I think people underestimate how hard it is to achieve jump scare movies l, without a visual entity throughout the movie. The atmosphere you create is more important than actually seeing something. I like the first 3 movies. I wouldn’t bother with the last one! It was terrible.

@@FarikoWishless @joosee1803 I did think 2 was quite good too but I think due to having seen the first one it kind of lost its "scariness" for most of the movie, like the buildup wasn't really that scary to me. That being said, the basement stuff was scary af, that I will agree! I also liked how it circled back into the first movie. The third was even less scary but again still had quite a few cool scenes, like the rotating camera. I also liked how we got a bit more info on Katie's background since it's a prequel ^^ I think over time the movies got quite convoluted tho, especially from 4 onwards. There were some cool things like using a Kinect's tracking for instance, but still, they went really overboard haha

I think they shot the movie in the director's or producer's house, and most of the budget went toward renovating his house so they could film in it. So basically, the guy got his house renovated for thousands of dollars and didn't have to pay out of his own pocket for it. 😄 Also, the ending was changed per the suggestion of Steven Spielberg himself. The movie initally had a different ending, but the movie was screened for Spielberg and he suggested changing it by having Micah's body get thrown at the camera, knocking it down, and having Katie lunge toward the camera with her twisted demon face.

@@kathecamargo This is what I could find of the original aneding: Katie returns to the bedroom alone, covered in blood and holding a large kitchen knife. She sits on the floor against the bed and rocks back and forth. The next day, Katie's friend Amber leaves a concerned message at 2 PM, visits the house at 9 PM, discovers Micah's body downstairs, and runs away in panic. 30 minutes later, two policemen enter the house and reach the bedroom where they find the possessed Katie with the knife. Seeing them, Katie suddenly returns to her normal state and asks about Micah. After the attic door slams by itself, one of the officers panics and shoots and kills her. The camera fades to black as the police officers continue searching the house for the source of the sound. An epilogue text appears dedicating the film to the memory of Micah and Katie.

okay you guys I can explain since I'm one of these weird ass people who prefer that over closed doors (usually at least). First thing to note I live with my parents and we live in a rather small flat not a house. Maybe that changes things. And second thing is that I'm in general quite afraid of the dark because of some creepy experiences I've had as a kid. So,the thing is for me at least having the door open gives me,as weird as it is, a sense of security because I can easily hear every single noise in our flat and can easily tell known sounds from unkown. Then I sleep basically facing the door and If something/ someone would be approaching I'd be able to hear them/ see them coming and would be able to react. There is not this ''fear of the unkown lurking behind your door'', and that also calms my nerves. Then on the other hand I also don't feel as isolated as If my door was closed and If something/ someone would be in my room I'd be able to scream and would easily be heard by my parents. Soo yeah.. I hope that helps 😂

As a 36 year old, it’s really neat seeing two young men take issue with so many things in regards to how this guy treated his girlfriend and just his insensitivity in general. Most guys seeing this movie when it premiered in 2007 did not pick up on those things at all and saw nothing wrong with dude’s behavior. You guys give me hope for my daughter. Everyone is always talking down about your generation and how you’re spoiled and entitled etc and it drives me nuts. I have a problem with Micah's behavior strictly from a writing perspective - he's such an inconsiderate, obnoxious screwup that it actually feels like he was deliberately written that way to just cause problems and further the story. And it actually makes Katie look worse by comparison simply because she elected to stay with him. I hate one-dimensional characters already but I especially hate it when they're so transparently designed just so a movie can progress.

I love found footage horror, and that the goofball boyfriend didn't leap out of bed but then snag the camera made it so satisfying. I love this film! I am a huge horror fan and I have to admit that this one got me the first time I watched it. I watched it in my living room with my two siblings and it was the best experience, the idea of it building so slowly and the events being so subtle to begin with added so much tension. Me and my siblings would be staring so intensely at the screen looking for something to happen and helping each other out by pointing out what was happening if one of us couldn't see it. It's one of the few films all three of us agree on, and at the end none of us could leave the room alone, following each other up the stairs to the bathroom and talking to each other loudly through the door just in case! 😆 One of the best experiences I've had in horror films.

I watched this in the evening, with my two (at the time) best friends, in one of their basements, on their large TV with decent surround, in middle school or perhaps grade 9... To this day, the absolute scariest part of this movie, is whenever the clock on the night recordings would slow down, just because it meant something was going to happen, and we had no idea as to WHAT would happen... Besides that though, we quickly came up with a way to make the entirity of the movie seem way less scary - The demon was actually a small raptor who was learning how to pogostick. Hence the scratches, hence the banging around/falling down stairs noises (fell off the stick) and the swinging chandelier (bounced too high and bonked it's head) Hahaha. It was a stressful movie, one I still can't watch in the darkness or alone, but having those friends around for the first watch made it a fun kind of stressful.

I've only seen this once before, and that was the original theatrical run. And I've never seen the sequels, but I'm looking forward to experiencing them through your reactions. One thing though. I had to laugh every time you mentioned sleeping with their feet out of the covers, because I do that all the time. If I get too warm , but not enough to throw off the cover completely, I'll stick a foot (or both) out, and that balances my temperature beautifully. Then, if my feet get cold, I might pull them back in. But if someone were filming me asleep at night, they'd probably see at least one foot out most of the time. Keep up the great work guys.

