You are a class act, Caleb. I find myself wondering if she bought all those bags to get views, and now she can get more views by being dramatic about downsizing her collection. Also, the stock videos are so cringe. One of the reasons I love your channel is that you truly appreciate bags for their craftsmanship, artistry, and let's not forget materials. Bags aren't always an appropriate topic of conversation in my everyday life, so it's so fun for me to connect with people online to geek out with.

I’ve been a luxury minimalist for years with a lifestyle more towards sustainable fashion and still found her video to be way over the top. I was confused at first because I technically share a lot of the values she touched on in her original video on the topic, but it truly felt so disingenuous and pretentious in a way that I genuinely struggled to put words to. It was like she learned about a topic a few weeks prior and instantly became a prophet spreading the word on concepts that she herself is still learning and shaming others in the process. It was exemplified in the video about personal style and hoping off the supposed hamster wheel, but the whole video was an advertisement for a jewelry brand. Like it’s comically insane.

I didn't know who she was either. You're very kind, Caleb. I found her video ridiculous, honestly. As you said, you can have a transformation without getting rid of your bags. Why is she even telling us? Why do we care? She also make a lot of generalizations about those who buy and love these items, which I found to be offensive. What I found most offensive was the insinuation that we buy these items to flaunt them to the world or that it's some status symbol. THE WORLD DOESN'T CARE! We only care because we are into this stuff. No one else cares. They don't. I was one of them before I got into this, and I never noticed once what bag someone was carrying. I agree. it doesn't sound like she was buying these items for the right reasons. Lastly, yeah, her young daughter might not know the differnce between a Walmart bag and a Chanel today. That was a silly statement.

I love the way you structured this so those of us who haven't watched her video (and won't) can see it along with your live reactions. I'm in the negative reaction/suspicious camp. She doesn't come across to me as genuine (I could be wrong, of course) and I wonder what's really behind this decision and, like you said, what else is going to change in her life. If the bags with logos have become so negative to her because they're status symbols then what other status symbols will she be purging (it seems like she has a lot of them)? Will she be downsizing her house? Trading in her car (I'm assuming she has a fancy one) for a Nissan? Shopping at Walmart for clothes and bags now? Also, I have little respect for people in their 20s or later who are just now realizing that material things and the opinions of others are not what is actually important in life. And to your point, you can live a healthier life (be a good person, as you said) and still have fancy bags. They're not mutually exclusive. Good for her if she's finally realizing this but what the heck took so long? There's definitely more beneath the surface.

Caleb, you were so kind , non-judgemental during this video. You are such a class act and I absolutely love that about you. My take is that she bought those bags, clothes, jewelry and shoes in order to "fit a role" she had in her head; rather than buy the things she has/had because she loved them. It's so easy to fall into that trap, given the emphasis on material things these days. I've seen others get caught up with that nonsense. It didn't make them happy. Having the latest, greatest, shiny things in order to fit what one believes to be the image of a successful person is exhausting and it's a game no one wins. I'd much rather enjoy what I buy than care about what others think. I learned that lesson decades ago. Life has been much better since I rejected that mindset of having the "right" things as far as fashion/accessories/shoes.. I wear what I like and get things I love. Life is far too short to do otherwise. I love fashion in general, but I really love handbags and shoes. I go for what fits my personal style and I go for quality. I don't care what the "hot, it bag" is; if I love a bag and can afford it; I'll get it. If it happens to be a popular item, cool. If not, also cool, as I know what I like. I'm buying handbags, shoes, accessories and clothing for me to enjoy, no other reason.

So, the one thing I didn’t quite understand was when she talked about being on this journey and then asking people to join her. @b.abouttowwn8 ай бұрын
This is a valid point. It might however, be a result of her sharing that she is tired of owning bags because of status, yet still owning a great number of items that render the same results, if we are speaking about luxury items. The construct of luxury and exclusivity does not start and stop at bags. If you aren’t into bags anymore then why keep any of the bags? I literally see her repeating the bag shuffle in her video. Is she selling them all, donating them all? I agree folks do not have to be rude about their opinions, but I see why individuals feel like she is being inauthentic. IMHO.

