Fun fact: the megaphone was just a prop and they didn't tune Mitch's voice. He can just do that. (I've heard them live and he sounded exactly the same without it) Also, they worked on the song for 5 years before recording it. They wanted to get it perfect, and boy did they!

I just listened to an interview where Scott was asked what the hardest song of theirs to sing was. He said this song- not because of the notes but when they get down “ishmila no we will not let you go” part. Mainly because he is in the middle and has sing both sides and I can totally see why. If he loses the rhythm it slows down or something, they’re screwed. I’ve been to eight concerts and I’ll be honest, the first ones I went to when they sang this- it was still good probably comparable to the video. But the next year when they sang it again, it blows this out of the water! When you see the security guys banging their heads at an a capella concert, you know it’s something special 😂

The starry sky in the background during Mitch’s last “guitar solo” is an homage to Dr Brian May. I like that they paid homage to the original but still made it their own. Brian May has actually shared this on his social media a couple of times with the caption “Enjoy”. Very informative reaction, thanks. You seem to understand and appreciate what each individual member brings to Pentatonix. I think the brilliance of this group is the talent that each member brings. They were lucky they found Matt who has filled in nicely for Avi....but each bass has added a little different sound to the group....a good sound, but definitely different imo.

People like to tell reactors that the megaphone was just a prop and the guitar solo sounds the same live. ...It was a prop used to signify the distortion added to Mitch's voice in the recording. The live performances sound arguably as good (I agree!) but not necessarily exactly the same. I'm just saying that because you mentioned the distortion effect and that's absolutely true, Kevin verified it. Brian May shared this video on his social media when it was released... so at least the living members of Queen enjoyed it!

When they perform the song live, Mitch's mic is slightly distorted by the sound engineer during the performance. The distortion effect on the live shows is not as heavy as on the recording.

I don't know whether anyone in comments has discussed their process for developing an arrangement. You'll be pleased to know that they usually start with beats from Kevin. Then the bass (Avi or Matt) is added, then some background harmonies are layered on (like this "piano notes" in this one), and the lead comes last. When they have the rough arrangement down to their satisfaction, they send it off to Ben Bram to be finished and polished. You will see Bram's name included on the roster for their Grammy awards; sometimes he's described as the "sixth member of Pentatonix.

@@JoshCastillo what he said is true! We Pentaholics have listened to each Pentatonix song AT LEAST 10 times when the song is first released (the first time to hear the song, the next 5 times to listen to each member individually, then twice more to watch/listen to our favourite, then twice more to just listen to it). Then, we’ll have it on repeat in our various playlists! So, we’ve heard the song! 😄😄 We WANT to hear what you have to say, so even if you have to stop 4,5,6 times or more, we want to hear what you have to say! PTX are a phenomenal group! You talk coherently about tones, placements, styles, melody, harmonies (the intricacy of achieving a sound that PTX make look/sound easy), etc. Some of us (🙋🏾♀️) don’t know that stuff, so it’s good to hear it! I LOVE that! WE LOVE that! Keep doing what you’re doing and stop whenever PTX hits you with something! Thank You! 🤗

Josh, it amazes me that you feel you have to apologize for pausing to place your thoughts on each video... as some on here have said we the "pentaholics" have no problems with you doing so because as the other person said we listen to each video multiple times to pick out parts and focus on each member's parts... it makes us appreciate them all so much when we find out who is doing what parts with the timing and rhythms etc... PTX is simply a group of 5 (yes with a change in one member) who are all perfectionists and absolutely love what they do... the fact that this change came about frankly didn't change their musicality much (aside from Avi's definitely unique voice and low note capacity) Matt does a great job replacing this amazing singer with his own great capacity of tone and quality and personality. He fits in very well with the rest of the group and while Avi was the oldest member of the group Matt is now the youngest of them... either way they are an amazing group of consistently pure singers. I love your soothing voice explaining your perspective on each of their videos. Thank you for that...

Avi’s overtone whistle singing is incredible! You as a drummer had to be blown away by Kevin’s triplets-like playing tuned toms! The snare drum rim shots are incredible! Oh, the meter changes (one transition is in five) and the chromaticism; this is a capella and chromatic singing is sooo difficult. Sometimes, even I as a long- time Pentaholic, often forget that they are such masters of their craft you aren’t aware sometimes that their are no instruments! One more thing... the meteors are a tribute to Brian May-an astrophysicist!
@kellyfinley98002 ай бұрын
I’m not sure if anyone’s mentioned this but the couch and the background at the beginning and end is also very significant. If you watch any of their very early videos, quite a few of them are done in their apartment in a seating arrangement just like that or similar to that where Avi and Kevin are in the front and the three are in the back seated on the back of the couch of a loveseat, similar to that. I do think this is one of the last videos that Avi did with the group so I feel like that was a bit of a throwback to their early days partly for him. I’m not positive but I think imagine was his last video he did with the group. And if you want to be completely gob smacked, you need to watch that video.