This is a fantastic concept for a movie franchise. It's so subtle, yet scary AF. Your eyes are glued to the screen, looking for every little minute detail, straining your ears to hear everything. You have to admire the unsung heroes (the continuity folks). For most movies, the audience aren't glued to the surroundings, so you can get away with things like the clock being the wrong time between shots, or the placement of an ornament on a shelf.

Sorry, James, if I am too vocal in the comments. I just noticed something else, though. We see Katie begin to show obvious signs of possession partway through. But, at the beginning when the psychic talks with her. She says "no one was hurt in the fire thank go- thank goodness". Now, maybe I'm not hearing the "d" in "god" but it almost sounds like she couldn't say the word, so she said "goodness" instead. And it's not uncommon in the Paranormal world for demons to have issues with saying the word "god". Maybe that was a mistake on the actress and they just left it in. But, he's a psychic and she's an average person so referencing god wouldn't be weird.

I'm only 9 minutes in when they talk about the whispering- When I was a kid and went to sleep, id hear whispers overlapping each other constantly but I never said anything because I honestly thought it was normal. they went away eventually. Then in high school, I'd always stay home alone and started hearing my name being called out in whispers. Some were faint but some were a bit harsh, I also didn't really think anything of it. I'd feel like I was being watched all the time. I also never gave it any attention and they both went away. Now that we've moved into the apartment my aunt passed down to us, I've been waking up during the night feeling like someone or something has been watching me but like usual I'd just ignore it. The crazy thing is, that my aunt would always claim to hear things. Same as my grandmother before she passed away- so at this point I'm just used to it that it doesn't even bother me anymore😭😭

in my 20s i lived in a haunted apartment. every so often i'd wake up in the middle of the night to the sensation that someone just sat down on my feet. The bed would sink in and everything. it was fucking weird

I was showing my mom this movie and my dad doesn’t like horror, so he wasn’t watching. He came up and was doing chores in the kitchen and Micah was talking and and my dad came over and asked to see what the guy looked like. Turns out he knew him from college. Not going to say anything about the guy, but it was a pretty funny story.

I don’t usually leave comments, but I just really enjoy your reaction videos recently. First I started watching reaction to the movies I’ve seen, but now I see that you’ve uploaded a new reaction to the movie I have never heard of, and I am so addicted to your channel, that i watch a new movie that I didn’t even plan, just to see your videos 🥲 Also, I wanted to recommend you The autopsy of Jane Doe, it’s a great horror movie, it’s so disturbing that it’s definitely one of the best horrors i’ve ever seen.

You were right this movie didn’t cost much to produce, it actually is one of the most profitable movies in the history of horror cinema, it cost 15k USD to produce and earned a little over 163 million dollars. It was produced by Blumhouse by the way, I know you’re used to them by now and it essentially set the company’s direction being producing films at low budget and making them essentially blockbusters, it was also the case for The Purge, the first at least, which was produced with 3 million USD and earned a little over 90 million USD, still not as profitable but Paranormal Activity essentially defined their business plan.

as a horror movies fan, i love all your horror movies reactions. Would you guys interest in lesser known horror movies, as in they aren't viral like this one or people talk about alot like conjuring or insidious but still, they're incredibly good?! i recommend 'The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)' and 'mara (2018)'. I don't see many people know or even react to them but they're really freaky.

I never got a chance to watch this film because my friends and family totally discouraged me to watch it saying it isn't a good movie. I am glad though that I watched it with you guys, I had to turn on the lights in my room though, lol. The ending could have been a little better. The twist in the 2004 Thai horror movie 'Shutter' was really freaky in comparison. I have only really liked one horror movie recently which gave me the real creeps and chills and that's a Taiwanese movie 'Incantation'. It's on Netflix. This was another great reaction!

I remember this was one of the first horror movies I watched on my own, back when I was... maybe 13? It freaked me out HARD. There's this series of horror movies called VHS that I highly recommend, although they can get a little hardcore 🤣

I've watched all the movies, and the first three are the best. If you want the whole story, watch 4 and The Ghost Dimension. They're not as good but not bad by any means. DO NOT WATCH THE MARKED ONES. Not worth your time, it's kind of like final destination 4. You won't miss anything interesting. Adding more to this. But I'm remembering why I don't watch the first one often. Micah. You'll definitely like the next more. Minus one thing but I can't spoil the plot. Trust in the series, until you don't enjoy it anymore.

Great reaction. #2 and #3 are also good and follow the same family. I know some don't agree, but I like #2 the best and is ingeniously tied to the original. I won't say much else; better to be surprised. You can honestly skip #4 onward, with the exception of The Marked Ones, which is only loosely tied to the original family but good as its own story.

If you don't both jump out of bed, turn on all the lights and shout, scream yell no matter what you're wearing or not as it's more likely to be an intruder not expecting to get caught or an animal. Great job reacting to a classic! 😊 My favorite horror/thriller movies I suggest are: Devil 2010 (my favorite whodunnit), The Uninvited 2009 (best plot twist I’ve ever seen!), Searching 2018 (takes place on a laptop but so effective), Oculus 2013 (a movie about a haunted mirror but not so corny), and Orphan is good cause the prequel came out recently :) I also recommend several episodes of Black Mirror, which also have many happy ending episodes!