First, your kindness shines through in your commitment to maintaining a positive and uplifting atmosphere on your channel. It's refreshing to see content creators like you prioritize spreading positivity and encouragement. Keep up the great work! I see both sides of this conversation. I absolutely DO think that for SOME people, luxury goods can perpetuate status-seeking behaviors. This isn’t isolated to handbags. For example, many men buy expensive luxury custom suits to project an image of success and authority, leveraging the perception that well-tailored attire reflects professionalism and competence. Investing in custom suits can signal attention to detail and convey confidence, potentially enhancing social and professional standing in competitive environments. This type of thing can manifest in all sorts of luxury goods. Certainly this is NOT the case for everyone. It also does NOT necessarily elevate to toxic consumerism. Though, I can also see how setting up a closet like a store, like hers, can also contribute to a cycle of buying to maintain a curated appearance. I can also see how it could become overwhelming…. Although, I would love a closet like that myself. 😂 Either way, I support her ability to speak her mind. I had never heard of her before this controversy, and I probably won’t follow her because her content isn’t necessarily what I like. But I don’t feel compelled to tear her down on the points that we disagree on. ☺️

Caleb I am loving your content. Niki and similar influencers are on "trend" these days. The luxury market and the mystique is drying up. Most of us are nowhere in their stratosphere of shoes, handbags, luxury gifts, commercials, overconsumed designer stuff, getting "flewed out" for promotions, etc. Basically, it was their job to influence us on what is luxury. As these influences age, change life direction with kids/family, lose their benefactors, just grow old, decide there's more to life than shopping; the rest of us got hit hard with the economic downturn and shopping addiction around the "cv" word. I'm glad these influencers are changing direction. It shows growth. I agree that your children/grandchildren might not hold the same value on these bags. I never bought any thing in my life thinking of selling. I find this type of mentality very scary. People should buy things because they truly like and will wear. I see all products this way and luxury is not exception. I don't think it's healthy for things to gain value over time. I have nothing against selling second-hand things, but at least they should be sold at half price or at fair prices, as I don't think it's fair for something that has already been used to be worth more than its purchase price as new. I think it's really absurd. I wear all my Louis Vuittons and I never plan on selling them. They are part of my journey, they symbolize my passion for quality and they enhance any look I wear! I don´t care at all about the status, I don´t care if I look poor or rich wearing this things, I don´t care if people like it or not. Idk why she made this video tbh. If she feels the need to get rid of her entire collection, for whatever reason, she should do that. I've felt overwhelmed at times too, and sold or even given away bags. But I wonder why she felt the need to tell us. On Connor's video, I commented about the irony of making a video like this while sitting in a custom closet, in (what I assume is) a mansion, while random plebians in the background pick up her bags and shoes off the floor. I can't take it seriously. She also makes some very broad generalizations. I buy bags because I love them. Not because I think they make me look rich. Or because I want to keep up with other people. I live in Wisconsin. If I wanted to impress people I'd buy a $70k pickup truck, not a handbag. Sounds like she bought into the influencer lifestyle. Or maybe she has people around her whom she feels like she has to keep up with. Either way, do you, but don't put that on the rest of us.

This influencer was not somebody I followed and not really sure how or why her story showed up in my FYP, but it was interesting because I, too, had just reached a moment in my life where I felt the need to simplify the things around me. The easiest thing to control is those material things in your surroundings that are not really being put to use because it provides an instant sense of gratification to see the space come back where it was once occupied by something. The reason why I have gotten here, personally, was due to a series of family deaths, including my dearest father that has greatly impacted my sense of self. I’m questioning everything that once made me happy and took up my time. More importantly, speaking, took my time away from others in my life. I don’t know if sudden epiphanies from these KZbinrs is valid or just a marketing ploy but I think it’s important to remember that at the end of the day, these are still just people going through their life journeys and should be allowed to pivot and change their minds and it should have no reflection on ourselves who are watching. I think a lot of people are triggered by this right now because the truth of the matter is, and something that a lot of us don’t want to admit, is that we have somehow been influenced by others to try to live those perfect Instagram lives, and these things that we think will make us happy. We think we’ve been duped and don’t like that feeling and I get that. But I also think it’s fine to recognize when something does not work for you and you step away from it. I think people just need to, continue to live their lives according to whatever makes them happy and just let others do what they need to do. Yes, her closet looked lovely, but if all it inspired, when she walked in there was anxiety, then maybe those shelves should be lined with books or pictures or something different. I think people will be just fine, we all just need to relax.

