I've always considered this film to be about Woody realising that for him, Andy was his one and only kid. He loved him so much and they were best friends his entire life, and moving on to another child just wasn't an option. Even if Bonnie played with him I think Woody would still feel different because he can't just replace someone as special as Andy was to him. So this was like a nice move on for Woody. He doesn't need another kid because he already had the best one.

And if you think about it, Woody in the 3rd movie, when he wrote that sticky note for them to be donated than be put into the attic, that was more of a thing he did for all of his friends rather than himself. I did enjoy this movie, but two things I liked is how a toy doesn't have to have that one purpose to be played with. It gives them a sense of freedom for themselves and choose if they want to be played with or not. The second thing I liked, is mostly how in every movie, Woody's friends always overreacted and never listen to him. Even with everything they do with eachother, they just don't stick together and part away only to come back again. I'm glad that he's free from them tbh.

I think one of the things that you guys missed was the concept of a lost toy. For three movies we were told that being a lost toy was the worst thing in the world. This movie was showing that's not true. There's life and happiness beyond being with a kid for toys.

@@whitenoisereacts sorry i gotta disagree with that. Being a lost Toy is scary for a toy with a home. @@kay-jay1581 I definitely agree with that. I think it also has an impact on kids. I think that it inherently kind of makes kids feel like it’s not the end of the world if they lose a toy- even though, of course it is traumatic as a kid to lose that one special toy, seeing a fictional story that focuses on Toys finding meaning beyond having a home and a kid will maybe change there perspective on it and they feel like they can move on because of that. Obviously I’m not saying that this makes them think there toys are alive, but as a young child with a rampant imagination I think it does really kind of serve that purpose, as well as a great wrap up for all of our long time favorite characters.

I like to see toy story as a whole as woodys lifecycle from figurative child to post adult. The first movie is woody at his most insecure and childish with his jealousy of buzz and doubts of being replaced. Only to get over those feelings and comprise at the end. The second movie is a teenage crisis movie of what he expects of his future especially considering his still lingering doubts of separation with Andy as a proverbial sunset of change, while also confronting the possibility of proverbial immortality in a museum. By the end of the movie he realizes the reality of his circumstances and chooses to meet the sunset of life head on. The third movie is the adult stage where he is at the sunset of change and his complete acceptance of his new fate. But the fourth movie is a post adult stage of life. We see woody in an unideal state but unlike his younger self who was jealous of competition or his teenage self who was insecure about his role as a toy woody has moved passed these worries. It’s both a good and bad thing because while it’s good that he left his youthful worries behind and going beyond the call of duty of a typical toy for Bonnie’s well-being, it’s also bad because we see that duty be a literal chain wrapped around him especially when he talks with forky and says Andy’s name over bonnie showing that even though he is Bonnie’s toy his heart is still anchored to andy. These circumstances mash well when contrasted with Bo and Gabby. The former is a lost toy who found new purpose in life beyond her original role while the latter was a discarded toy who only wants to perform her duty as a toy to her ideal kid. By reconnecting with the former and eventually helping out the latter woody is able to complete his journey from paranoid toy with control issues to a lost toy with new purpose to help other toys find they own kids. Finding a new role to help like how an old athlete can become a great coach for younger athletes.

The reason Bo Peep was cut from Toy Story 3 aside from appearing in the video intro, was that she would definitively not survive the incinerator scene with her being a porcelaine doll. For me I was fine with Bo Peep not being in TS3 despite missing her because she would have gotten in the way of Woody staying with Andy when he was going to college. Since he is so much in love with her, it would have been either the delemma of having to chose between Bo or Andy or that he'd abandon Andy for her. With this film, I feel sorry for Woody not to be played by Bonnie (I don't blame her like so many others, I mean preschool kids usually go from one interest to another, and she didn't have the same sentimantal attachment as Andy did with Woody, who was either the toy of Andy's dad or mom, the former possiby dead as we don't see him or even getting mentioned once) but at the same time happy that he is reunited with Bo, so I'm kinda split with the movie. It gives me a bittersweet feeling at the end.

People look at this as an unnecessary conclusion, but considering Bo Peep wasn't in three and Woody was always about Andy and the other toys over himself, I see this as a coda (or epilogue) to the conclusion. I enjoyed this movie, I will always prefer the 3rd one’s ending and more so consider this one an alternative ending personally. I think it was done well and I like the story! Bo being this badass toy while Woody is just fumbling about is great 😂 I’m about to ramble so if you want to read it go ahead if not ignore me 😅 I can get why people didn’t like this movie, it does go against what they’ve been saying for 3 movies, no matter what you stick with your kid. However, now I’m older I don’t like that motto really because these toys have feelings and wants. I mean we’ve seen so many times how they express their emotions especially when upset. Like in the first movie when Buzz first lost his purpose, he didn’t know he was a toy but when he realized it broke him and made his mind loopy for a good bit. Or in the second one when Jessie was was hurt so badly by her kid she didn’t ever want another kid again in fear they’d abandon her too. Or the third one with Lotso, the amount of anger he held towards those with kids because his replaced him was huge! He literally tried killing them so they couldn’t go back to Andy! They have the same amount of emotions as we do. The idea that Woody doesn’t want to be left in the closet even for a kid isn’t outlandish. He went from being the favorite to left alone while watching his friends get played with, no one would want that. I like that he gets to choose his fate like Bo did. They gets the satisfaction of being playing with while still being free to do what they want. Best of both worlds.

