For anyone unfamiliar with The Tommy Tiernan Show, the unique twist is that neither Tommy nor the audience knows who the guest will be until they walk on stage. This makes the interviews completely improvised, leading to spontaneous and often deeply authentic conversations. It’s a refreshing take on the typical chat show format!

thing is though, i know a few heroin addicts who quit heoin and quite quickly became alcoholics. Dan Treacy from the Television Personalities , who I a actually formed a weird friendship with, he even featured on our album was a huge heroin addict and quit and became a massive alcoholic, so it's really not just like having a packet of crisps. Dan is pretty much brain dead now due to an booze induced incidednt. I would be worried at the amount he's probably drinking because it really is so easy to replace one addiction with another. I quit drinking a few years ago and then got addicted to benzos and sleeping pills without really realising it was happening. II have a feeling he hasn't knocked the heroin on the head completely to be honest, he's lost weight since he was really really fat a couple of years ago and there always seemed to be a direct Correlation between his weight and how clean he was. I dunno, maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. He's certainly very coherant here, but I dunno how clean he is to be honest. Tommy Tiernan is a really cool guy though.
@belleh.295517 күн бұрын
He's diabetic. So he's either losing the weight due to diabetes or is on one of the weightloss GLP shots or metformin which were actually made for diabetes. However, I agree that he's not off the hard stuff. There's some rumors echoing of him smoking the "pipe" on tour which I assume is crack, but he's def off the heroine. That being said, he's been with his current wife for ten years so not sure how much she actually had to do with him getting clean. If anything she accepted him that way for almost a decade and therefore enabled it. I think addicts get clean when it's their time and lock down had a lot to do with it.

I found this interview to be frustrating and boring. Peter is a pot of gold if you get him started on his favourite writers and poets. Just tonight, I’ve read the Happy Prince and the Selfish Giant introduced to me by reading old Doherty interviews. These are brilliant and uplifting stories by Oscar Wilde. He’s so much more than an addict. Get him talking about his romantic ideas and the great writers and he can enrich your life. I was listening to early Stevie Wonder after Peter referenced them in an interview - absolutely magical albums. No more boring therapy sessions please. Save it for behind closed doors. Have him open up his big heart, don’t drag him down. So serious and boring. Peter is a light hearted clown and a deep romantic.
@simonthompson2718 күн бұрын
Yeah, you’re right. I said many times about pat Kenny’s interview that it makes clear the media obsession with the destructive nature of people. It also points out though that people, for the most part, don’t know how to deal with the creative aspect. With Pete or …mostly anyone else. I really like it when he discusses song writing, literature or his take on things …and the slower and more introspective, the better it is. Years ago I wanted him to write a ‘Dog Man Star’ …today he might be capable of something like Wally page’s ‘smoke and strong whiskey’? I like it when he falls backwards through both. He can.

HARD AGREE. We miss the ragtag romantic that led people toward literary indulgences and wild words. I remember he said about Kate Moss - I love her bones - and that stuck with me forever. He doesn't talk that way about love anymore, it's now more companionship.

Tiernan over complicates his questions as a means to sound profound, deep and smart. I don't think it adds to the interviewee's experience. "What do you owe your talent?" Is an odd question and is not immediately understood (by me anyway) and Doherty's response at least in the edit has no relation to the question posed. No hate, just my opinion. Peace and love.

About the absent father question: he started to say "ye...", but thought better of it. I personally believe that was his honest answer and he realised it didnt sound good so changed his answer. Possibly a selfish narcissist rather than the sensitive, empathetic creative he is thought it be

Well as he said, it would not have been good for the kids if he had been around at that time, given the way he was living. And I think he’s still getting to grips with recovery. I don’t think he’s a narcissist but he is an addict and he prioritized his addiction for around 15 years or so
@PriHL16 күн бұрын
I think you're the first person I've come across to have a correct assessment on that. Finally someone who gets it. You just need to read his book to know that empathy is not a trait of his and he's got no remorse really towards all the people who have been hurt by his actions. It blows my mind how nearly everyone is so delusional about him etc. (apart from people who hate just to hate). And then he's being accused of ridiculous things I don't think he's guilty of (we all know what it is). That doesn't mean that I don't like his music, I love it. But you also need to see the truth behind the shiny facade. I realise, not many Libertines are like this at all. If you dare to criticise Peter for things that are obvious he hasn't done well, they'll either not talk to you or hurl abuse at you (did fortunately not happen to me but saw it happening to others). The lack of a realistic and common sense approach irritates me and stands in direct opposition to my appreciation for the band. I'd like to see a community that's well balanced in their views and not sycophantic but I know it will never be like this.
@belleh.295515 күн бұрын
@@PriHL I agree but his band is named The Libertines. I mean do you know what a Libertine is in the historical sense? They dgaf that was their whole stance on purpose. To live as artist doing whatever they want without consequence. It's not anything they're hiding.

I felt Tommy wasn't much better than Pat Kenny as an interviewer. I felt like Pat, he focused too much on Peter's addictions and personal life in general. I think Peter was just more willing to open up to Tommy because he wasn't as direct with his questions and made the interview seem more informal. Even after Peter had finished the song Tommy didn't ask him any questions about it. He could have asked about the meaning behind the lyric "Felt better alive".
@ryanjavierortega851314 күн бұрын
You think it means, like, he felt “alive” when he was killing himself? Or do you think he means, like, old songs that were better when they were played live, like at celebratory event &/or gathering of some sort?
