Reacting to FE5 Character Ratings by some scrub on Serenes Forest

Everyone wrote like this in the old school FE debate days. I think it's something that we did to fit in and be cool. Also even if you knew the game inside and out in 2009, some of the ratings would still be outdated because new strats get discovered that help or hurt units and change our perception of the game. You should take the piss out of my FE7 character ratings; I know for sure I did my boy Canas dirty on that one.

It's weird seeing you fall into pitfalls when talking about Canas, like comparing him to Erk and Lucius Also: "There's not a whole lot to gain from using Canas in an efficient playthrough." Though the rest of your rating hold up fine even today for the most part, maybe you were always ahead of the game

@@vanjagalovic3621 To be fair dondon is going from the perspective of only getting 1 Guiding Ring in a timely fashion (LTC) so Canas really is competing with Lucius and Erk. but yeah I've always thought that rating was the biggest thorn in those ratings.

Pretty much everyone wrote like that in forums period. Probably has to do with how the Something Awful forums had such a large influence on how people talked about games at the time, and you can find similar ways of writing from people who still post on SA.

The guy who made the guide is not that bad. His thinking is in the right place, despite some pitfalls. With some more experience, he'd actually be a pretty good player. If he created a YT channel, he could probably make guides about common FE misconceptions. You should invite that guy as a co-host if you can get in touch with him, Mekkah!

I couldn’t agree more with you statement near the end, doing an in-depth analysis of video games and their features and even rating how useful they are for the player is indescribably fun. I commonly do it with a friend with stuff like Kirby abilities and Mega Man weapons and I would never exchange the fun I have there for anything. Love these videos.

Marco Asturias I was referring to Mega Man 5’s terrible weapon, but when it comes to Kirby, yeah, stone is great at some bosses but can be terrible at times, Kirby 64 forces you to quit the transformation after a few seconds which removes almost all of its use, and the GBA Kirby games have some enemies and Mini bosses that refuse to leave you alone, so if you don’t take them out immediately, you are forced to take damage. D, maybe C tier on a good day.

I'm sorry to say, but I agree with old Mekkah, current Mekkah. It makes a lot more sense to take the Hero axe with you in Manster to get an additional great combat unit(in Dashin, who's horrible otherwise as we all know) during some of the toughest chapters in the game, rather than keeping it on Dagdar to make the two first turns of 8x easier. You've strayed, man. You've strayed. Also thank god nobody will ever look into the stuff I used to post 11 years ago.

The way I play Ch4 now (blocking all reinforcements) Brave Axe is definitely better since there's no real penalty for more treasure chests. But the way most people play I really recommend they minimize the number of chests. The only time where Dalsin's combat is really relevant imo is the first two turns of Ch4x so...which 2 turns of a gaiden map do you wanna make easier?

Even if we agreed that early 4x is the only place where it makes an undeniable difference. I tried vantage Olwen on my first play though and I thought she was amazing. I don't really think she's that good now but I still think Olwen is the best recipient of the vantage scroll. It's not very hard to train her up in ch14 because you can get her in range of Leif, Nanna and Fred for an extra 40hit (if Leif has the King Sword). If you do this with scrolls, preferably the Odo scroll for hit, she can become self-sufficient for later chapters, i.e. she won't need the supports. I know grinding is considered "casual" but it's ch14, what else are you going to do?
