Yes, that was a great moment. Deja Vu is nothing short of a masterpiece. It is a beautiful, fragile ballad that kicks your teeth down your throat in the chorus. It is extra difficult to sort out, because it tells the story from two perspectives. You know how even evil people think they are the good guys? This is reflected here. One perspective is Yoohyeon's, who gets corrupted right in the beginning. She thinks JiU is bad (does not want to share power) and backstabs her and kills, imprisons or banishes the other members so that she can rule alone. The other perspective is reality, where we can see JiU be kind to Yoohyeon, but she gets killed for it. It's not exactly a Deja Vu per definition, but I believe this is a commentary on the different perspectives people can have about the same event. The lyrics seem to hint at an abusive relationship, where there are usually two perspectives as well, and the abuser finds excuses to justify their actions.

Their songwriters are two guys that go by the names of Leez and Ollounder. They have created almost all of Dreamcatcher's songs. They compose the music, write the lyrics, lay down the instrument tracks (some live some sampled). They play some of instrument tracks themselves, notably piano and will sometimes bring in an outside musician if they're looking for a particular sound or instrument they don't want to do themselves. Then Leez adds the vocal track which he sings himself and delivers the completed guide version to the girls. They listen to the guide and then work with the writers to decide how to divide up the lines. The guide version of Deja Vu with Leez singing all the parts is here kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmLLqZWMgruXZ9k Leez has no trouble singing Dreamcatcher's songs because he has a high tenor voice. The guide is actually one key higher than the Dreamcatcher version. The backing vocals on the Dreamcatcher version were actually sung by Leez.

Kpop was never on my radar until your first Dreamcatcher reaction way back. It perked my interest so I dove in to that world and am now really impressed by many artists/groups for doing what they do very well. So much so that I've even started to TRY to learn some Korean! There's always those generic, formulated to be popular groups, but there is a lot of talent in Korea! To me, Dreamcatcher is one of the best. Mamamoo, EXO, Red Velvet, Day6 are some of my other favorites. Thanks Chase!

@@luisEnrriqueReyes I like vocal talent and a less corporate attitude, not necessarily "ballad" type (though Wendy is my most impressive vocal so far and RV is more straight pop than others I mentioned). But from what I see of kpop, those ballad or more musical type songs are where vocal talent is allowed to show. No disrespect to stuff like Twice or BTS, they're fantastic doing what they do,, but I'm not as drawn to that that type of sound.

You asked why Asian groups seem to be so good at choruses--with my experience in Korean, Mandarin and Japanese language songs, Korean ones do seem particularly good at hooks. Though a good portion of Kpop these days are done by Scandinavian composers as well, still a lot done by native Korean composers, you'll have to ask where they learned their craft!

Thanks for another great reaction. I've been a subscriber since your early reactions, BandMaid, and Nightwish brought me to your channel. I'm a huge fan of your breakdowns and explanations, which is the reason you pause a lot. I've seen a few (actually sh!tloads), that pause for no apparent reason, and it is annoying. With you, I know I'm about to learn something, which in turn increases my appreciation for the track. So thank you for expanding mine, and others knowledge, musically. As for Dreamcatcher, I love this group. The whole team, members, writers, producers and so on are remarkable. Their discography is huge. If you ever start to delve into their B-sides, you'll discover an amazing diversity of genres. I sometimes feel like , I came for the rock/metal influenced sound , and stayed for the B-sides. As far as "Boca" goes, I would be keen as to hear and see what you have to say about that. Another track of theirs, from their latest mini album, called "BEcause" I definitely think you'll find interesting as well, and not just musically. As a self proclaimed Horror movie fan, I think you'll enjoy the M/V as well, as it was inspired by a Horror movie. And yes, protect Julia. 😊

