That nutty up B is called Tokyo Drift. It's completely bufferable and incredibly consistent. Do a short hop up air, then hold side B during jumpsquat. The short hop macro guarantees jumpsquat + a short hop first. After jumpsquat the special move overrides the normal aerial, but somehow the directions are buffered in the original order (up air becomes up B even though you're holding to the side). This gives you a frame perfect up special + full sideways momentum (from holding side B) for maximum drift. Slingshot was used to hurtbox shift and steal extra distance from the max ground speed jumpsquat frames.

@@WhiteKnuckleRide512 some tech that simply didn't catch on. Afaik is basically "burn your double jump and keep mashing the jump button to get free footstools, if the opponent attacks, they're stuck in the attack's lag and your jump is huge, so you can avoid the attack and punish it" But don't quote me on that, I really don't remember the phantom footstools really well
@ngotemna8875
@ngotemna8875 2 жыл бұрын
@@nicocchi So, Phantom Footstools didn't actually footstool the opponent (that's the phantom part) So the way it works is that you jump on the hurt box of the character doing an attack (Wolf up-air for example; you jump on his arm, not the purple claw swipe). Your lower body gains i-frames making the attack not hit you and you jump waaaaay above the opponent. The problem is that it's rather tight and if you miss it you get your double-jump taken because the attack you jumped on clipped you. Very high risk for relatively low reward.

I can't test it myself since I don't have a setup, and I'm worried that I won't be able to play it at a basic level if the slingshot is too necessary for competition and it's not possible to use it without using a jump button.

So I often come into Gimr videos completely lost. I'm only a casual player and rarely ever get the chance or motivation to practice. I don't have a particular character I main either; just sometimes mess around with Kirby while hanging out with friends. I have SD'd with Kirby plenty of times and never once was it a "Kirbycide" (intentionally, at least, lol). I have no idea of the technicalities or terms, or what "instant RAR" is and why everyone keeps comparing this to that. But I love watching this content and watching the meta grow and evolve. I follow so many Smash pros without understanding what they're even doing since if it looks cool onscreen, it's a good thing. :D And Gimr does a great job dissecting down what's going on in these breakdowns that even a casual like me can sorta understand. Thank you for all your work, sir!

I main Dedede and I’m fairly certain that he can’t b-reverse gordo toss. I believe that it probably is related to the fact that inputting angles during gordo toss changes the trajectory of the gordo, and they didn’t want you to accidentally turn around when trying to input a back-angled gordo. He also definitely is a special case in that you can affect air speed during the move, so you can drift while setting gordo angles. This is what allows the very useful ledge option of let go-> immediately jump->immediately side-b while holding towards stage. This gives you just enough momentum to land on stage as the gordo comes out (and it’s hard to challenge since dedede will instantly re-reflect the gordo if it gets hit right after he hits it)
