Hi! Some have suggested that this video was made only because of the negative comment about me - I planned making a reaction video to Facul-Tea at the beginning of exam season when this comment hadn’t been published! I have made similar videos over the summer break in the past (see kzbin.info/www/bejne/npWXZJqfpad0h6M and kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3jCh5auj9NprMU) since I can’t vlog during that time and I therefore need different content. When I got around to filming it, the comment had been posted and it would have been weird not to mention it and I honestly also wanted to address it and thank people for supporting me when it came out because having something written about you in a public forum which is largely used by your peers can also go very differently for you!

I feel bad that you always respond to trolls that suggest you had a certain "underlying motive" for anything you do. Don't justify yourself ever to these people, they are bitter people who envy everything you have in your life. I don't know if these people stress you out at all, but if I were in your place it would stress me out a lot having to go out of my way to explain everything I do,. Take care!

Some people tend to mirror their insecurities and jealousy over other people so that “it’s somebody’s else’s fault”. Even if I don’t know you personally, I really feel like you’re a kind, genuine person and you don’t deserve to be judged just based on what brand of clothes you wear.

I hope I’ll be able to access that FB page, find your reply, and give it a like without being a Cambridge student, because as subscriber, I’ve watched loads of your videos and you’ve explained it so many times. I’ll admit the first time, I thought you must be well off too, but I stuck around long enough to see you explain how you worked your arse off (pardon the explicit language) and I firmly believe you deserve to spend money on what you want to. The other person is right too - I’m not from a well off family, but we have no control over how wealthy our parents are, and there’s nothing wrong in people enjoying their privilege as long as they’re not harming anyone. Someone who is ‘rich’ who wears Chanel perfume is literally not harming someone who isn’t well off. It’s okay for people to have nice houses and nice clothes if that’s what they like. It doesn’t hurt anyone.

Hi Elena, I'm curious, when you don't have university exams, do you still wake up early like usual? & instead of studying how do you occupy your time? I'm just curious because you're always studying, so wondering what you do when there's no exams 🤔😅 x

There is no such thing like a "crappy job". I understand that you and your mom work your way through Camb. uni. Do not get me wrong (and i believe that it was just a mishap), I come from a poor family and yet I was able to study at the world's best unis because me and my parents (with "crappy jobs") worked for it. my dad has 3 jobs and mom works 12 hours 7 days a week, me working a "crappy job" 5 days a week) so we all are able to support my studies. But there is no such a thing like a crappy job. We all need each other. We all need every single job in our global economy. People work for money, they have to pay their bills and their living expenses. As long as they are able to do a decent job, take care of themselves and/or their families, it is never a crappy job. If you do law, if you are a shop assistant, a youtuber, anything. You work for the money and you deserve it, you have place in the global economy. :) Just my view. Otherwise Elena, I love your videos :)) You inspire me and I know that you inspire thousands of other people too! Keep on going! Wish you every success :))))

And btw, I never got any scholarship so we have to pay on our own :)
@ElenaHandtrack4 жыл бұрын
Hi! The reason I called some of them 'crappy' wasn't because of the job itself at all but rather because I was paid less than minimum wage which does make it a pretty awful job (they were able to do that by passing it off as a sort-of volunteering but I worked over 40 hours a week and made less than 1 Euro an hour)! I respect any legal work which people do, but I think they should be compensated fairly for their work. So this description wasn't to criticise the work I did, but rather the employer who did not compensate me adequately (though of course, I'm also not entirely innocent on this since I accepted the job knowing that).

Been there, done that with the whole awful jobs thing and people getting back at you for working so hard - my first job paid well under the legal minimum wage and it was so unsafe that I almost died twice from malpractice and non-existent health and safety, I now have long standing health implications from that job and what happened. Until the pandemic hit I worked 9 hour shifts, usually one in a weekend but sometimes two and on busier days I wouldn't get a lunch break - this was ALONGSIDE my sixth form work, so I would be at school 9-5 Monday through Friday (plus homework and revision), then working 9hrs either Saturday or Sunday or both, plus at least 4 EXTRA shifts in half term weeks as well. I saved up enough money to go to my first festival last year in May and buy a load of merchandise, a VIP upgrade to meet my favourite band for my 18th birthday, a new phone after a child at the place I worked decided to take my old one for a swim in the juice jug, I bought my own iPad (pre-owned, first generation iPad Air, had 4 previous owners) for my sixth form work after my laptop completely died (due to the health conditions from the job I struggle with writing by hand and need to type my work), and until the pandemic I was able to afford the train fares to see my girlfriend who lived an hour away by rail on Saturdays where I didn't work. So many people have yelled at me for having money to spend on festivals and concerts but they didn't see me rushing around the place where I worked, possibly without having eaten that day, dealing with umpteen issues and pending tasks, exhausted.

