The difference is: Dear Father is Bad ending, I'm with you is Good ending.

It doesn't matter because in the original ending there is a post-revenue where Eggman revives Sage and in the DLC throughout the adventure The End is an enemy without a context of his motives. It's the player himself who is left with his own opinions about which ending he likes the most since the game doesn't eliminate the original ending, it just gives you a different perspective to go through.

​@zonikel---- I wouldn't go so far as to say it is the player choice but rather Sonic Team tackling the demand for an playable boss fight with an rewarding system which actually made it more difficult for players to even finish before the DLC was nerf for those folks. Dear Father, It was always bittersweet while I'm with you. It has been the same tempo and tone under a different message.

That monologue while that song plays, it's one of my favorite things, there's something so wondrous about it. So desperate.. yet hopeful.

"I'm with you" the music that plays in the final boss of the normal story. The embodiment of the concept of death itself takes a physical form into the world of living. an enemy that is IMPOSSIBLE (and you don't beat it at the end, since death is inevitable) but at least you managed to delay the unavoidable and show that as long as there's life within you, you won't give up.

You have it backwards. "Dear Father" is what plays in the normal story. "I'm with you" is what plays in the alternate story. The reason for the difference of songs is because- (Major spoiler warning) In the original ending, Sage sacrifices herself to save Eggman (her father) and everyone else. The song is basically a 'thank you' letter to Eggman for making her, and caring for her. Where as in the alternate story's ending, she survives because Sonic learns to utilize his new power to it's fullest, allowing him to defeat The End without Sage needing to sacrifice herself. The song is basically making a big note of how she's alive, he's alive, they're all alive. And now, she gets to go home with him. They get to be a family. It really has me wondering though, which ending Sega will treat as the 'canon ending'. Because the Alternate Story was added much later, and many players didn't go back to play it. But it ultimately doesn't matter THAT much, because after the end credits in the normal ending, it shows Eggman recreating Sage, presumably with a backup of her memories. It would just leave some confusion as to why characters aren't questioning how she's alive if they went with the alternate story's ending.

So basically without spoiling, the instrumental was the original true final boss theme that you only get by playing on Hard Mode while the boss is doing a monologue about how you will never beat them. Once you do of course, then you get an ending cutscene and then Dear Father and One Way Dream play during the credits (if you weren't on Hard mode, you completely skip the boss and instead of One Way Dream, it's Vandalize by One Ok Rock but otherwise the same basically) The expansion completely rewrote the entire last zone of the game (there's 5 "zones" aka different open world areas you play) and in the new ending, you instead fight a different final boss (Aka the Kellin Quinn version of I'm Here - Revisited you listened to) which results in a more positive ending. A slightly tweaked ending scene plays then the credits which was previously Dear Father now plays this vocal version of I'm with you (and then One Way Dream again but this time, regardless of what difficulty you select) Basically it's supposed to be the same character singing about their family but Dear Father is about the outcome of the original bad ending (as you said "a farewell song") while I'm with you is them singing about the revised good ending. It's so interesting how they turned a boss theme for the major villain instead into a song about one of the "good" main characters, entirely flipping it's intention on it's head.

I HUNDRED percent recommend listening to Dear My Friend from the Sonic Unleashed soundtrack. It plays at the end of the game after Endless Possibilities during the credits.

Yay this one! It's such a good piece, very emotional. The original plays in the true final boss, and the vocals play during the expansion credits. I also recommend listening to character themes from the Frontiers expansion. One of them is different from the others in a specific way due to plot. To clear up some confusion: The first one was a fan mix using ripped game files, and since in-game it's all dynamic, they mixed it a bit differently. The 2nd one was the official soundtrack release, which are usually mixed a bit better and have the highest-possible audio quality, minus KZbin's own compression! =)

To ne clear once and for all. Dear Father is the credits song after Eggmans AI daughter Sage sacrificed herself. I'm with you is the Endboss theme before the sacrifice. After SEGA (developers) realized, that the end of the game has to ne polished, they decided to create a alternative ending to the game, with other boss music. I'm with you with vocals got the new credits theme for the now surviving Sage.

If you haven't heard "Dear My Friend" then time to keep the feels train rolling still lol It's from Sonic Unleashed and is the ending theme to that. Brent Cash is the singer to that one

I always interpreted this song as both Sage and Sonic's feelings during the climax. Clearly the main one here is Sage and her discovery of love and family but Sonic fits nicely as well, he's fighting what could very well be his final battle ever against the End of everything while his closest friends are trapped and tormented. Yes, he's been a very "Oh yeah, friendship prevails every time, we can do anything together guys yeah!" kind of guy since Heroes and loves his social circle dearly but there's never been signs that he views them as family aside from Tails. Here in Frontiers he did, with each character through their dialogues and Sonic's monologues you see how Sonic is finally understanding how much these guys mean to him, bonds stronger than mere friendships. The song, for me, becomes more intense with that context. "A family of my own, I get to go home with you" hits harder when I'm thinking both Sage wants a chance to live life and Sonic wants to not take his friends for granted and spend time with them. "Memories, I'll always remember", "Would it be too much if I asked to stay forever?", "Everything feels warmer and safer. Anything, we can get through together now that I'm with you." simply becomes overwhelming.

PLEASE listen to *"The End Of All Things"* by longestsoloever!!! It's a fan-made song based off of the game's final boss's perspective, and it's *arguably* the best fan-made song I've heard from any game ever. It fits the boss extremely well, and the lyrics also highlight many points of the game and the boss itself, while having some amazing vocalists as well.

Spoiler Ahead The main game and dlc story have similar yet different endings, and one difference is regarding the fate of a certain character who is essentially a daughter to another character. "Dear Father" represents the ending where they die and "I'm with you" represents the ending where they live.

Idk if its just the video but the audio for the original version of I'm with you sounds muffled a bit. I'm assuming it's because of the video choice being one that released when the album wasn't out yet so it's just an in-game rip instead of the ost version, but idk
