Probably the funnest VoicePlay video we’ve reacted to so far! Which VoicePlay video do you think tops this one? 🤔

This video and Oogie Boogie Man are my favorites then Little Mermaid.

I love the story behind this cover. Apparently, Earl had a medical emergency before that, so the entire video is about his close-to-death experience. Very much in the style of Queen's storytelling. You've picked up on most references, unlike a lot of other reactors, but I can still add a few things. The guy near Earl's bed is his actual husband. He puts some sort of pendant on his neck, which Baron Samedi (the deity that controls both death and life and likes shiny stuff) notices when he raises Earl's chin with the cane. He visibly gets sympathetic to Earl, while all the other gods are pissed off with both of them. Yama even confronts him, while others give him side-eye glances and stuff. Obviously, the lyrics are more or less appropriate for the narrative. Cerberus or whatever guardian Layne is supposed to be (he does love playing dogs, doesn't he?) tries to end Earl's life with his sword, but Baron blocks the strike with the cane. Earl literally breaks free from them all and makes them disappear (notice how the death gods are standing their ground ready to fight, but Baron doesn't give a crap since he likes Earl and just takes it like a champ), while singing "Show Must Go On" and returning to life. The ending sounds like "Don't Stop Me Now" in a way different key, stopping at the words "I feel alive". When Earl wakes up, the pendant thingy is gone, meaning my mans has probably yoinked it as payment for resurrecting Earl. What a great narrative, I love me some great attention to detail.

I don't know how many times I've watched this VP video and I didn't notice J rolling his eyes. Thanks for pointing it out! So I'll point out something in return! From what I've heard in the VP fandom behind the scenes stuff, Earl had a real health scare that was the inspiration for this story. And since Freddie Mercury was into Mythology, they went with that as well. The three, Guardian, Anubis, and Yama Nirvana, seem to have a rivalry with Baron Samedi and there's a reason for it! The trio are all ushers of the undead, sending the souls along to the underworld. So they want Earl to choose one of their afterlives to move on. Baron though, he's a god of both death and creation. Earl won't die if Baron doesn't dig his grave, so to speak. And Baron obviously chooses to let Earl live... In exchange. If you notice at the beginning of the video Earl's husband puts a necklace around his neck. When he returns to the living world, he's no longer wearing the necklace. Baron took it in exchange for Earl's life. Those are some tidbits I've picked up from other fans. ♥

My favorite reaction of yours to date - and I have watched a lot. I loved the joy on your faces. And as Queen was the thing between my generation and my son's, I missed a lot of little things. I really like that you put notes on your wall.

VoicePlay was so creative with this. I know Earl had been hospitalized when they were on tour and his appendix ruptured. They used Earl's misfortune to create this mini-movie.

For more storylines: Trapped- Billie Eilish in three minutes followed by Panic at the Disco (2 parts, the 2nd is quite short so do them together) is confirmed by VoicePlay as a series. It’s quite dramatic and a fan made theory says that the series end with this Queen medley where Earl fights for his life. I also recommend their Phantom of the opera! And I think you’d find their Road Trip (live) fun too!

I'm fairly new to Voiceplay and have been watching as many reactions to this song as I can find because I love the story of it. I think your reactions are my favorite, I love that you did some research after listening and added information in text, like the information about Baron, and I love how many details you caught that other reactors missed.

I really like your reactions, you’re so perceptive and have so much knowledge! Imho as good as all VoicePlay is beyond great, I really can’t say that something tops anything else. Eli shines in quite many of their songs, here’s a list of examples that I recommend: Waving through a window (from Dear Evan Hansen) Attention (feat. Rachel Potter) Kiss Love yourself (featuring only Eli and Geoff) O little town of Bethlehem (you may wanna wait till Christmas, but it’s so beautiful with Eli and Geoff on lead). Oh my, long list, yet not complete. Can I just make a list of all VoicePlay’s songs and hand over to you as recommendations... 😉😁 Love your VoicePlay reactions and am looking forward to more 😊.

I loved your reactions! This mashup was really so much fun, it is definitely one of my favorites of their videos. As for your questions, that "da-da-da" singing was probably either Layne or Geoff multi-tracked. Layne is very talented, but he cannot sing while beatboxing. And as for more Eli, well, I know you've already heard him belt on My Mother Told Me, so I'll recommend Carry On Wayward Son. I'll also recommend their cover of Twenty-One Pilots' Ride - it doesn't have much belting, but it's part of their Partwork series, so it has Eli multi-tracked singing everything but the low bass and percussion. As a random suggestion, I'm also going to recommend VoicePlay's cover of True Colors. It's a really unique arrangement, and it has Layne singing (which is a rare treat). Also, just to nerd out a tiny bit - there are multiple Loa in Vodou with the name "Baron". Depending on the particular branch of the religion you're looking at, they are either viewed as separate Loa or as aspects of Baron Samedi. I would guess that Geoff is actually closer to Baron Kriminel, who is the dark aspect of Baron Samedi, especially given how he is at odds with the others (who are presented as guardians and judges of the dead).

There’s so much about this one I love, and I don’t know about Layne in this, but it is possible to layer singing sounds and beatboxing, apparently it’s one component of a lot of beatboxing competitions - I don’t know much about it though. So fun seeing you watch this one! (Also, semi-related to Queen, have you two seen/read/heard of Good Omens?)

Zhen Yao Yin With all the references to myths but also their obvious humorous takes (e.g. Geoff’s way of pointing Eli’s eyes in another direction, their gestures to “he’s made a few [mistakes]” and “he can go on and on and on” that you pointed out, and J None’s light skipping to the weight where he weighs the heart against a feather), I personally believe that we’re supposed to see both seriousness and fun in this video. They’ve made too many fun references for us, I think they surely want us to notice them. Sometimes humour is a way to handle scary things in life.
@christinestromberg40573 жыл бұрын
@@veronicathunander4579 Oh I agree there is humour in there but it's not the funniest thing they've ever done. :) Have a look at the 1 minute musical called Miley Cyrus, or the other one, Wookie For Christmas. Now those are funny,

@@christinestromberg4057 Yes, I agree! I love "Wookie for Christmas", it's hilarious! 🤣 I like "Miley Cyrus" but the music more than the lyrics, maybe partly because I don't know who she is so I don't know the references (guess she's a bit of a scandal, though..? 😉). But as far as those 1 minute musicals go, I laugh so hard at the one about the light bulb! I think that the one minute musicals are the only original VoicePlay songs? Miley Cyrus written by Geoff, the lightbulb by Eli and the Traffic Jam by Layne and Tony.

I just want to throw a thought out there... After you went through all the Gods... I notice that only Earl sings about the Christian God? And that like Christianity is not represented in the others and therefore, with the light and all... The underworld Gods always distance themselves from Earl when he is singing about God, as if they fear his light.... You could go on and on and on (reference hihi) about it ;) Thank you for going through it! I know the song since it came out, but never got in so much detail before. :)
