This era will never see someone as great as Jordan. Players are manufactured in a league that is significantly different. Toughness is a thing of the past. Excuses are tolerated more than they ever have. Referees are allowing basketball skill mediocrity with flops, travels, double dribbles and carrying. And the mentality of players have completely changed. To me it screams weakness. The Goat was carved out of steel. He faced aggression and violence on the court. The refs called everything very tightly. Basketball players in his day came to compete plain and simple. They played 82 games injured and tired. They also were payed significantly less. To them it was about the love of the game and pride. These are the factors that created "The Goat."

Again, the counter argument I always make when it comes to the "more talented era" is to point out the top ten leaders on the all time blocks, steals and assists lists. All three are mostly players that played during the 90's. That is the end of that argument right there. Who set the standard and the bar that players chase? The 90's.

Let's say someone like KD shows up to my local park to play basketball one night, dominates everyone easily, then never shows up again. I spend hours and hours over the next few nights, after curfew when no one else is around, practicing layups and grabbing my own rebounds. Also got to play a minimum length of time (not just in the prime) to see how one adjusts and grows their game (and corrects deficiencies in their game). What one does with their platform (and how they do it) matters more than longevity to me.

I hope to see somebody as good or better than Jordan some day. I was born in the early 90s so i couldn't appreciate what he was doing at the time. Kobe was my MJ, i wanted him to become the GOAT but there came a point where i accepted that he wasn't it. Same with LBJ, i actually liked him a lot but i accepted that he's fallen short. Some fans just get too attached to players. Every player retires and a new one will take his place. In my lifetime I'm sure we'll see an even bigger freak than Jordan

And keep in mind that this is a rehabbing pitcher. He is different. He's making history all over the place. Even if you aren't into MLB, you have to watch what this guy is doing. It'll never happen again.

Personally I think Mikan deserves more credit, though I get that the NBA wants to bury him. Not only did Mikan prove the concept of the big (the Curry argument), he also caused rule changes (goaltending, first lane widening, and reportedly the shot clock) like Wilt. Then the ring path; Rookie Season, Mikan joins the Chicago Gears and wins a ring. Then because of league/business politics the Gears disband and Mikan is available in a dispersal draft. The Lakers are convinced to enter basketball on the guarantee of Mikan, so with a brand new roster in his second year Mikan wins Ring number two. The Lakers then jump to the admittedly weaker (and segregated) BAA, where obviously they win; along the way winning the World Basketball Tournament over the New York Rens, who were not only the best black basketball team but arguably the best team outright. Then the merger and Mikan wins the first NBA ring. After four in a row, Mikan decides to be considerate and like Jordan take a gap year. Before Mikan 3peats from 52-54 then retires. He comes back for half a season in 56 (his Wizard year(s) you might say) before returning to retirement. Oh, and 7-0 in the finals… obviously. C’mon If I’m gonna imply the Jordan comparison I can’t have that hole. In short: better finals record than Jordan (in less time if that’s important), more impactful rule changes than Wilt (shot clock definitely improved the watchability of games), and changed the style of game like Curry. I’m just sayin’…

I see what you're saying about how long someone plays, 22 seasons 7 rings vs 12 seasons 6 rings! The problem is this is the kinda the opposite of the LeBron vs Jordan "debate"! We look at Jordan as being far greater because he has 2 more titles, 9 more scoring titles, 11 more box metrics, 2nd fastest to 10,000, 20,000 and 30,000 pts, more all defensive team selection, better at the eye test and so on! The problem with the less time but still 1 less ring is the fact that this player still has one less ring. We don't know if they would have ever won another SB?? If they would have stayed competitive throughout the next 9-10 years. How many accolades does this player have compared to the 7 time SB champion? How were they in the eye test? How developed was the team the 6 time SB champion was on? Terry Bradshaw, 4 time SB champion but I have never heard anyone put his 4 SBs on the same level as Montana's and I've never heard him in any goat debate or even seen much of him inside the greatest top 10 quarterbacks of all time, yet he has the second most super bowls for quarterbacks in NFL history. Bradshaw wasn't that good of a quarterback he just had an excellent Steelers roster around him. Brady's longevity and LeBron's aren't the same thing. Brady's longevity counts because he does have the most rings, which is why we look at LeBron in the opposite Way. Brady's longevity should never be knocked because in 2020 he could have arguably had his greatest season at 43 years old. Only the 2007 season is really comparable. Another reason I think the NFL has gotten softer because of 43-year-old. Tom Brady isn't better than the 33-year-old Tom Brady. But there's so many things to look at it's not just because someone has almost as many rings as another player. How do they get them?? How did they perform?? Where they clutch like Tom Brady?? Umm getting swept by the Spurs WAS an issue bc of all the credit he got for beating bum teams to get there AND to shit the bed ONCE THERE. They call out Jordan for getting swept early, but if the Cavs were in the west, they would have had a match with guess who? The Spurs in the first round and swept in the first round. THE DIFFERENCE is Jordan lit it up and went down fighting while LeBron was trash in his sweep and laid down for them start to finish.

If LeBron's contemporaries are closer to him than they were to Jordan, that is an indictment on his level of development as a player. He didn't rise above them in talent, skill, fundamentals, or winning. That is a Lebron problem. Jordan wasn't Jordan coming out of college. He became Jordan. He transcended the league and his contemporaries.
