Liar Liar was vintage Jim Carrey comedy - lots of physicality. It was also pre-2011, so comedy movie shenanigans at the airport and on the runway were common movie tropes. So were divorced parents getting back together. Simpler times, lol.

This movie doesn't get enough credit for subverting the evil stepdad thing. Jerry (Cary Elwes) is pretty objectively a better dad, but when Fletcher (Jim Carrey) wants to be there for Max, Jerry backs off. Also, the "I'm a bad father" hits so hard. It really shows Jim Carrey's acting range and it's so good.

But the movie infers that she lied about her age to get married, further inferring that she presented herself as a willing participant in a "romantic relationship". And we aren't told who initiated this relationship, but it is also inferred that she is a gold digging whore, who has cheated on her husband multiple times with multiple partners resulting in a number of her children not being her husband's offspring (Paternity Fraud). And I can give you a real life scenario: A co-worker of mine is currently dating a 57 year old. She's 38. So when does the age gap become okay? The answer: as soon as you're an adult, aged 18.

I'll point out that Mr Cole is not a creep. He didn't know she was 17. She lied and 'd assume got a fake ID saying she was 18, I mean he is considerably older but to say he's a creep because he married a 17 year old isn't fair. I'll add that them making Jerry a good guy was a great move on the filmmakers part. So often the potential stepparent is shown in a negative light so it's refreshing when they decide to not do that. @ Truman Show and Man on the Moon lean much heavier into comedy. The latter Golden Globe was specifically for comedic performance. Jim has talked often about how studios tend to discount his ability to anchor more dramatic and serious films, despite Eternal Sunshine and less popular films like The Number 23 and Dark Crimes. The series Kidding was great, but never got much attention from audiences. So yeah, I’d still say his dramatic abilities are underrated by most because he doesn’t get the same respect as Denzel, De Niro, or DiCaprio-types outside of comedy, or even much of a chance to showcase his talents in that regard.

I used to think like you, then I grew up and realized that big of an age gap usually represented a severe immaturity and desire to manipulate and control their partner. It is not impossible for two people that far in age to be in a healthy relationship, but 9 times out of 10 it's an abusive relationship where the older partner is manipulating someone less mature than them. They choose people younger than them because they know someone their age would see all of their red flags and stop tolerating it in a heartbeat. They prey on naivety, which younger people have in spades. I would never date someone that much younger than me, either way. Do you know how annoying it is to date someone who's lagging behind in experience in life? Having to have constant arguments or talks about why you don't think what they said or did was okay and them just brushing it off because they're immature and thoughtless? As for the character in the movie, the actor may be older than her or they just cast someone who happens to appear older, but it doesn't mean the characters are that old. How many coming of age movies about teenagers do you see where the actors are all nearing their 30s? A lot, _because that's almost all of them._

Fletcher absolutely deserved to be single and alone and unhappy. He was a terrible father. He was straight up cheating on his wife multiple times with who knows how many people. And before this he probably got many awful people out of jail because of his lies. A change of heart does not undo everything else.

To be fair, I don't think the guy realized she was 17 when he got married, but I wouldn't actually remember since it's been awhile since I've seen it and I've only seen it once. I also don't know how things were back then, but considering it would've have had to happen in the 80s, probably not much different. But then again, in Canada, it's 16 as stated in Scott Pilgrim, so I know nothing.

This film has always held a special place for me because the relationship of Fletcher and Max sort of mirrors the relationship I had with my dad when I was a kid. He wasn't there much, but when he was, he was warm and funny and charming. But he moved out of state when I was young, and I saw less and less of him as I got older because he got remarried and was more focused on his job than parenting.

It was navigating to the runway via the taxiways, which has some turns and some longer straight segments which the pilot usually drives the plane at about 30 mph. The stairs can drive that fast too. Pilots get clearance to go to the runway and get set up to take off.
