

If she can stick to her stated plan -- 2000 calories on most days and occasional 2500 days -- then all is well. Averaging 2100 per day will get her down healthy-ish weight in the not too distant future. However, all of my experiences as a recovering addict (alcohol, cannabis & cigarettes) tells me it's effectively impossible for a food addict to stick to such a regime. All addicts must go through the process of grieving to gain control over their addiction. Whatever the downsides of an active addiction may be, indulging when they know it is unwise gives the addict some payoff, usually emotional. The addict must grieve the loss of that payoff before they can move beyond the active addiction. Backsliding to previous stages of grieving is extremely common for addicts. The first two stages of grieving are denial and then bargaining. Many addicts die without ever getting beyond the denial stage. I see Amberlynn's mind game of permitting "cheat days" as a form of "bargaining". It NEVER works. Any addict who tells themselves they can safely have some amount of their drug/behaviour of choice -- but no more -- is doomed to fail and already back into the depths of their denial. I do feel kind of lucky that it is possible for me to completely abstain from all of my drugs of choice. The fact that food addicts must still eat seems to me like one of the most horrific tortures that could be devised to torment someone.
@karilnowak79628 ай бұрын
I don't completely agree with your last sentence. You can resolve to not eat fast or ultra processed food and it has the same effect as deciding not to drink alcohol. The "I am going to eat the whole bag" is a thing for me as well. Especially with things that are more or less snack sized, I am more likely to eat in units. So I need to take that into account when tracking my calories, should I choose to snack one day. If I buy one roll of Oreos, I am going to eat all of them, I am not going to eat a couple and save the rest for later. Half the battle is knowing your faults and weaknesses. I have been hovering around 190lbs for a while, but neither gaining nor losing is also a type of success, especially because my measurements are still shrinking, so what I lose in fat, I gain in muscle.

2:59 it's the opposite for me, I have to be perfect or I'll fall off. I meal prep everything, I eat the same food every day so I know exactly what I'm having. If I didn't do that, if I don't count every calorie I have (within reason of course), I'll get demotivated. If I were to eat more calories than I should, I'll get demotivated. If I have a cheat day I'll think it's fine and then I'll have another cheat day, because if it's fine then it's gotta be fine another time, right? That is why I never have a cheat day, it's why I always make sure my calories are under my limit. And it works for me. I know it probably wouldn't work for everyone, especially the eating the same thing every day (although I have recently started making different meals to have over the month, but I make it in batches so it's the same for a full week) some people might get bored with that, I don't get bored with it (it's healthy food but it is actually delicious, not bland and boring)

So, she "feels sick and isn't used to" eating something like mac and cheese at the beginning, but at the end she's okay with essentially eating the same thing, but just reduced fat? It's still strange to me that a petite woman can eat so much. IIRC, she's 5'3". I'm 5'1" and if I ate a quarter of that I'd feel so sick and bloated beyond belief.

She no longer has a neck. That looks so uncomfortable. IDK how old she is, but I track on an app to AVERAGE 1400 a week. Takes the pressure of any specific day. Some days I'm only at 1200, some 1800. It provides flexibility within the week as my schedule varies.

Merely counting calories to lose weight will never work for Amber. She needs to overhaul the way she thinks about food, meaning she needs to eat healthily as in whole, non-processed foods as much as possible. It’s a lifestyle and lifelong commitment to health. Amber of all people should be extra conscious of eating healthy to mitigate years of damage done to her body, some of which aren’t reversible. By just counting calories but still eating salty, fatty, sugary processed foods, she’ll go back to her usual amount of foods consumed once she loses certain number of pounds.

I don't mind eating poorly once in a while, like when visiting family. I just need to live with the consequences of gaining a pound or two and with feeling yucky in my digestive tract. Its just a matter of getting back to normal eating patterns and exercise once I get back home, and trying not to feel guilty for it. Life is about balance, and a day or two of of less-healthy food in a month of good eating won't kill me.
@salih54477 ай бұрын
For me, a cheat day is an opportunity to eat the food I love but makes me feel like shit when I eat on a regular basis. Like I love fish and chips but can only stomach them once a week without them giving me a stomach ache or making me feel nauseous. Same with takeaway burgers or pizzas and a lot of ultra processed foods.

I honestly wonder what she does with her time. Not a single food was homemade, drinks are all pre-made, bottled water is terrible for constant consumption, etc. She uses delivery services for everything so she has more than enough time to put in a few workouts. At her health, even a few 10 minute walks & light weights throughout the day would make such a huge difference in her health. She’d lose weight, feel better, not need the melatonin, and eventually build up to bigger, longer exercises.

the best thing for her would be to eat whole foods. Meat, dairy, fruits, vegetables. That’s it. No need to track or weigh the food. she’ll naturally lose weight and her cravings will stop after a couple of weeks. I’ve done it myself.
@Bb-bg8gf5 ай бұрын
The problem with Amber is that she's having a cheat day very often. And if you're going through very rescritive diet and you cannot stop crawing something the whole week having that small ice cream or pizza would't be a problem if you knew you can stop binge eating after eating that one sinfull meal. But with many binge eaters(including myself) if you get your hands on those carbs once you just cannot stop thinking about them. Cheat days or cheat meals work only for people who have self control and are able to stop eating after that one cheat food and then stick to the diet for the rest of the month. And as we all know- AMBERLEEN HAS NO SELF CONTROL. She will continue cheating for the next few days because her addiction to sugar won't let her stop binging. She is also very delusional and manipulative about her whole dieting process so she will spiral into guilt after giving up on diet, she will continue with her poor eating habits until she'll find a will to start a diet again. Then again a week of healthy eating will pass, she'll have a cheat day and then a cheat week and the cycle starts again. This is why with her size and addiction she should find a profesional help from a trainer and dietician that will keep her on track

One of my favorite people always said strive for perfection, but accept excellence. I track my food on the lose it app and it allows me to split my weekly calories in a cool way. I can have more calories Friday thru Sunday and then less on the weekdays. I love having that flexibility because I tend to eat less in work days and go out more often on weekends. So I get 1500 on Monday thru Thursday and 1800 on Friday thru Sunday. I’m not perfect but I am doing an excellent job at balancing my weeks.
