All I can say is this song changed my life. I get goosebumps every time I hear it. It goes so deep in your soul. I have been going from KZbin video where people are reacting to this song because I just love to see their faces. Its absolutely mind blowing!!

The young reactors are all awed by the profundity of the song as well as the powerful performance. Older ones already know the later (some for over half a century), but are as delighted and moved by the beauty and depth of this interpretation.

My new favorite thing to do is jump on KZbin every chance I get and catch the latest reactions. This version also changed my life, I tend to listen to others opinions that are different than mine, try to see things from another perspective instead of blocking them out. It opens up communication between people, even if we don't agree, we can talk & listen, that's the only way to understand each other and find common ground.

You and us two too. When I first heard this, I couldn't believe it. I too grew up with Simon and Garfunkel, but this takes the song to a whole other level. Taken as a package, the song and the video together, it makes something that we think is greater than the sum of its parts. Listening to the reactions of others is so interesting. There have been a few for whom the meaning and emotion just seems to fly over their heads and for them I am sad.

Great reaction. You should definitely react to their live version from the Conan O'Brien show. Despite being sick that day, lead singer David Draiman delivered a performance for the ages, complete with an orchestra. Conan celebrated the video of their performance as it was the first video from his show to get 100 million views. Keep up the great work!

This has always been a fantastic song! It was well written by Paul Simon and masterfully sung by Art Garfunkel originally. This rendition is a good one also. It is vocally reinterpreting the song, to some extent, but I think this is effective in light of the fact that the message of the song is more impactful and applicable today than it was when originally recorded, although it was also true then. It's like a warning that has been ignored and so the urgency has increased and that urgency is being communicated vocally in this rendition you're listening to in a "distressed" way. I love your response and your appreciation for the talent of the singer. It seems that you related to the song and its message both musically and verbally. I always appreciate your reactions to these songs. Here's to your next one! 🙏🙂❤️

This has become a standard for the band, always expected at their live gigs! David and his brother were classically trained singers. He turned to metal and his brother is an opera singer. Paul Simon said he wrote this after a dream and the meaning is still argued about. The video I feel talks of the rediscovery of lost music. One island find the sheet music, the other find the instruments and travel to them... Paul Simon saw THIS very performance on Conan and loved it... kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJyag4mtaK5rm8k Check these interviews with David... kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKWxl6qlgKljjqM kzbin.info/www/bejne/baauiXuui550i8U The official video... kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2qnmGCdbNllopY The original Simon and Garfunkel version... kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHKooaN8irx_nMU Pentatonix did an amazing version of Disturbed’s version of this song... kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZW5m4mqpddoa68 One of Disturbed’s classic tunes!!!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmqvhYdmrdyXnNk

The first stanza Simon refers to darkness as being his "old friend" that he came to talk with because he was awoken in the middle of the night, of a nightmare that still lingers in his head, that gives his a considerable amount of distress. So bad that the awful visions were still flashing before his eyes as he is awake. Second stanza begins setting the scene in which the dream took place: at night, him walking along the cobblestone road where he stops below the light of a streetlight. The cold chill runs up his back, so he lifts his collar to the "cold and damp." Just then, a blight neon sign lit up, showing that he, in fact, was not alone. But there were "ten thousand maybe more" all gathered in the cold night. The people who are talking, not speaking, are politicians, who are using false words to sway the population to vote for them, never revealing true intentions. The people therefore are hearing are not listening. They are taking these words that are spoken to them in plain value, not examining or putting into depth anything that is said. Because of this, as referred to later, these politicians have formed a government that the people in fact voted for and supported until it began to act as a dictatorship. This seems that Simon is making an inditement to a large government that has taken away the freedoms of its people. A future for America it seemed with the rise of government in world affairs as in entered Vietnam. This "future America" has given Americans everything, and has the power the take it all away, hence the people "bow and pray to the neon god they made." The Silence that is referred to is the silence of the people, afraid to say anything against the government for fear of death or worse. Simon, or whoever has had this dream, tries to bring people to speak out. Saying "Fools, you do not know, Silence like a cancer grows" that as more are afraid to speak, the more control the government takes and the less anyone will stand up to the new government. As all hope is about to be given up, someone steps up and says to the crowd that the future they will hold has been written on the walls of subways and tenement halls. This is because this form of protest can be done anonymously, therefore no one can get in trouble for it. This begins the whispering in the silence of the people, and starts the beginning of a revolt.

Pretty good job.... 1st time viewing. My Husband and I in Cape Town enjoy all the reactors here on Continent reacting to different music. Will follow yiu. But you missed one extremely important part. You fast forward through beginning scenes. The song is " The Sound of Silence. " the entire song is about music not being heard. The Ending is the Musical Instruments being brought back. Throughout the song......" Writing songs...that voices never share" .... Again silence. The first 5-10 seconds you cut was the Singers idea and videographers filming to show the musical instruments in disarray, destroyed and silenced. If they though enough to start like that. Please look at the art beginning to end. Someone viewing the " Sound of SILENCE." might miss why the Silence.

For me it relates to so much of today's situation, the breakdown of meaningful conversation between left and right " People hearing without listening" and peoples addiction to their phones "When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light" and the absence of spirituality, being replaced by social media, and the phone as its being used, we bow our heads down and scroll, "And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made" The lyrics are so beautifully deep you can just dive in and swim 🙂 I wish you well 👍
