So apparently a movie called The Little Mermaid is due for release this year but is it the Disney Live Action we've all been waiting for?
This is what their description says " New live-action film inspired by the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. By Conglomerate Media and Kingsway Productions.

nigel spencer actually maleficent and Cinderella have stuck to their main stories. This is the Hans Christian Anderson version modernised and COMPLETELY CHANGED

But, The Little Mermaid title is not exclusive to Disney. Disney didn't even tell the original Hans Christian Andersen story...which is more beautiful in it's sad ending especially when one learns why he wrote the story in the first place. As a love letter to a man he was in love with and knew that they could never be together. And the man didn't even know it was for him. Which makes the ending of the original that much more sad. There's a Japanese Anime The Little Mermaid that was made years before the Disney version that tells the original story. So, Disney doesn't have exclusive rights to the name or their watered down version...though it is a beautiful story they told, it is still full of plot holes. Like, if she signed her name on Ursula' s contract, why couldn't she sign her name on the sand to tell the prince her name when he asked? ;-)

Cpn. Beartato hahahahaha! It would have cut the movie down to a short if she would have done that. ;-) But, the original story is so much more meaningful and emotional with the ending. Have you seen the original Anime movie?

Cpn. Beartato enjoy...have to tell you that after Disney's version, most people criticize the original. The animation is a bit dated. I believe it was made in the 70's or early 80's. But, it is a great watch. They even bring up how walking hurt the little Mermaid. As if she were walking on glass. It is as close a telling of the original tale as possible. :-)

it's called the little mermaid because it is loosely based on the Hans Christian Andersen book called the little mermaid, not the Disney movie. Even the other one is gonna be more based on the actual book than the animated version was.

Honestly it shouldn't matter that it's called the little mermaid because the original fairy tale isn't disneys to monopolized and good on whatever studio dropped their trailer for it early because it will put a fire under Disney to deliver something now that it has competition plus it's an awesome take on the fairy tale. I'll definitely see it and I find the premise refreshing

is it just me or does the trailer seem to clique and revealing of the entire movie. Sadly, it also seems like disney had a bad thought process to the movie's setting and plot. I would've liked it if the setting took place in her kingdom UNDERWATER like the first movie. But at least "the prince" is hot

Um... to each their own opinion, but... Belle is 17, Snow White is 14, Cinderella is 19, Aurora is 16, Ariel is 16, Mulan is 16, Jasmine is 15, Pocahontas is 18, Rapunzel is 18, and Tiana is 19... technically you're right, but do you know how rare it is for teen actors to play teen roles? How would all those Snow White adaptations have gone with actual fourteen-year-old actresses? I have my opinion and you have yours, but even the current Disney channel tv stars are in their late teens and twenties.

I think Joanna Garcia as Ariel and James Marsden as Eric would have been perfect, had they both been a bit younger(Ariel is supposed to be 16 and Eric around 18-20). It would be a good idea to cast someone that isn't very famous/well known, as Ariel and than maybe have some more well known faces in the rest of the cast. I just hope that the person they cast as Ariel will actually resemble her(fair skin, red hair, big blue eyes)!!!!

The title does not belong to Disney and I will not be looking at any Disney movies that are not one of the classics. I can't wait to see this one! I believe it's coming to theaters this summer, I'm hoping in time for my birthday Aug 1st. I have a mermaid tail I swim with at my YMCA. I love mermaids and mermaiding at the YMCA is helping me loss weight! Ariel is a favorite because she was my first movie at a theater one and my grandma took me to see it, also we are both red heads lol I live in the South so I'm soooo happy it's set in Mississippi!

I love the Disney version I'm pretty sure the book was good but I grew up watching the Disney version. I also don't think this movie would be much of a competition for Disney. Most people are looking for a live action film of the original classic animation. This movie looks cute though.

There have been others that has taken the name "The little mermaid" and made animated film(thats much more faithful too the original story) about a mermaid before disney. So disneys version is not an original.

disney does not own the rights to the little mermaid, or any fairytales, they own the rights of (sebastian, ursula, flounder- the names) etc but the story itself is public domain, and can be interpreted in different ways
