There’s the 5 lies you touched upon, her comments about competition ( ummm what?), the herd (insulting/ judgmental). I think it’s telling going from one extreme to the other. Recently her best performing video called: “I got rid of everything”- 162K views. It explains everything. 😅 She made money on KZbin and grew her channel by buying expensive luxury things that she didn't like and just to show off, now she thinks no one is interested in it anymore and she has changed direction. I feel false and impunity, a person does not bear any responsibility for manipulating the audience, and then calls it “growth” and encourages the audience to do the same. Totally agree Connor. I wished I hadn’t watched it as I eye rolled all the way through. Even though she said she wasn’t judging others etc it felt judgmental to me. There’s nothing worse when someone makes a change and has seen the light and patronises everyone around them as if they are better somehow. I think it’s the underlying issue that person has that needed addressing. Throwing away all your bags won’t change that. Having said that it made me giggle that she’s happy to sell her bags to her audience who she is telling these bags are evil! I think it’s so extreme to get rid of everything. I understand curbing spending going forward etc but to get rid of everything! 🤔 hope it’s worth the views as she might be regretting it! Also I didn’t understand the issue re logo bags and non logo. The most interesting part of the video was her reference to women being in competition. I've never felt competition as a motivation for style or purchases. If she did, it must have been exhausting. I think her video is intended for gen z fashion girls & guys who just want to follow trends. Not genuine handbag enthusiasts. I consume loads of youtube fashion content and the stuff she was saying is spat out loads in videos investment, timeless etc so to the audience I think its intended for I think are likely to resonate with her list of ‘lies’. I think people who buy a bag to ‘keep up/ status symbol’ are more likely the people who buy fakes anyway. I noticed it when she did her Birkin unboxing and she titled it “unboxing the rarest handbag in the world” and it was only a Birkin 35 etoupe lol. That’s actually an easy bag to get. I’ve been offered it a few times simply as a walk-in. Then I watched more of her videos and she just seems to do clickbait and forced videos to get more views. There’s also something condescending about her saying she “woke up” or feels more enlightened by getting rid of the few clothes and handbags she has… when there are world leaders and mothers who have done more in their life than her but they still have a large collection of luxury bags, shoes, clothes, etc. What does she even actually do other than being a momfluencer?

Ha! I love this reaction. I completely agree. My close friends and family think I’m crazy with my handbag obsession, so my purchases are certainly not to impress them. It’s for me!! And yes, I plan to pass all my bags onto my daughter, but she’s 21 and loves bags also and it’s never been a justification for me to buy a bag.

I am so glad someone is addressing this BS video... I never liked her video because she is one of those influencers saying--certain things are do over-done and you shouldn't wear this or that anymore... That video made me cringe... Have this moment in silence. I don't want to attack her but I can never get through her videos for that reason. She's like Lydia Millen. I enjoyed her videos when I first started to watch--then she turned into this perfect little english countryside girl... Kate Middleton wannabe. Trying way too hard...

My immediate thought with the "dramatic" opening and title was that it was satire! I wonder if it has to do with trying to stay relevant as a brand because maybe the numbers are showing lack of engagement due to lack of relevancy? I've never seen her before but the vibe felt disingenuous like the thought was, "Ok being super rich and living luxuriously isn't hitting the same. Let's try minimalism and no logos."

It’s a trend, it may be genuine but what you said it’s true. We need to be careful with our words when we have such a big audience. Let everyone follow their own journey. For someone who just started luxury it’s may be a bummer. It’s unfair to influence people to buy then not to buy. Who can keep up? I just watch these things and keep going….i love my CC Classic flaps and other brands that show some logo. I also have have items with no brand. I like balance in my collection.

I totally agree with all the points you made. I haven’t watched Niki Sky’s whole video - the clip you showed was enough for me! But I’m heartily sick of these influencers who were prolific over-consumers a week ago, suddenly lecturing about materialism. It won’t surprise me, if in 18 months time, all the stuff they supposedly got rid of starts to re-emerge from storage and they start wearing it all again. Good luck to them all with her epiphanies, but it’s a personal journey, not one they should be preaching to others about.

So many truths here. I had initially liked her comment abut the investment myth. Listening to you now I agree 💯- I have never actually thought I was making an investment into anything but my greedy happiness. I just hoped I would be able to resell without a major loss if I did end up hating on a mini Kelly that doesn’t even fit my freakin phone. Shopping at Chanel, the SA told lady next to me she will pass the 12k bag on to her daughter and the lady said: “what, why, they have jobs”.

Great job Connor. ☘️My own reaction, is, all these Enneagram Type 3 personalities like Niki, are not worth my time. The 3s are always: Overstretching, always wanting to be visually visible and seen by all others to be "successful". Type 3s are the typical "Go Getters", but they ironically and truly is of the enneagram who actually fares WORST of all enneagram in feeling self worth, because they have none: their sense of self-worth come from external source. Whatever they do, they need people to watch them, and clap for them. They are still themselves. They won't change. Leopards won't change their spots. I avoid Type 3 people in my life as my friends. David Fauvre also expounds the Type 1-4, and Type 5-9 in his enlightening Enneagram videos. Deception is the key passion of all type 3s. Way to go Connor. This video of yours is IMPORTANT.

I grew up in a home with a modest income. Always had the essentials, but never 'luxuries.' It took me until my 30's to -- be able to own a home and afford to get nice things for myself. And there's still a long way to go. But 've come to view, more negatively than positively, minimalism and the quiet luxury movement that succeeded it. As one article argued, why should a person -- especially women, LGBTQ, and BIPOC folks -- who have had to work harder for success, have to hide it? Why shouldn't they outshine the guy who's been wearing the same polo shirt for 10 years? And same goes with handbags. Sure, we can take the luxury lifestyle too far, but minimalism seems to take it too far in the exact opposite direction.

It was super dramatic. Even cinematic. Lots of eye rolls were given from me. The part that made me really role my eyes was she has a “staff” packing up her lux bags to sell in the background all while advertising jewelry in the middle of the video! Like what? I completely agree! I've only seen her take due to reaction videos like yours. I unsubscribed to her ever since she posted videos about what "classy women" wear or what's out of style. She's always had a judgey air to her. Always going with what is the trend or what is most popular. Seems like I was right about her all along! I'll stick to the real luxury lovers who aren't here to judge each others purchases but are here to geek out about luxury brands...it's not that serious people!

What's even stranger is all of her followers, followers of a channel that promotes luxury bags, clothes and jewellery, cheering her on. Isn't luxury what they were there for from the beginning? Truely a cult if they just follow in whever direction the wind blows her. What's the reason for this? Are they happy that she got rid of everything and is now one of them? Twisted.
