The reason why some men associate skincare with “gayness” is because in a mindset with toxic masculinity, nurturing and taking care of anything (even yourself) is seen as feminine. It’s really sad that so many men feel this way, but I am noticing positive shifts towards more men embracing the nurturing parts of themselves.

"Feminine" washes are basically just gentler body washes with a lower pH. So they're really no worse than washing your face with a gentle body wash, and probably better than most facial cleansers people use. And thank you for talking about straight men taking care of themselves. Self-care is genderless, skin problems are genderless, and yes, most women appreciate men who are well-groomed, so it's a win-win.

My skin is sensitive, so much that cerave products sadly sting, as well as every hydrating line including neutrogena or la Roche posay. well I found that the feminine wash I use is the only thing that do not dry out my skin. It has ph of around 4.5, is hypoallergenic and made for sensitive skin. No SLS-s inside! No dryness no irritation after use. This and being fast with applying moisturiser eliminated dry nasty patches around my lips. I know it just agrees with my skin. I use occasionally when my scalp gets dry and it also works. But I know it's important to read INCI and this is how I found that, by recommendation, examining the ingredient list and trying out. There are many products which should not be used at all! All love,

Hi, a dermatologist here. While not really designed for this purpose Intimate washes are actually alright to use on your face for a couple of reasons: they're slightly acidic (usually they add lactic acid), usually are formulated with mild surfactants and fragrance free. Glands on your vulva produce sebaceous discharge commonly known as smegma so an intimate wash is designed with sebum in mind. And if something is mild enough for your vagina it's definitely is mild enough for your face. Not a hack per se but definitely an option when you're all out of face wash.

Metrosexual men are definitely my type.
@lethfuil4 жыл бұрын
Not quite. "Metrosexuell" (although I really hated when they labeled people that way, just because of the way they liked to do some things) was for men who'd spend extended/excessive time/effort/money for their skin, hair, nails and cloths. But, although KZbin and Instagram made us believe that this is a normal routine, it actually isn't. For most people (that's what's called normal) it's normal to have a good hygiene and trying not to look like shit. (Wash yourself, hair, face, body, moisturise if needed, cut your nails, wear clean cloth and maybe sometimes put on a little bit of makeup. Done.) But, that MIGHT honestly depend on were you live.... For example, I've been to America (USA) a couple of times and in some regions it's really.... interesting. It's like one third of the population is dirty af, fat, toothless and so on, one this is wearing so much parfum it's breathtaking and so much makeup that they look like their face could fall of if they'd jump with enough force. The last third is what I'd recon normal...

Pharmacist here: The oral contraceptives don’t increase your sensitivity to the sun, however other medications we use orally (doxycycline, minocycline, etc) and topically (benzoyl peroxide, etc) to treat acne definitely can. It’s something we always remind our patients about and we encourage the use of daily sunscreen to help protect their skin.
@Frosy19904 жыл бұрын
Actually some do. Seasonale will increase your sensitivity to the sun the pill comes with a warning label to limit exposure to the sun. I don;t know the ingredient that makes skin sensitive. The comment about spending time together when doing skincare is so true. When my husband and I started doing skincare together, I actually primarily did it for him, like he'd wash his face himself obviously but like I'd massage his face with serums for him and I'd apply his moisturizer and he always felt so happy and giddy when I'd do that. Now he does his own skincare, but we still do it together. Every evening that's like the last thing we do before we both crawl into bed together and it makes us feel close. Plus his face is softer now so if I didn't kiss his face enough already before I do now haha.

I am a beauty professional and I love both you and your brother for breaking down misleading beauty info on the internet! The only note I would have is about the water thing...Our skin in the largest organ of our body and it needs hydration to function properly. Most of us don't drink nearly enough water (guilty!) and are walking around extremely dehydrated on a cellular level. To compensate for that, our skin can start to overproduce oil in an attempt to hydrate itself and create elasticity, especially in those who tend to be more oily in general. So drinking more water actually can help clear up the skin.

Plus (hypothetically) the more water you drink the more you pee, meaning more toxins are flushed out of your body. And since what you eat/drink definitely affects how your skin behaves, it’s probable this is the impact drinking a lot of water has. But still if accurate this is just lazy and it’s like putting a bandaid on a broken finger
@lilliematthews79224 жыл бұрын
Floor Platel I get easily dehydrated if I don’t make sure to drink several glasses of water a day (along with plenty of salt so I will retain it). When the skin on my face gets dehydrated, it gets dry and flaky and starts producing a bunch of oil to compensate, which also causes acne breakouts. So for me, how much water I’ve been drinking is actually one of the biggest factors to the health of my skin.
@lethfuil4 жыл бұрын
@@lilliematthews7922 .....Salt is dehydrating your cells. You don't retain water by taking it together with "plenty of salt"... Just try to keep the salt level low doesn't matter that you pee a bit more than.
@lilliematthews79224 жыл бұрын
Leth Fuil I’ve found from my experience that the salt is important. I also get dizzy when dehydrated, sometimes to the point where I’ve temporarily lost all vision, so figuring out how to stay hydrated was pretty important. I may be unusual in how my body reacts to things, but I’ve discovered that if I’m getting dizzy, drinking water and eating salty snacks will stop the dizziness, but if I don’t eat the salty snacks I will just get increasingly dizzy, no matter how much water I drink. Once I got things under control I realized that it was helping clear up my skin as well, which was a nice bonus.

@@carnuatus I think they’re referring to the salt water, because they said “swimming”, not tanning. I can’t be bothered to search up if it is evidence-based, but at least anecdotally a lot of people find salt water helps their acne, and there’s no harm to it, other than perhaps drying out your skin if you aren’t moisturising, but not moisturising can cause dryness in itself, not just in relation to salt water.

I agree with you guys. I don't know why men take care of themselves is gay. My husband and I literally wrestle each other whenever I try to put chapstick on his lips. He will only let me put some of my skincare on him if his face is dry af, and even so only two products max. He told me he doesn't want me to emasculate him, and I just was like HUH 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

Esther Knight wow what fragile masculinity. Hopefully he can get over that and realize that hygiene has nothing to do with masculinity or femininity and that nothing in this world can emasculate a truly confident masculine man

I was so impressed and happy about how much my current, longterm bf looked after his skin and actually gave me better advice for my own routine! He has eczema and I have really dry skin and had a really bad episode last year with dry patching. Bless him for telling me to go see my doctor and get some advice. I can't believe there is an idea that doing skincare is affeminite like wtf

My mom still goes to the tanning salon to “dry out” her zits. She’s done that for over 20 years and she looks much older than she should........

Am I the only who tries to explain to my mother how damaging sun is to our skin, but she keeps forcing me to sunbathe until my skin manages to develop some color... some.. after 20 days of constant sunbathing and/or solar tanning. Because I am very pale and she says that darker skin is prettier than pale.. the worst thing is that I am 21 and should decide whether I want this or not by myself.. am i overreacting or is she actually right?
@vicdemontigny68534 жыл бұрын
BelBel Cx she is probably worried for people judging your skin color if you are very very pale. My mom does that too, she doesn’t believe anything if it’s from the internet. Try to talk to her about your disagreement, and explain your view on it. She’ll understand! Plus, you should take decisions by yourself at that age. 🙂

I feel like the drinking water thing is more relevant to ppl with dry skin, i have EXTREMELY dry skin, irritated very easily, eczema all that good stuff. And when I drink lots of water I notice a positive change. More glowy, less dry patches and as a result less hyperpigmentation. (I have to drink a lot of water tho). I agree that this probably wouldn't help as much if you are dealing with something like acne. But it can be really helpful for certain skin types.