I think this one is the best of the four films because it perfectly captures what post parental breakdown is about for someone who had been lucky enough to even have a child. One minute you have a kid, the next minute they leave the house and grow up. In a weird way, it's a complete opposite to the Shinning where Jack Nicholson's character would've wanted his old life back too much, whilst he was still a parent. In the case of Toy Story 4, Woody wouldn't have wanted his old life back in anyway shape or form, and he would've wanted to stick to his guns of being the perfect toy for a child, when Bonnie stopped playing with him, setting himself up for a bipolar depression of some kind. But thanks to this movie happening, instead of collecting dust in Bonnie's closet, he made a right choice in his own life, evaluating who he is as a person and doing what he would've done best in the first two Toy Story films, convince toys to be who they are.

Good commentary and it really got me thinking about the screenplay, how it may have been written and/or it's overall theme. One of the things I think this film does well that doesn't get noticed is that it is a great exercise in wants vs needs for a character arc. Woody *wants* his old position as the favorite toy in charge that he had with Andy but with his new kid Bonnie. He *needs* to realize that Bonnie doesn't see him that way, in fact almost no other kids he comes in contact with anymore sees him the way Andy saw him and it's time for him to close that chapter of his 'life' and open a new one where he can help other toys foster that same relationship that made it all worthwhile for him. Loyalty, as lauded as it is, can be a double edged sword. You don't owe loyalty to someone who doesn't appreciate what you have to offer (or in Bonnies case never truly did). the film also does a great job of showing that woody is actually quite unhappy watching everyone get played with except for him and his little interlude with Buzz about the voice in his head makes it clear he is staying out of a sense of duty/loyalty/his conscience. Yeah he's a toy but that's not good for his or anybodies mental health. And while Woody's loyalty to Bonnie is admirable (especially to Bo), transferring it to abandoned, lost or childless toys isn't a blemish on his character or the story, its just him moving on and realizing that even if bonnie doesn't need him there are other kids and toys who do. I get the feeling that's why Bo doesn't really consider coming back. Ahe appreciates Woodys loyalty but shes not about to go back to a situation where she knows she will eventually be hurt when she really doesn't have to. We never find out what her wants and needs are but I wouldn't be surprised if she and Woody are going through the same emotions and just making different choices because they're foils. I feel like when watching the movie, most of us identify with the human characters (duh) so it feels like a childhood constant is leaving us and that's really uncomfortable and manifest as a lack of loyalty, but if we identify more with the toys, it doesn't feel quite as bad, in fact it feels like a normal part of life. Anyway I really like character development, theming and story structure, can you tell?

I mean, look, it only makes sense that they cover the whole "lost toy" concept, they've covered what seems like everything else. Like Buzz and other OG toys, I wished they played a bigger role. But apart from that, I still love the 4th one. Finding a new role to help like how an old athlete can become a great coach for younger athletes.

I’ve imagined that once the movie ended, Andy came back from college to get his toys, and then started panicking because his favorite toy was lost, and then Bonnie felt absolutely horrible because she was the one who lost it, and they all just started freaking out.

There was some credit scenes that were good, like what happened after. Also, if you go to the Pixar logo at the end of the credits, Duke Kaboom replaces the lamp. Finally, the Tin Soldier that opened the door at the club where they meet Duke Kaboom is a Pixar cameo. He was the main character in one of Pixar's first ever short films.

The song "You've Got a Friend in Me" was the theme song of the movie Parenthood (1989) long before Toy Story existed. Parenthood is a good movie about being a parent of various ages of children from toddlers to adults. Great film with a lot of good actors including Steve Martin, Mary Steenburgen (Clara in Back to the Future Part III), Jason Robarts (Brooks in Shawshank Redemption), Rick Moranis (Honey, I Shrunk the Kids), and a VERY young Keanu Reeves. And it was directed by Ron Howard who directed Apollo 13! Great film to watch if ever you have the time.

So the reason why they made a 4th one is not because they were bought by Disney. Pixar's been owned by Disney for almost as long as Pixar has existed. The reason was because John Lasseter, director of the first two, just decided he wanted to do a 4th one. And since he pretty much ran both Disney and Pixar at the time, who could say no to him? It's like George Lucas wanting to make the prequels, he owned the company and has a shit ton of money, so it's not like he needed approval from anyone.

