Fun fact the reason why they joked about merchandise so much when there was none to be had was due to copyright. The only way mel Brooks could make this movie and parody so much from star wars was because George Lucas gave him the go ahead on the agreement that there would be no merchandise due to the powers that be thinking parents would get confused and buy spaceballs actionfigures instead of star wars cutting into their sales.

While Alien is a great haunted house movie set in space, Aliens is an amazing action thriller. It 's one of the best sequels ever made, and fully cemented James Cameron as a genius writer-director. Also, it must be said, Sigourney Weaver is AMAZING in the film!

Aliens kind of ruined the franchise in a way though. Alien 3 was more like the original Alien and wasn't really that bad but everyone was expecting another "amazing action thriller" and that's not the kind of movie it was so it bombed.
@rttoonist42754 жыл бұрын
@@nodak81 Alien 3 made the same mistake that the recent Terminator film did. It invalidated the characters' hard won victory from the previous film that the audience really cared about. Both films would have been much better received if they had simply found a way around that stumbling block. Like you said, Alien 3 wasn't that bad, but audiences simply couldn't forget the elephant in the room. Newt, Hicks, and John Connor deserved better.

Anybody who says it couldn't be made today doesn't understand what actually makes it work. "Oh it's just so offensive." Not really. Bigotry is portrayed as stupid 100% of the time in the movie. Movies that push those same boundaries DO get made today. The only joke that would always be cut for TV was the fart scene at the campfire. The rest would be dubbed for language, but still get broadcast. She would have to edit heavily for KZbin's sake, but that's it.

What, no reaction to the "Jews in Space" trailer at the end of the movie? (never mind; that was in History of the World Part 1) Brooks nailed it with the "merchandising" line. In fact when he requested permission from Lucas to do the spoof, Lucas specified that no merchandising was allowed. Fun fact: Lone Starr's call sign was "Eagle 5." In Independence Day Pullman was Eagle 1.

Most people don't understand the humor of "Jews in space." It's because the Jews pictured are orthodox Jews, and they believe "space" is God's country (heaven), and mankind is not supposed to go, incarnate into heaven.

It's fitting that there is only one hero character. In the initial script( a direct rip-off of the hidden fortress by Akira Kurosawa), there is one hero that was divided into Obi-Wan and Han Solo. Luke's character was initially the princess, leading to the creation of Luke AND Leia.

You could tell Mel Brooks was a fan, to do a parody that was tasteful and silly. It was great how he hit so many other film references that weren't Star Wars as well. "How big is this ship?!" The ship size thing was a reference to the opening scene in Star Wars (Ep4). The star destroyer seemed to just keep coming and coming. It had people in awe of the size and scale on the movie screen. Really have enjoyed your reactions. Even the ones when you don't quite get something or you finally get a reveal to something you had been questioning that had been set-up earlier. When you get around to Star Trek movies, the best place to start is Star Trek 2: The Wrath Of Khan, then 3 + 4. Those films act as the unofficial trilogy.
