To Jay and family: We're deeply honoured and thankful that you chose and decided to stay and live in our country. We're deeply saddened though with the devastation that you also experienced there in Siargao with the onslaught of the typhoon Odette. But don't despair, God is good, and He shall provide the help that all of you there direly need. Just keep faith and Please take care still. You are a good family and we in the Philippines welcome you and your family with open arms and open heart. My prayers for you and your family and for the Filipino people there. God bless you all.

We filipino used to have these kind of catastrophes but one thing we knew is to stand up and rise again and never ever forget that God is always there to guide and help us. And thank God that we are still alive. The important thing is we are alive. Filipino wisdom "hanggat my buhay may pag-Asa" (as long as we are alive there's always hope). Don't lose hope guys. There is an important lesson opportunity for Story here. You need to stay strong and demonstrate to her that no matter how bad things get in life, there is always hope for the future. I was in Kruger National Park many years ago. A Ranger told me that yes Elephants can be destructive. But often that destruction creates circumstances for new growth. For example tearing a bow off a tree allows plants to germinate and grow in the shelter of that discarded dead branch. Your priorities are right. Get the house weatherproof. Then I'd clear up the broken glass so that in particular Poppy does not injure herself and can run free. I think the purchase of a chainsaw might be a useful tool to turn those trees into manageable logs. The place will look a whole lot better once those trees are removed.

My girlfriend and I stayed in this exact house in January 2018 for 10 days when we were in Siargao. We just happened to type in Siargao on KZbin to see the storm damage and we came across your video and we were absolutely shocked that you are staying in the same exact place. We have so many memories there. When you showed the dad it brought back so many memories. He is so hardworking and a really nice person. We are so glad that you all are okay.

This is a common sight in the Philippines, we are the shield of asia when it comes to typhoons. I've always attributed the fact that the Philippines is so awfully prone to natural calamities that contribute to the fatalistic optimism of the people because that is the only way to move forward.

I'm Filipino and I cried because you cried but when I saw the trees on the ground - I saw brand new houses being built with them, and food for weeks... Don't worry too much, the only big step that you must do is the first step to clean and fix your house :) as long as you're alive and healthy - then all is good. Broken cars can be fixed for cheap in the Philippines - money is not even a problem as long as you know how to use your elbow grease. Smile, tomorrow is a new day. A new beginning awaits. Resiliency is not a good thing and shouldn't be seen in a positive light. What we should do as 'Filipinos' is to improve infrastructure, invent things that will help us protect against storms. Build things that will complement storms, especially a way of harnessing a great deal of energy from these storms. We should be more productive, not resilient.

I spoke with a customer service agent in Cebu City yesterday and he said they don’t have power or water in many areas. Odette has been compared to Yolanda (Haiyan) from 2013. It breaks my heart to see this. The climate crisis is real. Storms like this that go from a low end typhoon to a high end Super Typhoon like Haiyan (Yolanda) in less than 24 hours is becoming the new normal. It’s happening here in the United States as well. I’m so sorry for all you’re going through as well as all the people & animals affected. It will take years before this island fully recovers. The vegetation will take a decade or more. I’m so sorry.

Joyce Apilan. -. Appreciate your positivity but I can't agree on "good government", I hardly think so ! But surely the people and their paradise will rise again thanks to their strong will and innate resiliency. In the words if JFKennedy - " ask not what your country can do for you...." and completed in the perspective of Philippine political leadership..." ask what you can do for ... (yourself) .....sigh !!! Praying for everyone and may God bless us all even in the US where there have natural disasters in many states as well.

The good government aren't even there in a week. It's a shame there aren't any low level drug pushers/ users on siargiao they're aware of as they are very efficient at killing them. Perhaps if "Duterte Harry' applied himself to this and other natural disasters the way he did offing drug addicts they might get somewhere.

@@willsmith39 I guess you've never lived in a developing country that has been constantly been struck by natural disasters. They simply do not have enough funds, man power or equipment to be there ASAP. The Philippines is also an archipelago which makes it harder to travel especially during a typhoon. The storm might have passed but it doesn't mean the ocean is calmer. Even the US is slow at responding and we're supposedly a first world nation. 😑🙄
