I think a lot of the success of that wave of bands in the early 00s was also down to a cultural shift in the UK away from house music and clubbing. Throughout the mid- late 90s - early 00s dance music dominated everything but by 01/02 it had gotten stale, people were looking for something else, a new scene to follow, and The Strokes were just in the right place at the right time, they hit the UK in 2001 when there was a bit of a culture vacuum, the same way Nirvana did in the early 90s, and Oasis in the mid 90s, and it just caught fire, everywhere you went in 2002 kids were dressed like The Strokes and going to indie discos.

I like this song and this version. Didn’t like Square Wave on Fallon, there’s some good riffs in that one but he over did the auto-tune, which he didn’t on this one. Think an EP would have been better with 5/6 of the best songs. Big Stokes fan but would love to see the Voidz be the Voidz onstage not doing Stokes songs. Prophecy of the Dragon live would be brilliant.

I remember watching when they went on to promote 24/7 RSS and Ryan did the volley challenge and got it top bins, I asked him about it at the HMV signing and he said he genuinely has no idea how he does it haha. Also remember a lot of ‘footy lads’ were slagging them off on Twitter over their live performance which was quite funny.

This era was a great time to be young . The Strokes, The Hives , Libertines , Dirty Pretty Things , Art Brut , Adam.Green , The Crimea , The Upper Room., Even the first Ordinary Boys album . What a Time to be alive . I am into loads of other Indie bands from other eras . Pavement , Pixies , Mountain Goats , Sonic Youth , Hefner , Violent Femmes , Wedding Present . I'm just listing bands I like hehe ha. But I loved being young , when.so called indie landfill happened , cos there were gigs going on all the time , it was really fun .

Babyshambles at that time-I mean, I remember being at the Blackpool show, and the one at the Ritz in Manchester, from that tour before the first album, Pete was asleep on the stage in Blackpool, and nobody could play a note they were so high; people who say, "Oh, I bet you wish you didn't leave", forget how close they came to imploding before that first album, they were junkies first, musicians second at that point. I always remember there was someone at the side of the stage with a dog and a bag of cans; the whole thing had homeless vibes; they were being supported by the Towers of London, these other talentless drunks. It was a brilliant and terrible car crash of a show - nobody could blame her for getting away from them.

I know its all about taste in a way, but from getting towards late 20's in the early period a lot more for me are landfill just because of how they sounded generic and all the same. a lot aren't but in my opinion quite a lot more than what you added. You can have a good song but still be landfill. Is there a slight argument that this is one way that began to kill mainstream guitar music with all the acts just sounding the same?

Nardwar was a troll before trolls. he got bands to freak to make good TV. or so Much Music thought, anyway. instead it's just kind of aggravating. I dunno how punk rock it is to be bumming the Transplants out for your interview program on Canadian MTV. I just don't know. at the Vancouver Warped Tour in 2006 he walked by me and a couple friends and I said hello to him. he said hello back. and that's my explosive Nardwar story -- he's not really like that in public when walking by with what appear to be his parents. B U S T E D. he was nice enough though, so actually I have no complaints at all. doot-doodle doot-doot.
@stephentaylor55007 күн бұрын
Think you were being very generous there with some; Razorlight, Ordinary Boys, The Kooks, The Enemy, The Automatic. Dare I say it, Dirty Pretty Things too. Lots of bands I've never even heard of in that list too who by default I would then chuck in the landfill. To be honest most new bands after that initial 2001-03 wave were landfill in my opinion.
@22grandpod5 күн бұрын
Fair play, game of opinions i guess.