It's nice to see you getting back into Dreamcatcher. It's been too long since your last one. I get it. There is so many amazing groups out there, you can't spend all your time on just one. You're 7 songs in, all title tracks, and as you've seen they are all pretty consistent. These all have that signature Dreamcatcher, rock influenced sound. And it's great, but... There is so much more to Dreamcatcher. Their b-sides cover a wide range of genres, from EDM to ballads to funk to jazz, a little reggae thrown in for flavor and so much more. Being b-sides they might not all have as much depth, production wise, as the title tracks, but they are all put together very well and, in true Dreamcatcher fashion, they're all top notch songs. I kind of suck at genres, so bear with me here. I might be a little off on some of these, but I think these will be close enough to give you a feel of what to expect. For RnB, try And There was No One Left*, Red Sun*, Daybreak and Wonderland*. For jazz, try Jazz Bar For funk, try Black Or White For more something more electric, try Silent Night and Trap There's also their latest comeback, BEcause. I'm not sure what genre it fits, but it's a Dreamcatcher title track so it has all the DC goodness you'd expect. * = There are [Special Clips] for these songs on their official KZbin channel. For the others you could try a lyric video or maybe a performance video from another source. I'm sure there are Insomnias here that can provide you with a ton of links. But beware, do not use anything from any of the major South Korean TV networks (Mnet, KBS, SBS, etc) because they can be a bit bitchy about copyrights. If you want to revisit Boca, go ahead. Just call it "Celebrating Boca, a re-listen" or something like that. Or you could keep on reacting to the rest of their title tracks. It's all up to you. I'm sure all of us Insomnias would enjoy and appreciate any Dreamcatcher reaction you give us. PS: Dreamcatcher is due to have a comeback sometime next month.

Wow. Thank you for coming back with a Dreamcatcher reaction! Your reaction actually helps us on surviving the current drought before they will come back next month (they still haven't give any news, any dates yet). This song and the MV is magical. It's nice to re-experience the song again with you. Fun fact, one of their composer, Leez, have his own demo version of Deja Vu, sung by him, *one key higher* than the official DC version. I would like to see you reacting and commenting to the MV of BOCA tho. Titling them as "commentary" is definitely valid even tho you've already heard it. Also seconding the other suggestion on reacting to Wind Blows. To me, Wind Blows is a good summary of all the genres Dreamcatcher did in their music! Rock, EDM, sweet ballad bridge, chants, all in a cyberpunk-themed goodness. It's a side track so they don't have an MV for it, but there's a dance video (channel: Genie Music, title: Play Color 'Wind Blows'), a week of music show performances, and a chill live band version (channel: it's Live, title: 'Wind Blows' Band Live version) of it. I want to make a suggestion if I may since you are "visiting" SK on the channel once again... a South Korean Electronicore group called Synsnake and their song "Manneristic". I found this group a few weeks ago, and they are fantastic!! Their entire last album "Fluxus" is so good. Just keep in mind, they have nothing to do with Kpop, so you won't get these uber-pretty MV's, but I think you care more about the music at the end of the day anyway.

Hi Chase. I hope you're having a damn good day :) i'm glad to see you reacting again and I hope you're having a lot of fun with it, because I have it watching you react You've asked for recommendations, and there's a lot of discography to recommend haha. I don't know if you would be interested in reacting to a full album. I guess That's toooooo long for a comprehensive reaction like the ones you do (sorry, english isnt my native language, so I don't know if that would be the adecuate Word haha). But Dreamcatcher's álbum "Dystopia: The tree of language" is a masterpiece in terms of versatility and simply how to create an álbum and organise the songs inside to be cohesive even tho every song is different (maybe doing several partes for the reaction?) . It was choosen as 2020 álbum of the year in a lot of big websites that holded polls If thats too much, there is still a lot of title tracks mvs for you to watch. And some special videos for bsides too. You just have to ask a music genre you'd wanna listen to. Dreamcatcher discography has almost all of them haha. And its fsscinating that even the songs that strive away from their most typical rock sound, still sound like a dreamcatcher song. Thats all haha. And to think.... the so called "expert preferences" over at The Show gave this song a zero out of 1500 points and other miscalculations aside, if they gave them only 12 or more points they would have won 1st place. So, it was clear what their intention was. Rigged music shows... and they got away with it.

Dreamcather has been my favourite for a while and Deja Vu is an absolute banger, maybe the Best! Everything leads up to those choruses so beautifully and the choruses, oh boy, do they deliver. Just moves you in to all directions. I think I glanced a tiny bit of a wetting eyes for you in that second chorus and it was what happened to me also. Liberating feeling. I'm so glad we all get to celebrate music with you! Amazing thoghts and pointers like always.