Hey, I am from Germany and I would like to know if the "tea" in the name of "facul-tea" has a special meaning (of course it is a wordplay with "faculty"). On KZbin I often recognized the word "tea" in the context of speaking about drama. Can someone explain me this expression, please? :)
@ElenaHandtrack4 жыл бұрын
Hi! My British friends use ‘tea’ to describe any drama or gossip or even just news (not traditional news but more news about someone or anything that’s just a little more on the gossipy side) and I think it’s used in the same way here! I guess it’s supposed to signal the nature of the page since all the confessions are somewhat gossipy (but usually still fun)! I hope this explanation made sense🤗

Elena, you are answerable to no one! You have reaped your rewards from single-parenthood through to immense success via hard work. It saddens me that you feel the need to defend your spending habits and social-status. It’s nobody’s business. You exude class, beauty and authenticity, and trust me, there are far more at Cambridge that are answerable for their poor privileged behaviours.

That comment is fair. Its still bad optics for a pretty white girl to showing off designer goods who goes to cambridge. It highlights multiple different privileges you continually see at Cambridge. Fair enough that you earned those things yourself and you have a lower income household but again optically your video may show that to people at a glance because they wouldnt dig through your whole life and personhood
@zoeschoolstuff69194 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it’s fair though. “Rich” people or those who just enjoy and can afford expensive things shouldn’t have to hide their luxuries because people are poor and upset about it. There are clearly going to be a lot of well of people at one of the top universities in the world🤷🏾♀️
@MomochanAnE4 жыл бұрын
Doesn't Cambridge cost as much as any other UK university? I really don't know because I'm not from UK nor I have attended uni there. I always looked at Oxbridge as places you can get into if you're super intelligent and work your butt off, I never thought of Cambridge being only for the rich and posh...and I heard about plenty of students saying they are supported by scolarships/grants/UK loan. Btw, owning luxury items doesn't automatically make you 'posh' with negative acceptation. If one brags about it (that is not your case) I'd understand more, but even in this case, who cares lol
@rachelreynolds16044 жыл бұрын
Historically it would’ve been for people with money, however now with the way the student loan system works, it costs £9,250 per year just the same as any other UK university.
@dholmes2644 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t cost more to go there, but often those with money have a far greater chance of getting in through things such as tutoring for interviews and entrance exams, knowing people that can find work experience, attending summer schools and private schools providing a better education. This doesn’t mean that you can’t get in without money, but that it’s easier for those with privilege to get in, even though they still have to be intelligent and work incredibly hard as well (I don’t want to minimise their achievement) Also the reputation of being ‘for money’ previously can deter state school students from applying.
@ElenaHandtrack4 жыл бұрын
totally agreeing with everything d Holmes said - I’d just add that even though the cost is the same for everyone and there are ways to fund it (eg student loan), there are other costs which can still make it harder for people to have the full Cambridge experience - for example Mayball tickets which cost over £100 and for which there is no funding in most (if not all) colleges for students from less wealthy backgrounds! Same goes for things such as formal hall dinners which are a big part of Cambridge culture for many students! Cam is still learning the full meaning of accessibility and so issues like this are still not resolved unfortunately😔
@dholmes2644 жыл бұрын
Elena Handtrack thanks for your response, I found it really interesting to see the differences from a perspective inside the college that I hadn’t previously considered. Just wanted to say as well that I absolutely love your channel and videos💕

@@dholmes264 Thank you, I kinda imagined it, unfortunately this is a big issue for many instituitions. I think universities should admit a certain percentage of people coming from different income brackets, so that everyone really has the same opportunities as others!