Those reasons she mentioned why she’s giving up her luxury items, are the reasons that is affecting her personal well being. As of now that doesn’t apply to me. Although I love luxury bags that don’t have a big logos and logo prints in them, I love it because of their qualities and how well made the majority of them. I agreed with you that she might have a different reasons and purposes why she bought her luxury items that is now affecting her. Thanks for the video. I hope she can find what she’s looking for…

I think it’s very normal to go through change. I use to LOVE makeup. I saved up for it, I made a vanity with a huge lighted mirror, I watched tons of videos on it. Loved it!! Now I couldn’t care less. That vanity is almost empty and I buy the makeup I need but not really any extra. I also don’t watch anything about makeup or keep up with the trends. I think she is just going through a change and because her channel was about luxury for so long she had to explain why it won’t be about luxury anymore.

I always say to each their own! I agree with you that I think she bought all those things for the wrong reasons. I have a few luxury bags, but most are contemporary and I love them. Again like you, I buy what I like and don't care about status or what anyone thinks about it. I do question her motivation and what's really behind this drastic change but we will probably never know!

Speak about the algorithm! lol! She makes some good points; especially about the investment part and buy it because it brings you joy. But a lot of her points maybe apply to her (like the status symbol etc) but not for us all. I appreciate her points at face level; if that makes sense. Great reaction video, Caleb!

Really agree with the points you made about why she bought the bags in the first place. It seems like her reasoning for buying most of these bags was based on status and what other people thought. Given this, I can understand how she got to this place. I didn't appreciate the "preachy" vibe of the video and the assumption that other people buy bags for the same reasons she did.

It may be my favorite upload of yours. So, it was very well done, reacting thoughtfully and in detail. Life is and should be evolution. I don’t have an issue with her video and choices. I welcome anyone who is upfront with how they want to prioritize their life. Just remember, if you are having a visceral reaction to anything, that is YOUR stuff, not the person you are watching. I happen to be in a period where I am ridding of items I bought with a different mindset, but instead, I am repurchasing with absolute joy and happiness. Sometimes, that is a “luxury” item; sometimes, it is as simple as going to the Target dollar section.

I got into watches ten years ago, I went through a few Rolex, Omega, Tudor and a few other mid tier brands. I am not a collector. I don't collect anything. It's just my personality. I currently have two Omega's and one Rolex. I will probably never buy another watch again. I look, but just don't feel the need, desire to buy. I also love guns. Same thing, I have a few and just don't buy, won't buy more. But I do relate to that collecting craziness. When I get into something I overdose and then back off. Some people don't. I get it.

You have handled this in a very fair way. I think we have to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Kids change you. The pandemic changed us. For me, retirement changed me and gave me an almost frantic need to get rid of most things and have a very manageable home, kitchen and closet. The economy is surely changing us. In reality it doesn’t matter if the motive is genuine or not…it’s a moment in time and each person does what they feel is necessary. I tend to believe everyone going on this downsizing “pilgrimage” is genuine in their intentions because I personally have such a visceral need to declutter. Sometimes it just hits you that stuff doesn’t matter that much. 🤷🏼♀️. It’s liberating to not have to organize and store so many things. It’s also nice to see the money saved

I highly agree there is a lot going on “under the waters” as you said. This video makes me immediately go to the fact that she must be going through marriage issues. Call me jaded but I feel this is a conversation she must be having with her spouse. That she completely went into her purchase for all the wrong reasons in the first place. Yeppers I believe there is an ulterior motive in this video. I haven’t watched it in full just reaction videos. I am extremely Leary of large channels it’s hard to gauge sincerity. TFS 🛍️👛🚢🙏🦆

I think we live in very critic and scary times. People should avoid being rid of luxury things that they love so much in the past and now, and don´t fall into fashions shifts and trends because more later, this logo bags will be trending again. And let´s be honest: Louis Vuitton monogram, Chanel logo in classic flaps or Gucci GG are true classics and will be always on trend! Even if "quiet luxury" or some stupid discreet and intemporal trend (that always existed but people need to pull out new names), this type of logos and bags will resist passage of time! I fear for all the people that will fall into this "false discoveries", or "new journeys" because this is the same shit of minimalism years ago. People will regret sooner of later and wish that the things that they threw away come back again! Sorry, I think this is bullshit...

