About Lily poisioning the well: 100% my experience as well. My sibling is a huge fan and kept asking me to watch SU. I felt indifferent? Like it was ok but not my cup of tea and I fell off at some point. Maybe my sibling hyped it too much and I had expectations, who knows. I stumbled upon Lilys video about it on accident and felt.. idk vindicated sounds a bit strong, but sorta like that and I disliked the show as a result. There was a video I watched wherein the messiness of wish was discussed, and apparently someone spilled the beans about the behind the scenes? The video was a podcast by some journalists so it’s not just some random KZbinr speculating. I don’t remember if it was from an interview or a leak but the basic rundown was: 1. The Director was a girl boss from the money side of Disney, not an artist/writer 2. Her creative vision was to cram in as many references to Disney films as possible 3. Anyone who tried to questioned that vision was booted from the team 4. The only thing she cared about wrt test audiences was how many references they caught and straight up ignored all the feedback of how the story was shit (did you notice?!?!?! that Asha’s dress has a pumpkin seed motif?!?!?! That kinda thing) The reasoning for the art style was fascinating and I think it’d be cool to see something that ambitious be done by a studio that gives a single solitary shit about little things like artistic integrity and giving employees enough time/control to create

I can tell you, as somone who watched Anthony Gramuglia's reaction to Lilly's 6 hours Pokemon video, Lilly can't even play Pokemon right. A game that even 5 y.olds. have beaten. She basically forces herself to use only Gardevoir, instead of a full team of 6, and fills the rest of her party with underleveled pokemons. She then either complains the game is too easy because she just kills eveything or too hard because everything kills her. What annoys me more about the whole Evil Avatar thing is that you could pull that off with the established ideas anyway. Make the Avatar someone who sees humanity as a vile mistake that needs to be eradicated all the while the person focuses on the balance of the nature and the world as a whole. A monster that has driven all of humanity into near extinction thanks to their powers all the while the reasons behind their actions are about a very absolute idea of balance and valuing nature. And then you could also introduce the topic of what will they do once this evil avatar falls? Everyone now fears the Avatar so what will they do once the reincarnation cycle continues? So a setup setting which then leads to the humanity eventually prevailing, which then creates an entirely new scenario about the reincarnated Avatar born into a world that hates them and probably wants to hunt them down. Lily's main problem to me that keeps coming back in all these videos is that she's incapable of understanding anything for what it is, only what she thinks it should be. What irritates me about the attitude around fusion is that no matter the characters and their relationships, ppl will always see the act itself as being a metaphor for sex rather than just representing a bond. It's honestly baffling. It's so goofy that Lily is this mad at Andy. Sure, hate the character all you want, but also it's a kid's show? The lesson is literally that people you disagree with can still grow and change. It's actually a super good moral for kids because the best outcome for, say, a gay child dealing with a conservative uncle, is for the uncle to actually chill out and rethink his beliefs a bit. And that's not going to happen if the child comes in on the attack all the time instead of trying to reach out to them because that makes people hunker down and get defensive about things. This is unironically the most one-to-one "This is how you can work out your differences and get to a better place" thing ever done in the most straightforward way possible. And Lily STILL cannot get behind it because her worldview is so black and white that she can't handle the idea of 'the bad guy' ever being anything other than pure evil. Being crappy to your cranky uncle isn't going to make things better for anyone, and at worst it could actually put a kid in real danger because, to that uncle, being different might already put the child on thin ice by their shitty standards. But you're going to be on WAY better terms with people if you open up first and try to work with them than if you just start antagonistic and never give them the chance to change. Sure, not everyone will understand. But cutting someone out of your life should be a last resort, especially if you're a kid and you don't have that much power over your situation in the first place.

@FandomGuy If your dad's alt right then you aren't going to have the power to do anything anyways. At that point, the only thing you can do is talk to other people that might be understanding and hope Child Services can do something. Because if they are hard committed anti-LBGT, then you're going to end up on the street or worse whether you try to appeal to their better nature or not. I think that's the point I keep coming back to, right? Like, sure, it's a scary situation and you shouldn't have to say anything if you don't feel safe. But if they find out, and they PROBABLY WILL, then you're going to be way better off if you at least try to put your best foot forward. At least if you're the one doing it, you can make sure they're on good terms with you first and show them that you trust them enough with coming out. All of that looks great on you and will make it harder for them to justify drastic action, even though it'll sometimes happen. If your parent isn't cool with it and they find out you're hiding things behind their back, then that looks WAY worse and it easily justifies them feeling like they're in the right to, as they'd put it, "punish you for doing something bad". Like I said, be smart and be safe. But I really do think it'd be a way more dangerous message to preach hate and fear around the people that almost every aspect of your life when things just really do not have to be that way and most adults can be reasoned with to look the other way when it comes to people they (presumably) actually cared about before they came out.

@FandomGuy Honestly, I feel like this is a bit of a weird issue with how these stories get out. Like people only really hear about the big dramatic stuff, right? People want help because they're in a bad situation or they want to emphasize how rough things can be, so they talk about people getting thrown out or the crippling Dysphoria or whatever, right? And, sure, those are all absolutely a problem, but it does give off a bit of a limited picture, right? You don't really hear about the people that came out and everything was fine with their relatives because if they change then there's not really a problem you'd need to talk about, right? It's just like how you never hear of people like me that just never recognized their Dysphoria until their late 20s because it wasn't strong enough to make me despise my body that outwardly, it just sort-of turned into depression and apathy. Like, here's my big question, right? Take any of those scenarios where people were thrown out or just disowned or whatever. Would any of those stories have gone worse if the queer person tried being open and empathetic over being confrontational? Because it's not a one size fits all solution, but I genuinely feel like trying to reach out first is just way better in most situations outside of, like, actual manipulator guilt tactics or something.
