im black but idk if this is completely accurate bc there isn’t too much info but afaik back in the day masc black women in the work force would work jobs that predominantly black men were working n so theyd be described as studs and that black mascs would call themselves studs since butch was associated with whiteness at the time. not 100% on this tho
