The producers would also use scenes where the girls would make faces. I think it was Brooke who said in an interview she actually tested this theory. She was smiling and happy for most of the episode and then the one moment she stopped smiling they used that footage.

All of the other girls and moms said the producers chose to give each girl a “character” kind of and they wanted to make her out as the bored teen, when she wasn’t like that at all. The cast said she was always jumping around and dancing and singing and having fun with the other girls, but they never showed that. I love Brooke so much!

I'm glad she brought up that the whole body weight thing isn't okay. Obviously looking back the way Abby treated them was unacceptable and what they went through was traumatic, but shaming someone for their weight in front of a bunch of impressionable young girls is pretty damaging. I think this was very brave for Brooke to do. Dance moms was very traumatic for her, Kelly and Paige. And the fact she was able to do and post this video just shows how brave and strong Brooke is. Yes, but keep in mind that they kept doing the show. The gained notoriety from it and are benefiting from it now. It’s possible that you wouldn’t know who these kids were otherwise. If it were that bad I think they would have refused to renew their contract with the studio and with Lifetime.

I am so sad for all of you young ladies that went through this. I’m so proud of you for being the amazing young women you are today. I like many people watched this show but I truly thought it was edited to appear different than it was. I thought you were in on the “plot” of the week. I thought you ladies and your parents were acting. I had no idea you went through these situations like this. My family did comp sports and watching this show I learned a lot about how I would never treat an adult or child rudely. I saw that misunderstandings can happen so easily and you have to keep communication open with everyone and constantly check in to make sure everyone is doing ok. Yes, Brooke, your voice has changed a lot. A lot of petite dancers and gymnasts have light, soft voices, but I've noticed that some who stopped dancing or doing gymnasts before they became adults, had growth spurts and their voices deepened. Of course that's not to say that it happens to everyone in the field, it's just that I noticed it and heard about it from during interviews that I've seen. As for Holly's comment about Abby's weight, I imagine that made Holly feel unlike herself after some time had passed, but she'd been pushed to a certain limit when it came to Abby shaming Nia about her hair. We black women have always been shamed about our hair, and we still are. Since Abby went there, I guess it reminded Holly of that, so she took the same route and shamed Abby for being overweight. I saw the video of you and Christi where she said she regretted fat-shaming Abby. It's quite possible that Holly does do. Considering how she was so positive on the show about women uplifting each other, I can imagine that she does regret it. Also, you remind me a lot of a young Brooke Shields, here. Beautiful.
