You said in another video that you enjoy live performances. I highly recommend 'Gold', originally sung by Kiiara. The PTX music video is a 'live' version (they have several of these) and the post-production is quite light. They all shine in this, but Avi and especially Mitch take the cake in this one for me. I also highly recommend listening to the original first if you don't know it already, that's the best way to truly appreciate the brilliance of their arrangement (it's so smart!) and their vocal prowess.

There's a Behind the Scenes video you would enjoy. They misjudged how adding the motor to the couch would affect its stability; it kept trying to tip over. There were a couple of minor accidents as a result. They had to put a step on the back of the couch so Mitch and Kirstin could get on it from behind (Scott didn't need the step). And you can see when Kirstin is standing on the couch to sing and Mitch joins her she has to give Mitch a hand up. In the early days, after their record label dropped them just a week after they'd "won" the contract, a lot of their videos were just five very young people sitting together on a couch, singing their hearts out. So *this* couch is taking them on a trip down Memory Lane. The starry night sky is a tribute to Brian May, who has a doctorate in astrophysics. The four shooting stars are for the four members of Queen. And the shot near the end of them lying on the couch all together is meant to reference the cover art of Queen's _Sheer Heart Attack_ album. We frequently say that Pentatonix doesn't do covers; they do upgrades, and to a large extent that's true. But it's also true that Pentatonix *always* treats the original song and the original artists with utmost respect. Yes, they made "Bohemian Rhapsody" theirs, but they did not in any way make it any less Queen's.
@yoclark27233 жыл бұрын

Edit: LOL, nvm, I see that Imagine was your next reaction to PTX.

This song is the perfect thing to show someone the difference between singing 'falsetto' like the drummer of Queen did and being a true Alto like Mitch. He actually hits the note with power and projection having zero 'shrill' to the beginning middle or end of the note. Just... astonishing really what that young man can do as a vocalist.

My list of top ten Pentatonix songs every reactor should do (some you've already done): 1. "Hallelujah" (with Avi as bass) 2. "The Sound of Silence" or "Amazing Grace" (with Matt as bass) Great songs, great arrangements, all four vocalists have solos that showcase them 3. "Daft Punk" - their first *Grammy* win for best arrangement, and you'll see why. No added effects (and there's an off-mic performance to prove it). Their other two Grammys are "The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" and "Jolene". 4. "Bohemian Rhapsody" 5. "Imagine" - beautiful arrangement with a strong message for these times 6. "Evolution of Michael Jackson" (or any of their other *Evolution* videos. Pick your favorite artist) - these are medleys on steroid, *recorded live in the studio* in one continuous take, incredible transitions for 20+ songs in 6-7 minutes 7. "Can't Sleep Love" (Popspring concert version) or "Coffee in Bed" - a taste of their *original music* 8. "Aha" (Star Vista Singapore version) - an iconic concert performance. The combination of Mitch's highs and Avi's lows is out of this world. 9. "Say Something" - a powerfully emotional rendition that showcases *Kirstin* as the lead. She usually sings harmonies or shares the lead with Scott and/or Mitch 10. "Havana" - Kevin does Latin percussion here and the harmonies are just gorgeous. If you want to go back to where they started as a band, you should react to their Sing-Off performances (12 judged performances). They were formed on the day before the audition of this a capella reality show, but even from their first performance, they were already pushing the boundaries of a capella. And then you'll see how they grew as a group, taking in and implementing the judges' comments, culminating in an explosive performance. If you want their latest stuff to see where they are now, they just release a new album called "The Lucky Ones", featuring all original songs. They have sold multiple-platinum-selling Christmas albums, and for good reason. Their arrangements of Christmas songs are either angelic ("Mary Did You Know") or inventive ("God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen").

The megaphone was just a prop in the video. Mitch does the guitar riff purely from his vocals. They only sing what can be done live. Another bonus from this group. Requests? So many but I’ll toss a couple out there. Daft Punk Medley (cover) Imagine (cover) Run to you (original)
@susanb42133 жыл бұрын
That's not completely true. I saw an interview with Kevin and he said that they did electronically manipulate Mitch's voice to make it sound more like a guitar. That doesn't take anything away from Mitch-he still has to perform the riffs and runs, and he uses vocal techniques to mimic the guitar. I've heard this live, and without using any electronic help, he got very very close to the video.

That's where I saw the interview with Kevin where he said they electronically manipulated Mitch's voice for the guitar solo. He was open and up front about it. Of course he was-they didn't do anything wrong. They also layered their voices-there are parts where Kevin is singing at the same time he is beat boxing. Obviously not possible. And also very ok. If you want to hear some of Mitch's high notes listen to Superfruit Defying Gravity and their Frozen Medley. Just WOW!

My dad sang in a very low bass. People would sink down in their seats to try to reach the notes.

I came here for the Pentatonix but subscribed for the honest reactions and evaluations. I was flipping through your videos and I don't believe I saw any reactions to Leo Moracchioli (Frog Leap Studios). He's a Norwegian musician/arranger that covers everything from The Beatles to John Denver in a heavy metal style. I particularly like when he brings in guest singers. I'd love to see you react to "Africa", "Listen to Your Heart" or "Dance Monkey". His videos are a wild ride, and be sure to stay for the outros :)

Great reaction! Thank you... Another great rendition of this song is by Marc Martell... Only him and him playing piano... in a one-take...

Great reaction! Thought you'd like this one. They did make this their own, but there are some weird tributes to the original. When I first heard it, I wondered why Kirstie held out her note in "Let him go", and then I listened to the original, and sure enough, that high note was held out there, too! They have done this song live, and it sounds pretty good - not as crazy as the official video, but still amazing. The closest they get to rock in their originals is Love Again. It would be great to see your reaction to that.

Their most underrated song is, IMO, "Mary Did You Know."
