Don’t know if interested but recommend the series monarch: legacy of monsters. If goes more info on the monarch organization and how they been around since the 50s and fill in some details for Godzilla 2014, kong: skull island and other current and set up future stuff. Even for Kurt russel and his son Wyatt (actor who was temp captain America/us agent in falcon & winter soldier) to Star in it.

You need to watch Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. You'd love that. That Series was so good and did a great job of explaining the world after Godzilla 2014 whilst tying into Kong: Skull Island and giving set-up to things in GVK. Hope it gets a Season 2.

If you guys want more Godzilla I would definitely recommend the Heisei era Godzilla films. They have Godzilla as both a villain and a hero so you see both sides of him. You get some of his most iconic adversaries as well as a few unique new ones. Also it's this series where you may get emotionally attached to Godzilla so Jen might enjoy that part. Here's the films in order Godzilla '84 (The Return of Godzilla) Godzilla vs Biollante Godzilla vs King Ghidorah Godzilla vs Mothra Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II (called II because the original in the Showa era was called the same) Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla Godzilla vs Destoryah

The Peter Jackson King Kong also has Andy Serkis. He plays two characters, one of the ship mates…and Kong. I can’t wait for Jen to be mesmerized with the beautiful and majestic cinematography of KoTM I do feel, based on both trailers, that this one feels more centric to Kong than Godzilla, but I’m all for it. I love both characters so much but I grew up with Godzilla movies Holden, I was also team Godzilla in GvK And last but not least, Godzilla: Minus One/Minus Color was an absolute spectacle But i feel to enjoy that version the best way possible, you’d need to have seen the original theatrical colorized version at least once

There's one blink and you miss it moment in the trailer... when it shows Kong and the ship moving away from the camera (right after they go down the tunnel to under-Earth) there's ice spreading towards them (in the bottom left hand corner). I'm guessing this is from whatever the other big bad in the movie is (the same one whose glowing eyes we see just before it attempts to blast Kong).

Hello Holden, I would like to suggest a DC animated movies universe that you may be familiar with, the DCAMU (DC Animated Movies Universe). It’s a universe of 16 films like the MCU but in animation with DC characters. It would even allow Jen to discover more characters from DC Comics. For me, it's even better structured than the DCEU. Just a suggestion

Godzilla is not good or bad in the American monsterverse movies. His job is to keep the order of nature in check. He makes sure the titans stay in the hollow Earth and the humans stay on the surface. In GvK he went after the Apex facilities because he could sense King Ghidora's presence. The humans were using his head to create Mechagodzilla. He also went after Kong, because Kong is a titan and like I said earlier, they are supposed to be in the hollow Earth. I can see why watching GvK first makes Godzilla look evil. That's why Godzilla 2014 is the one to start with.

I agree! Jen definitely needs to watch the monsterverse movies before this comes out. I would also STRONGLY suggest watching Monarch: Legacy of Monsters; it does a MUCH better job than the films explaining the history in-universe than any of the films.

Some are fantastic, some are sad, some are goofy, but they're all a fun time! Well, except the first one, but that one is highly regarded for a reason.

The only real issue I have with this is the retconning that Kong was ALWAYS as big as he was, or that he was supposed to be. It clear that they are introducing an entire species of Kaiju sized apes in this movie. Kong was large yes, but not Godzilla sized.

I guess if you wanted the full context for both Kong and Godzilla, you can also check out the original movies in both franchises; the 1933 King Kong and the 1954 Gojira, then check out 1998 Godzilla and 2005 King Kong before then getting into the Monsterverse, I reckon that'll be enough to flesh out the context and legacy of both characters in cinema history (some have mentioned the 1976 King Kong, but as entertaining as that movie is, there's nothing there that the other two versions haven't also done and done better). I guess the only issue is that Godzilla has a massive, half century long franchise behind him that's gone in all different kinds of directions in over 30 movies that aren't entirely embraced by the original 1954 film, and the character's identity in the current day is as much influenced by the later showa, heisei and millennium era of Japanese Toho films (not to mention the current era which only has two movies so far, Shin and Minus One) as the original, if not more so. Perhaps you could also add one film from each era of Toho films to that watch list to get a broader scope of Godzilla's range as a cinematic character. Not necessary for Kong as it really is just the 1933, 1976 and 2005 films that hold that legacy, the handful of sequels and spin offs don't really mean much, other than perhaps Toho's King Kong vs Godzilla from 1962, the first of their movies together, probably be a good, fun, extra schlocky one to add to the list too! There's only so many movies that you guys have time to watch though, so you gotta make tough choices that not everyone is going to agree with because we don't have to deal with all the things you have going on in your lives, much of which is a higher priority than reacting to movies on KZbin! I'm just happy the you're going back to any of these older Godzilla and Kong movies at all (especially 2005 Kong, very underrated and underexposed these days), so I'm looking forward to whatever you guys have in store!