Also, as for possible anime reactions, there is two in particular that I think you guys gonna like it: - Mob Psycho 100 (same creator of One Punch Man and it's the same studio that did My Hero Academia) highly recommended to watch the english dub version because it's really fun to watch. - Re:Creators (is an original anime from 2017, considerate one of the best animes of that year). Same director of Fate Zero, characters and story made by the author of Black Lagoon and the same composer of Attack on Titan, Seven Deadly Sins and Kill La Kill. It's only 22 episodes and it's well known by it's concept: What would happend if your own character from a anime or game end up in the real world? What would be his reaction to discover that he is a character from a story made by someone? What consequences the stuff from fiction would effect reality?

Thanks for reacting. This is a great movie but there are a number of problems that I just have a hard time ignoring. I feel it just ignores a lot of the characteristics of the toys that had been strongly established in the previous films. The motivations for Woody to leave Bonnie and his friends behind are very shallow and unrealistic for him. In the previous films Woody started off as a prideful and jealous toy that grew into accepting that a child's happiness is more important than his status as a toy. It was further solidified in Toy Story 2. Woody: "Buzz I *have* to go... This is my only Chance." Buzz: "To do what Woody? Watch kids from behind glass and never be loved again? Some life..." Woody: You're right, Prospector. I can't stop Andy from growing up... But I wouldn't miss it for the world." Considering how much the character grows and learns, it just makes little sense to me that Woody's motivation for leaving is "Bonnie doesn't play with me enough" (even though she does play with him in at least one scene). And I disliked that the reason Woody gave Bo for trying to rescue Forky was "Because it's all have left to do" as if he was never sure. As if it's some kind of chore to love a kid. Overall I don't mind if Woody decides to leave, but the problem for me is that there is very little context and basis for him to do so. It would be different if the development what led to that was more clear or took more time and pondering for Woody, but it is literally something he kind of decided out of the blue, seemingly with very little development. It's different for Bo because she has had several years of experience and growth and learning that have led her to change and view the world differently so it makes sense for her to be the way she is. But Woody simply not being played with enough makes him seem like he's never grown or leaned anything from his experiences in the previous films. And then there's the issue with Buzz in this movie. I don't like that they made him into some kind of buffoon... He turns on his voice button out of what seems like carelessness and ignorance. Very unlike Buzz considering he is established as being very careful, quick-thinking and intelligent in the previous films. Why would he not know or understand Woody's talk about inner voices? Why would he be so clueless and carless as to turn on his voice in front of the family. They painted him as being a stooge. And to go further, Buzz is not willing to join Woody in rescuing Forky. Buzz is a toy but he is still a space ranger in spirit and it is established in the previous films that he is as heroic and determined to help toys in need at all costs as Woody. Yet in this film he is willing to just ditch Forky or ask his "inner voice". Very unlike him. And it just doesn't make sense to me that the toys simply let Woody leave without ever really knowing any motivations other than his lover for Bo. In previous films they would have protested. In Toy Story 3, Andy says that Woody doesn't give up on you. And sure he did not give up on Forky, but why did he give up on Bonnie. He wasn't played with enough? Then what was the point of the lessons he learned in the first film? He loves Bo? Sure but I don't see that as a big enough motivation to leave a kid. If that's true than why didn't he just go with Prospector and the Round Up gang to the museum? It's basically the same thing as deciding to be a lost toy with Bo. I enjoy Toy Story 4. Everything else is great. The plot, the new characters, etc. And I include it when I go on a Toy Story binge. Buy it's just these discrepancies in the characterization and continuity errors that are hard to ignore But to each their own Thank you for reading. I enjoy your videos.

Is everything sentient? “The Brave Little Toaster” tread that ground 30 years ago. Now we know why Pixar made this: petty revenge. Remake the movie John Lassiter got fired from Disney for back in the 80s, but better because no kid is going to be nostalgic for a toaster, vacuum cleaner and other appliances.

It is a little weird it's appliances yes but I've seen some reactors be surprised by the animation and story telling from that movie. This is a good movie, but I don’t really like it because of the *Implications* . Like, at the end of 3 all the toys are happy; they’re a family, they’ve found a new child to watch grow and they even have a connection to their friends at the daycare. But this one… kinda leaves it on a note that no matter what, toys are gonna be discarded and unloved in the end so the only possible path to happiness/survival is for them all to run away like Woody does, which is not feasible. Also, the “family” splits apart and Bonnie kinda spits in the face of her promise to Andy lol.

@@fredericksaxton9782 I know this is more realistic, but that’s part of the problem with the movie for me. It forces us, the audience, to confront the fact that being a toy SUCKS, no matter what, and that there’s absolutely no way they could ever be happy in the long run unless they run away. It ruins the joyful reality, or perhaps fantasy is more accurate, that we had at the end of Toy Story 3, where it seemed Woody and co. would be loved and cared for as they deserved to be for years to come 😅
