The story behind this song is why we get upset when people take a knee to it. This song is for all Americans. Notice Chris took his hat off .

You should watch the video behind our National Anthem... when you know how the song came to be you will understand why people want you to react and why people get so emotional hearing it. :)

I'm sorry, I know that the National Anthem is one of the hardest songs to sing. However, I believe it should be sung EXACTLY as it is written. I don't think that a performer should put their own personal flair on it. The National Anthem was written to represent the USA as a whole not just one singer's performance. It should be, and used to be a honor and a priveledge for someone to sing it. I think that if people actually knew the history of how the song came about, then perhaps they wouldn't be taking a knee to it anymore. At least they shouldn't be, in my humble opinion. Francis Scott Key, during 1812 was Washington D.C's appointed US Attorney General. during the war of 1812 against the British, in August 1814. The Bristh had invaded Washington D.C., burned the White House down, the Capitol building down, and the Library of Congress down, and their next target was Baltimore. During this time a friend of Keye's had been taken captive and taken out to a ship. Key located the ship and went to negotiate for his return. However, they were not allowed to leave until after the British had finished the bombardment of Fort McHenry, about 8 miles away. so all day and night they watched the British attack, with their bombs, and at night the only way they could tell if the fort had fallen or not was by the glare of the rockets and they could see that the flag was still standing. Which was a miracle in itself. Because the fort surrounding it was destroyed. The reason the flag was still standing is because soldiers were holding the flag up. and when one soldier was killed they would be pulled off and another would take his place. And bc the flag stood tall and proud the men kept fighting all through the night into the morning until reinforcements could arrive. See those of you who take a knee to the flag or snub it now say it stands for oppression or slavery. However it doesn't! it stands for FREEDOM! We were being oppressed by the British. And weren't going to take it anymore. Yeah, we went about it the wrong way when it comes to minorities. We definitely oppressed you. and are descriminating against you still to this day. But look at our flag. it started out as just a circle of a few stars with just a few states. now look at our country and our flag has 50 stars 1 for each state! Just like our country we are growing and learning. only difference we aren't a piece of cloth. we are humans. and humans sometimes are stubborn and oppose change. We can't live in the past, we have to learn from it so we don't repeat it. But violence doesn't change things, talking and education does. teaching our children for future generations does. Be proud that your flag stand for Freedom, be proud that it says we won't be oppressed, and then be part of the solution to the problems our country faces today. It's sad when at a tennis tournament in the US the only people standing for our national anthem were the people from France. I was taught that the minute it starts you stand and put your hand over your heart. Being thankful for everything you have in our country, and thankful for all that have served and died to give you those freedoms. even if you are still choosing to take that stupid knee. Because in other countries, you'd be tried for treason for doing such a horrible disrespectful act.

I honestly don't know how anyone can listen to this and think anything negative especially at the end "brave" hearing all the voices join him. He reached hearts and souls which hasn't been achieved for many years and is so sorely needed right now. Thank you Chris for bringing the anthem of our beautiful country to the 21st century.
