When I read the Harry Potter series in French I laughed every time I read "baguette magique", which was approximately 3,000 times.

Same here! But recently I found that the word "baguette" is actually a "wand" or a "stick" in French. So the baguette bread is called "baguette" because it looks like a stick (therefore, a magic wand isn't called "baguette" because French people really like eating baguettes).

Haha that's funny. ^^ I'd never even noticed the parallel. Off the top of my head, other things that you'd call "baguette" without thinking at all about bread are drumsticks (as in the music kind. Not the chicken kind ^^. "Baguettes de batterie" or just "baguettes"), batons (for orchestra conductors, "baguette de chef d'orchestre") and chopsticks ("baguettes" or "baguettes chinoises"). It can also come up as a filler word for a variety of things in manual work (anything from just DYI craft projects to car maintenance or actual construction work). I'm sure there are proper technical words, but if it's long and thin, there's a good chance you'll just call it a "baguette" in that setting and not bother with the technical terminology. Like the manual oil gauge on a car, nobody would bat an eye if you called it a "baguette".

I’m French and we laugh about quatre vingt (four twenty ; eighty) when we learn the numbers all the children are looking at the teacher like that: 😑. Adults do it too. In France, people say « pomme de terre » but teenagers say « patate » that is more easy. For the class, YES I admit that it is a little strange ✨
