For all the betta owners or future bettas owner , a betta will survive in tiny aquariums / bowls but will not thrive bettas need a minimum of 5 gallons to be thriving ! As for putting tank mates with ur betta fish you would need a 20 gallon for all the fish to thrive , ofc not including shrimps or snails they can thrive in 10 gallons with ur betta fish. I know “but it’s better then being in a tiny cup” yes it is ! But it isn’t the proper set up ofc IF you can provide the proper set up please do , I understand not all people can provide the proper set up

It's probably already been commented a few times, but generally, the smallest tank a betta should be in is about a 5gl. =) And actually bigger is better if you can! Not only does it keep your fish happier, but a larger tank can also keep higher water quality/things like ammonia and such don't build up as quickly because it has more places to go. I understand not everyone can afford a super large tank so that's okay, but I just wanted to share/pass on good info. =)

I want to have a betta, a school of cory catfish(5 or 6), a school of neon tetras(maybe 10??), and maybe some shrimp as well. Does this seem like it would be overstocked? Would the fish i want be compatible you think? I've never really had a community tank like this before. Its also gonna be my first planted tank. I've only ever really had a singular betta so its my first time trying to have one in a community.

These reviews are really good and you have good knowledge about bettas but personally I would like for bettas to have 5 gallon for one and maybe a few tank mates and for a giant or other bigger verities of bettas a 10 gallon or similar sizes and for sororities I would use 10 gallons and up this would have benefits like more territory, tank mates , and the water would be slower to start being dangerous for the bettas so that might be a plus for beginners. But that’s just what I think. Keep up the nice videos.

Hi! I’m not sure if your going to see this but, if you do, then yay 😂. So, I used to have a Betta fish called “Fin”, but since I recently moved I had to give him to my friend. He’s doing well. Anyway, in a week or two I’m going to be getting a new one! And I’m wondering, what is a good size tank, and also, what other fish do YOU recommend putting with a male betta fish. I know tetras are good (I think?), but I’m just wondering what you recommend, also, what sort of hides would they like? My old fish didn’t have a hide (oops) but I want to improve. Would they prefer putting a bunch of plants together to hide IN, or a little cave or something? I love your videos by the way! 🐟❤️
@planetfishness4 жыл бұрын
Hi! That’s awesome! I personally recommended the smallest being a 5 gallon if you’re getting tank mates but really a 10 gallon would be most successful and you can do more with it. For plants in a tank with mates I would get java moss and have it float (all bettas I’ve had with it love to swim through it), Annubias have larger leaves and are good as well as java fern. You can use a combination of a lot of plants and hides to provide good cover. The zoo med betta log at pets mart is only $4.99 if you price check it to their website and it’s a great item! Really any hide is a good hide as long as it’s big enough, sturdy, and isn’t sharp. For tank mates I would try a school of neon tetras or white cloud minnows. A school of fish is always best if you want fish as tank mates because then they can’t really single 1 out. Or ghost shrimp/any shrimp really, nerite snail. I hope this helps 😊
@miameowafrica89894 жыл бұрын
Planet Fishness Thank you so much for the tips/response. I will try and look for a “zoo med betta log”, but I’m not sure they have them here in the UK. I’ll definitely look though! Thanks for the advice! 😊🐟

I need some advice, im definitely a beginner and i havent had a fish tank for that long and ive been now reading about the fish i have and things like that. I have an angel fish, bala shark, kissing fish, pleco, and 2 tiger barbs. And i have them all in a 10 gallon, so im not sure exactly really what i should do because ive been now reading that you shouldnt have angel fish with tiger barbs because of their fin nipping, and also ive been seeing that most of those fish are going to get really big, and then ive also been hearing that they only grow to the size the tank allows them. Im a little worried if ill end up having to get a huge tank b ed cause the way my house is built, it wont be strong enough to hold a huge tank of water so im nkt really sure what to do and i meed some help. So please reply telling me what i should do. Any idea?

katie katie you may need a bigger tank, angelfish should preferably be in a pair or small school in tanks upwards of 20-30 gallons as they can get pretty big. Keeping a fish in a tank too small for them can be harmful as their body’s growth will be stunted but their organs keep growing. As of the tiger barbs nipping the angels fins I would just keep an eye on them, getting a bigger tank may lower the chances of the tiger barbs nipping their fins as they have more space to keep a distance from each other. Bala sharks can reach a maximum length of 35cm, so it is recommended to keep a full grown Bala shark in a tank no smaller than 70 gallons. Depending on what type of pleco you have they can also grow to around the same size as the Bala shark (bristle nose plecos only grow to about 15cm). If your house can’t support this weight you may need to think about rehoming some of these fish as they get bigger as a last resort, and look into getting some community fish that only get small. Make sure you try and do a bit of research on the fish you want to get (like the size, tank recommendations and compatibility with other fish). I hope this helps!