.. my opinion about her video is: she speak about her experience pure from A INFLUENCER SIDE..filling the void / competing with each other etcetera.. so i think she was tired of that on youtube.. seeing other luxe youtubers maybe buying more or more often than her, maybe buying better more expensive things as her and maybe that made her tired and now she selling everything..no outsider (no not influencer will ever say/do this ) iam sure she was buying for the wrong reason/ to compete and got tired of it.. to me what she is doing is very extreme... and maybe she needs money or has mental issues thats why she is selling everything. ah ja to me, it doesn't really make any sense .. bc she still walking around with VC jewellery and keeps some luxe bags but without a logo.. but that still is luxury and people will recognise the model of the luxury brand bag.. also what she will buy now.? zara .? .. i just dont get it.. LOL

Great video! I think this "disinterest" in luxury is also a trend. In the same way it was a trend for these SAME people to buy luxury in the first place. A lot of people do it to feel worthy or valuable. As oppose to TRULY having an interest or passion for fashion. If these are your reasons then yes you won't be satisfied. Insecurity is an internal issue. Materials won't fix that. Hence why these people still feel less whole after attaining these items. As for me, I'm buying my first very special ( exotic or blue Jean ) birkin soon I only purchase things that I am absolutely in love with🥰

Maybe it’s my cynicism, but this feels disingenuous to me. If she wants to sell her bags, go for it, but why the video? What’s her goal? To “convert” others? Why the fanfare? And make no mistake, this is fanfare. She contradicts herself by wearing labels while preaching about labels while in a multimillion dollar home. I’m not buying what she’s selling. It’s not what she says but how she says it. It comes across as patronizing and “holier than thou.” It’s like when new cult members get indoctrinated and start talking down to people who “haven’t seen the light.” I never followed her so I never cared about her journey. Her language is also very aggrandizing especially when she says renaissance. I can see why people are put off by it. At first there’s nothing wrong with what she says if you take her comments at face value but when you look at her word choice and her assumptions about what buying luxury means and note that there are conflicting statements and actions then it seems really fake and insincere. It seems like she did key word search and made this fake skit about having a revelation to get views. While I agree people change their viewpoints I find this really insincere and just intended to pivot her channel to another more profitable niche.

I think at some point all of us takes some steps to try something different and we get to a point where it becomes preachy. I feel like she was a little preachy. For example, I have had friends try out a new diet like veganism and they have become preachy to everyone about their decisions and how everyone is doing it wrong and their way is right. After awhile, if someone has done something for awhile they become less preachy or they go back to their old way of doing things. I in the past have tried minimalism and it didn't last long but I was also preachy about how its bad for the enivronment, consummerism, etc. To anyone who listened. I also wanted to add that thing about passing things down doesn't mean the other person wants it. I tried to give my teenage niece an expensive handbag and she told me its not her style and didn't want it. Buy things because you enjoy them and will use them.

Her video was just sad because she's seems like she's battling a shopping addiction or an addiction to status bags, which can easily bankrupt you if you're not finance savvy. Her life seemed meaningless outside of her collection and this is the only way to take control back. I can't really relate. There's some bags that I won't let go of for as long as I live, even if I do reach an "Hermes status". To me, the bags are art. I could easily frame each and every one and never carry it again and I'd still take pride in having it becuase it's art. It's makes me feel something. That's how much they mean to me. However, bags alone don't make me happy. They aren't supposed to. They're things. You have to ask yourself, who are you collecting for? Seems like she was doing it for others' approval of her instead of herself.

I see nothing wrong with her wanting to be so materialistic. I think if anyone is insulted or offended by her choices than maybe they should take a look inward and figure out why. So what …people change all the time. I think her exaggeration is her trying to make a point. This world needs to stop always trying to make a problem where there isn’t one. She is right. It sounds to me her decision now is about decisions and choices she made in the past that we’re not genuine to her. The “why” are you doing what you’re doing? It seems these are questions she should’ve reasoned out before she got to this point! I hope she finds the peace she needs!

What is she blabbing on about? All of this "my life is shit because I have luxury handbags/clothes" is absolutely asinine. Define, define, blah, blah, blah. She doesn't want the prominent logo because that is no longer "in fashion" - it's all about "quiet luxury" as we know. Hence, the logo sell off. When you get home at the end of the day, do you dwell on every handbag you saw people carrying? And as a PS: women have been in competition with each other from day 1. In every single way. It's just the way of the female world.
