I like this as it really hits the sweet spot between pessimism/cynicism and fairy tale optimism. It shows that, while real life is messy and morality is complicated, you shouldn't overlook a healthy level of optimism. It really taught me as a kid that I should always chase my dreams, but also to not be surprised if my dreams are harder to achieve than I originally thought.

Disney absolutly kills it with this movie. The animation at the beginning is gorgeous and I want a full movie of it. Amy's acting is so spot on to her animated self, the father daughter relationship actually being a happy one and he's trying to encourage his daughter to be as empowered as can be (the martial arts and the book), the humor is hilarious, the dress designs are gorgeous (besides the last purple one ew), the fact that they didn't make Nancy a villain, the 4th wall break with the music, animals and all the disney references. I could go on and on. They seriously just nailed this movie. I'm so excited for the sequel!

By far my favorite Disney film. It was so well done. A long time ago I always suffered through the early Disney princess movies with my nieces. Then later on a had two daughters and a we went to see this. I thoroughly loved everything about it. The story, the music in the park, the older dancers (they are from Fiddlers on the Roof), it was just all too perfect.

*Fun Fact:* The part where Prince Edward jumps off the bridge and gets hit by the bikes was actually James Marsden’s idea. The director originally had him stumbling because of one biker bumping into him, but Marsden didn’t like the way it looked so he insisted to the director to have him just get hit straight on by a bunch of bikers instead of just one and simply getting bumped.

he is so underrated in this- everyone talks about Amy Adams, Idina Menzel, and Susan Sarandon, but James Marsden is absolutely perfect, he could have made Edward really unlikeable, and instead you root for him, too, which changes the stakes of the film (you don't want Giselle to get rid of some jerk, which is boring and makes things more predictable, but you want to see him get a happyish ending, too).

@@entertainmentlife430 isn’t it the same verse though he was singing at the beginning? That would mean Giselle is finishing someone else’s duet simply because that maiden isn’t there in the animated world. Also something that I noticed some years ago, that I hope others did, there’s a reason why Giselle couldn’t find the right lips for her statue. She basically could not think of anything in “her world” that would fit it. Not to mention, the statue clearly shows the outfit McDreamy is wearing at the ball. We are basically seeing that her true love is in our world, not in the animated world.

This movie is underrated masterpiece. As a kid I only watched it for fun, now I can see the positivity it wanted to showcase and all the bonus references we get of previous Disney princesses. Personally I wanted her to end up with Edward but I can see her perspective. She’s more of one to evolve and accept every aspect of life including her emotions so she just needs the right person to bring out that side of her, same with Robert. Edward on the other hand was a hopeless romantic same as Nancy. Edward just wants a nice partner while Nancy just wants an out of miserable reality and live a dreamy life which is a gateway to Andalesia. The makers of this movie did a great job with the colour contrast, settings, location, narration whilst executing things well according to their budget which is something they failed at doing in Descendants (for me personally). If you guys enjoyed it then please react to Ella Enchanted, Mirror Mirror, Princess Diaries 1&2, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, The Bridge to Terabitia, Ink Heart, Matilda.

And when Prince Edward is flipping through channels and lands on the soap opera, the woman in it is Paige O’Hara, the voice of Belle in Beauty and the Beast. If your wondering why the animation in the beggining is so good, its called the magic of James Baxter. Baxter is an absolutely incredible animation veteran that made some of the most beautiful animation in existence (he is still alive and working). He was the lead animator for that opening sceane, he also was the mane guy for Rafiki in the lion king, lead animator for quasimodo, started his carrear working in who framed roger rabbit, 2D opening of kung foo panda, guest animator in a bunch of productions and OH yes! Animated the dancing scene in beauty and the beast.

Additional fun-fact, Alan Menken is one of the composers for this movie. He worked on alot of disney renaissance films such as Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Hunchback, Hercules and around 3 years after this movie worked on Tangled. The production of this movie is essentially a live action love letter to the disney renaissance

I think it was to symbolise her wanting to adapt to the modern world for Robert and herself by wearing a modern dress while Robert was wearing prince outfit and ironically it’s the same outfit she made at the beginning of the movie with her animals, representing “her prince”. Not to mention her conflict of being torn between both guys that’s why purple cause red (Edward) + blue (Robert) equals to purple (Giselle). I do agree they could’ve worked more on the outfit even though they wanted it to be modern.

One of my favorite music, whimsical movies I don't like to say Princess movies so much lol. James Marsden was the highlight for me, to go from badass Cyclops to this goofy guy is the best. I like when people aren't type-casted. And I appreciate the animation to people style when usually it's in reverse like with Space Jam and Rock-a-doodle, James and the Giant Peach. So reverse is very nice. Hmm suggestions are my usuals Little Shop of Horrors Killer Klowns from Outer space although those could wait for October. Hmm ooh! Prince of Persia Luca And Fox and the Hound
